I was wondering, when the AI is pulling the peloton, at what effort do they go.
The reason I want to know this is because I often find myself either chasing alone or dropping when I put a rider on relay.
I figured it should be something like this:
pre 1/2 stage: 40
1/2 till 1/3: 50
after 1/3: 60
Is this even right at all?
Other situations I'm curious about:
Chasing a breakaway that's too big or strong at the start of the race,
Chasing a breakaway at the very end of the race,
Relay in the breakaway itself.
What I found to work for me, is approximately what you've posted: in the early parts of the stage, in the peloton, 35~41. Later 50, then 65 and in the closing stages of the stage, with less than 85 or a bad rider I don't even enter the relaying "group". As for chasing a break in the start of the race, I usually don't take part, since the AI does all the job (and I'm usually not that much interested in bringing them back ). But if it's in my interest that a big or strong break does not go away, and the AI is fine with that, then I set 3 or 4 riders relaying at 85, usually brings the break back quite quickly. Lastly, for relaying in the breakaway: I usually go with 50 (which was the "default" effort pre-PCM11), and sometimes up to 65 or 70 when the break is speeding up in the last 1/4 or so of the race. But it also depends on the situation, f.e. if my rider is superior than all the others in the break in climbing, and it's a mountainous stage, I put him in 35 or 40 in the climbs so that he doesn't work alone on the front and doesn't drop his breakaway mates too early.
