Hi guys. I wonder if you are working, or are intending to be working on a 2013 DB? I do not believe that I am the only one, looking forward to be playing the 2013 season?
Well, yes, I'm looking forward, but this was written on PCMdaily's weekly news(at the front page)
PCM.Daily DB 2013
With 2013 looming closer and closer, it's time to begin working on our 2013 DB. With the help of zmiguel91, most of the 2013 palmares has been finished and what remains is to replace name of the riders and the races into ID's that PCM can recognise. From stats point of view, work has also begun here and if you wish to help with any Continental teams, please contact me via PM. Meanwhile, Luigi will slowly begin updating transfers, adding new riders etc. We'll keep you updated on the progress.
- Some changes on the Continental teams, I think there are some Continental teams too weak to be in the DB, and it could be interesting to have teams from other parts of the globe in a cycling world more and more global, with some new races providing new interests. Other suggestion is to create for each league (Europe, Asia-Pacific, America and Africa), a Continental team with the best riders of the teams that aren't on the DB, or that run in Elite-2 teams but that can be very good against other when they appear on their selections (Colombian and Venezuelan riders, notably) With some more countries, it could really add a new interest, and also allow the player to kno more names that made their own career in their countries and, sometimes, have the chance to come to the top teams;
- Some more races, in order to provide a good balance of the schedule between Continents;
- Discuss the application of the correct sanction times to the suspended riders;
- Analysis of the free agents: I have been looking with CQ Ranking and others for alot of free agents, and I found a lot of retired riders, maybe it's time for a major update.
Concerning the teams list, apart from the World Tour and ContinentalPro, I suggest the following Continental team, as they are listed now on CQ Ranking, based on the abilities of their riders (it hasn't any interest to have weak and local teams on a DB, it isn't a PPDB Giant):
Thanks a bunch for the suggestions! The suggestions will be discussed further, but here are my own opinions:

Well, firstly, what needs to be clear is that the PCMDaily DB is, as you said, not a PPDB or any other Giant DB, and that the team/races focus on the DB is Western Europe and British/American, since those (specially the latter) are where a lot of members from the site come, because it's an English speaking site. Besides, having a realistic teams vs races relation is one of the priorities; a team will hardly be added if, from the races it took part irl, only 1 or 2 are in the DB.
I do sort of agree that some teams are quite weak, but they usually fit the DB focus. As for the teams turning the DB into a more global thing, well, obviously we wouldn't be able to add a bunch of teams from all regions, meaning that only a couple of them would make it:
I'll take as an example Brazilian's team Funvic-Pindamonhangaba, 2nd on the UCI America Tour team ranking last year and which you even mentioned in your list. While they'd give a more global aspect to the DB, it wouldn't really be fun to play with them since, in real life, they only took part in 2 races that are in the DB (Tour de San Luis and Volta a Portugal), so you'd be playing in a bunch of races (mostly European) that wouldn't be realistic. Ok, in this case a couple more of Brazilian and South American races could be added - but then it wouldn't be realistic to have in game only 1 or 2 teams that took part in these races in real life, so that would require more teams, which would require more races - it's a vicious circle, which would only be realistic when you have a bunch of races and a bunch of teams from the same place. And to do that for all areas of the world, we'd need to be a big Giant DB
Other suggestion is to create for each league (Europe, Asia-Pacific, America and Africa), a Continental team with the best riders of the teams that aren't on the DB, or that run in Elite-2 teams but that can be very good against other when they appear on their selections (Colombian and Venezuelan riders, notably) With some more countries, it could really add a new interest, and also allow the player to kno more names that made their own career in their countries and, sometimes, have the chance to come to the top teams;
Well, I've talked above about adding "global" teams isolated from their race calendar/other teams, which ends up in non-realism and thus not really fun. I do agree though that it might be a good idea to add some of these riders as free agents, that could be considered;
- Some more races, in order to provide a good balance of the schedule between Continents;
More races will be added in the V1, but not necessarily "globally". As I said, adding only a couple of teams and races from some places is not preferable;
- Discuss the application of the correct sanction times to the suspended riders;
I'm not sure what you mean here. The sanction times have been updated for the 2013 DB. (not sure if you've already looked at the .cdb file, but if not, then perhaps we've already done what you're suggesting here)
- Analysis of the free agents: I have been looking with CQ Ranking and others for alot of free agents, and I found a lot of retired riders, maybe it's time for a major update.
Concerning the retired riders, every year when the rosters are updated the riders listed as "retires" in CQ Ranking transfers overview are deleted from the DB. But there is room for errors, since for example riders that are riding for Elite-2 teams and are in the DB can retire but they won't appear in the overview. We can't go through every free agent individually to check if they are one of this cases, so it'd be much appreciated if you could name some of these riders that have retired but are still in the DB
Concerning the teams list, apart from the World Tour and ContinentalPro, I suggest the following Continental team, as they are listed now on CQ Ranking, based on the abilities of their riders (it hasn't any interest to have weak and local teams on a DB, it isn't a PPDB Giant):
I'm not sure if you've used the current CQ ranking for the list, but if yes, I should note you that the current ranking (which consider teams with their transfers/2013 rosters) is not much trustable for reference, because the UCI haven't yet published the Continental teams and their rosters so some teams in CQ Ranking are lacking riders. For example, I don't think that Burgos BH will ride the 2013 season with 4 riders only Same with Abus - Nutrixxion, which was actually quite good in 2012 (74th in CQ Ranking), and takes part in a bunch of races in the DB. But thanks for the list and the suggestions, as I said here's my opinion on them but we'll be looking further into it. And if you have any other suggestions, don't hesitate in voicing them as well
