question about MO and HIL
aquilotti1
ok so what does this two attributes REALLY mean? is it the percentage of elevation changes like if its more than 5% its considered mountain and anything less is hills? I'm confused because on this Hill stage the hills looked very steep and my hil rider was struggling when other riders with higher mountain were doing way better even if the stage is still considered a hill stage (orange hills not red mountain) please help, thanks.

Each stage of the game has a value called "gene_f_mountain" (explained below). Until PCM11 it was set manually by the person editing the DB (and you could see it in the DB), but in PCM12 it's automatically added into the game (thus you can only see it opening the stage info with Stage Viewer/Editor).

gene_f_mountain: Allows you to define which attribute (hill or mountain) is used by the game's AI
when calculating effort (for all climbs of the stage, regardless of length, slope, etc).
At 0 (or close to 0) it is the "hill" attribute; at 1 or close to 1 it is the "mountain" attribute.

In the database every stage has a definition of what percentage of the mountain stat counts for all climbs on that stage. If it is rated "0" then 100% of each rider's ability will be determined by their hill stat. If it is rated "1" then 100% will be determined by the mountain stat. 0.5 will be 50% of each stat, etc, etc. So really it depends on what stage you were using.

Certainly that was the way it worked in PCM11 and earlier, and I'm fairly sure that this is how it still works.

EDIT: Zabel'd!

ok thanks guys. I wish the creators of the game found a better way to make this more clear instead of going through all that work

Can't see how exactly the current method is "going through all that work". A bad thing about it is that it rates all climbs in a stage equally (e.g. a mountain stage will probably use the MO stat even when climbing hills), but it's hardly complex. A better way to make this, such as ... ?

I think he means it should be made more visible in the game rather than having to search the DB.

Ah, misunderstood it a bit then Pfft And gotta agree with it then. I think it's nice when you go to some stages not really knowing who you should expect to do well, then you keep watching your riders on the climbs to see who is suffering less. But sometimes it can be just too tricky. If you could see in the game an info saying not precisely the number but some 'blurry' idea of it, e.g. dividing it in 3: from 0 to 0,33 you should see in game that the stage is rather "hilly", from ,33 to ,67 is "balanced" and ,67 to 1 is "mountainous" (this besides the stage relief).

A quick question, though:

When does it show hilly and when mountain (in the game), is it at 50% that it changes?

lluuiiggii
Not necessarily. For example, stage 3 of the Tour do Rio by Margh Norway has gene_f_mountain = 0,61 and is classified as "hill".

Where do you see the classification of hill, mountain or plain in the game?

The small box besides the profile/stage name. If it's a green flat thing, it's flat. An orange hilly-like thing, hilly. And a red mountain, mountain.

In this screen, the box between the race name and profile:
