In the near future I would like to start a custom team a write a story about it. I'm going to wait for the final patch to be released and find a suitable database, but I want to get everything right and make sure I know what I'm doing before hand, so I've tried creating a couple test teams.
Being new to the game and that, I would like a little help with database editing and stuff. So basically, can someone run me through the best way, or any good way if there isn't a best one, to create a custom team and make it "clean" (what I mean by that is, for example, getting sponsor name in lower case, etc...)
I want to have HTC as a main sponsor and American Airlines as a co-sponsor. I've noticed that there is already HTC in the database, but that would give me the old 2011 jersey. Should I use that and overright that jersey with mine or should I create a new HTC?
And also, I thought I had found a way to put my team in the UCI ProTour straight away, even though I thought I had read that it wasn't possible, but it didn't work. Is there a way, or would I have to edit a team into the database?
These are my only questions for now, thanks for any answers.
The clean way would be to define the team in the database (before you start a career). If you want to start in the ProTour, then it might be best to take over an existing team and modify it, else you would have too many teams in the ProTour. Another option would be to remove an existing Pro team or put them into the ProConti.
If you create another sponsor called HTC, then there might be two HTC teams in the future, but that is your decision.
My editor does not change the letters you type, so if you want it to be in lower case, just write it that way.
BTW: There are plenty of threads about what table and columns you have to edit. Try the forum search. Can can also ask a specific question but I doubt that somebody will be writing a walk-through for the editors.

I like the idea of putting a team into ProConti, but how would I do that, with your editor, or? And that would also mean I would be stealing riders from other teams without replacing them. Do they get replaced when creating a custom team in career mode, or would it be normal?
And also, I did use the existing HTC in my first test, but after I changed the budget and the goals, the game would crash when I went on the sponsor tab. Is that a common problem, or did I do something wrong?
Don't create a team with the in-game feature, use an editor to edit the normal DB (non-savegame = add the team before you create a career), then you can have everything you want
