Variant in single race mode

While I could probably manage this by some trial and error, I would appreciate if anyone could give a quick explanation of what I have to do to make a GT variant playable in single race mode?

Well, you'd have to update the stages in STA_stage, no other way. You'll find some of the info in the variant .descr files (located in CM_stages/variant), such as stage names and stage filenames. The rest of the "important" things that you need to edit (stage type, relief, distance, time gap, HIL/MO ratio and uphill sprint), you can get by opening the stage info (.cds file) with the Stage Editor/Viewer.
