Riders Favourite Races (& Weather)
ianrussell
I've conducted a search of the forums but no joy so...

Quick question which if any of the below effects do races listed as riders favourites have:

improve a riders morale if they take part
improve a riders performace in these races (if so how?)
are an indication of which races may suit the riders stats

On a similar note what effect does preferred weather have - I'm guessing it improves performance (though I know equipment doesn't so it's not a given!) but how?

Many thanks.

Well definitely not an indication of which races may suit the rider stats, since when the favorite races are not pre-defined they're random (but the rider specialisation will play a role in the random choice, so a cobbled rider has much more chances to have Roubaix in his fav race list than Tirreno - Adriatico, for example). As for the other effects, I don't know if it does anything. I hope that a rider has a small boost when racing his fav race, or that his season program will have more chances of going through that race, but I don't know if this happens.

And on weather, I don't know as well, but I think it has no effect.

Btw, since you asked 'how' it improves rider performances - by giving a boost to his stats, is there other way? The same that happens when you change difficulty (in the harder difficulties, the AI riders have a boost to the stats, for example 102% on hard).

Thanks for the info. Thinking about it if either does anything then a slight boost to stats would make the most sense. The alternative being it boosts morale after having raced a favourite race or perhaps the riders bars decrease slightly slower in a fav race/preferred weather (*think* I remember reading that better fitness supposedly does this though it makes far less sense in terms of fav races) or maybe even their daily form is likely to be higher (though this is totally random as far as I know).

Whie I'm at it:

I hear that riders racing in their own country get a slight boost to their stats - what exactly is this, maybe 1%?

I take it morale also acts as a stat multiplier? If so anyone have an idea of the numbers involved in this (e.g. does "Over the moon" = +3% etc).

Perhaps I should just accept that these things are probably slight boosts and not worry about the details but I'm just curious. If anyone else has any further information on any of this it would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

This has been answered by cyanide, so the answer should be correct. Sadly I almost totally forgot. As far as I remember, the boost would not be for his stats but similar to his daily form. But as I said, I cannot remember if it only applies to races in his own country or with favorite races as well.
Same would be for the morale, it does not affect stats directly.
I think daily form, fitness, morale, race in own country, fav. race, fav. weather and fatigue all are influencing some or all stats directly or indirectly but would it really be good to know the actual formula?

Thanks for the further information.

Yes, good point, perhaps a bit of mystery is a good thing. I would be happy to know if they do indeed have any effect and some sort of scale of the effect as this would give me an idea of how important it would be to, for example, race riders in races in their country of origin etc.

At the moment it seems to be likely that most (possibly all) of these factors have an effect and such factors amount to a marginal gain in performance. I will probably have to be satisfied with that Smile

As far as I know, the fitness, the morale and the race country are the most important, in this order. So for example Nibali should win the Giro more easily when in good form and morale than the TdF just because he is riding in his country. But if he has bad form or bad morale, riding in his own country cannot hide it.

Yes, that makes an awful lot of sense, thanks.
