When i am riding with my leader on own effort at a climb and i protect him with another rider, my leader has the same heartrate then when he rides alone. So is it usefull to protect your leader when he is riding on dot?

To me, the protection is only useful if your leader crashes, or gets a puncture. Then there is someone with him to bring him back.
Protection doesn't mean (as far as I think) that he can ride up a mountain with less effort (on the flat, it's easier to use less energy out of the wind).

Well I've always experienced my leader having a smaller effort when being protected, on all kinds of terrain. Also, in longer stage races, protecting is also good to preserve more green (from my experiences).

From my experience, protection is really useful thing which can help you win races, it saves a lot of energy for your leader. I can say - without protection I would never win Milano San Remo with Bennati, because he wouldn't stay in the front group if he would ride on his own in last kms over Cipressa and Poggio.

Well if you set his own effort at 80 he will always ride with a heart rate equal to an effort of 80. The different is the speed.
If he is alone he suffers more from wind and will not be able to go as fast.
If he is being protected, the guy in front of him is taking a lot of the wind and he will be able to go faster. This will deplete your protector really fast as he would have to go well above 80(if they have same skill) to keep in front of your leader.
What I find weird is when protecting my leader on a climb(leader is just keeping position) is that the guy I use to protect looses energy a lot faster than if he was just keeping position himself. |

I've experienced that to. It seems that the game is programmed in such as way so that the protecting rider will allways use more energy then the one he is protection, no matter what. |

Its normal that he uses more energy because he will take more wind
