I was wondering if somebody could shed some light on the following inconvenience I'm experiencing. As far as I recall this issue has existed for some time, also in previous editions of PCM (at least those with detailed simulation) and I'm wondering if there might be a fix for it, I'd be surprised if no one else experiences this. Even though I couldn't find any reference to it on the forums.
When doing a season I often run a detailed simulation of the less interesting races, the ones I really can't e bothered loosing or winning for that matter. When using detailed simulation after signing new leaders and/or sprinters for the season, there is pretty much always the option to select riders from the previous season. I don't what effect it might have that one of my riders is protecting a rider that isn't even in my team (or in the race for that matter), so I change it back to the proper names most of the time: the inconvenience.
I even had the option to select a rider that hadn't ever been in my team before, apart from the World Championship setup, that I was able to select for 'protecting', 'keep him at the front' and 'lead out in the sprint'. Eventually I solved this by just signing the rider in question, but I can't keep doing so since by now I'd be looking at resigning 40 year old cripples.
Anyhow, how to prevent 'impossible selection options in detailed sim,' any thoughts on the matter would be appreciated. Thanks up front.

I really don't understand the middle part of your post. If you don't care about the result, why do you take the time to use the detailed simulation?
And you sign riders so that a bug does not bug you????? Are you serious?
But anyway:
Did you install the latest patch of the game?
Do you edit your save often? If yes, are you sure that you know what you are doing?
I'll try and clarify, in retrospect it is indeed a lot of text to explain a relative easy problem.
I'm sure many people appreciate the narrative that the detailed simulation offers, even though the race itself can't really be influenced more then when using quick-sim.
I don't know whether my team protecting the rider of a different team does anything at all, ... they don't ride for my own leader however, so yes you're right, I'd say it is a problem.
Regarding the rider, yeah I did sign a rider so that "the bug stopped bugging me." What happened was that after the World Championships (managing the Netherlands) I was able to select riders protecting Maaskant, who at the time rode for Garmin I believe (with me managing Rabobank). Maaskant would appear as a selection option throughout the season, regardless of the number of sprinters/leader/free roles I gave to other riders. Upon signing Maaskant a year later, the problem solved itself.
Right now I'm experiencing the same problem. Valverde left my team the previous season, still I can select riders to be his lead-out, protection or close gaps for him. Signing Maaskant being a Dutch team wasn't much a punishment, resigning a Valverde in decline however will be. So yeah, I am serious, I don't think it that odd to be honest.
I asume that I installed the latest patch, at least the launcher doesn't prompt me to install a new one. Aside from using your editor to adjust the salary of my scouts I haven't changed a thing to my save.
I recall experiencing the same problem in PCM 2010, I gathered this would be somewhat of a generic problem, apparently not. If you have any ideas about where to look for the problem, I'd be much obliged.
