Is the AI sufficient at handling the best lineup for each race, based on the overall team/rider goal?
Example: The main goal for Valverde in my game is la Vuelta. But he gets auto picked for a lot of early races, which has does great in, and with great form. But now his farm is declining (obviously, since the mid season is his rest period), but he was still auto picked for the tour de france. Making me think his fatigue will be all up there by the time of the vuelta.
Question: Is the AI good enough to manager auto picks for each race, and still make the best of the season for each rider, or do you overrule/change it when/if it makes stupid mistakes?
The AI isnt particularly good, no - its much more effective to pick your lineup for all races. If your goal is the Vuelta, you want to avoid racing too much early in the season.
As SN said, the AI isn't smart enough for that. The lineups made by it are usually very bad.
I create my own lineups for every race I enter. For that, I use Lachi's Season Planner, which is great for this.
And btw, you said Valverde going to the TdF will make his fatigue go very high when the Vuelta comes up. Actually, it's a little different: fatigue is only for the training fitness (the fitness schedule). There is also the race days fitness, which is the one that will be affected. After 60 race days, the rider will lose 1 max point for race fitness (the normal is 20), so if he has 70 days f.e. he will get max 15. That would be the problem of riding the TdF (after riding other races in the beginning of the season; if he has 5 race days when the Tour starts, he could get to the vuelta with about 30 days - then it wouldn't be a problem, but according to what you said this isn't the case).
