I am wondering what the best tactic for increasing the pace up a mountain is? I don't mean a mountain finish, but rather a stage has more than one pretty tough climb in them where the first one is some distance before the finish. Something like todays Giro-stage. I would like to try to split the peloton and and maybe then I would see more rider dropping out due to the time limit.
If I have a team with good climbers, should I try to dot them so they hold a somewhat higher pace then the rest of the pack or could I try to have them relay?
Ps: Does the AI actually suffer from losing riders in GTs? I remember one Vuelta where AG2R only had 3 riders left, that must give them some problems? AG2R might not be the best example, but could riders like Contador suffer from only having 2-3 teammates left?
As for increasing the pace, I usually use relay, but then you have to take care of effort bar (if a rider with MO 74 is in 70, then a rider with MO 70 should be with effort near 80), otherwise only your best riders in MO will relay.
As for team mates, the problem is that from the 9 guys Contador, in your example, has, the 3 ones that would stay with him would be the 3 best ones, while sprinters and domestiques would drop out of the time limit. Don't really know what could happen though.
