I've been playing PCM for about 7 seasons now. It is a pretty realistic game in my opinion, except for one thing: the nationality bonus.
I did the Giro last year, with Cataldo being the winner. He is a good climber with 79 mo and 75 hil, but with a recovery of 66...
He won every mountain stage with ease, and participated in almost every mass sprint (for instance finishing fourth against the top sprinters of the world). My GC rider with a recovery of 79, with stronger stamina and resistance, and 77mo and 74hil could by far not keep up with him in the later mountain stages, even with a protective rider helping him. He was minimally fatigued and peaked at the Giro.
Same thing now happens in the Vuelta... I understand that an Italian rider will have more 'power' during a home race, but it seems to be extremely out of proportion.
Does anyone know an easy way to reduce this effect? The only option I can think about is giving all the riders the same nationality (everybody Irish ) in the DB, but I consider that my last resort..
Any help is greatly appreciated! |

i don't know if it is possible to edit the effect of the nationality bonus
however, you may reduce the nationalistic attitude of each rider by editing fkIDnationalism column in dyn_cyclist table
fkIDnationalism value may range from 1 to 3, with 3 beeing very nationalistic |

I think the nationality bonus counts towards the actual race so Italians get a bonus at Italian races. Americans get a bonus at American races.
Thats what I've always thought it was so changing all your teams riders to Irish probably wont solve it.

Thanks for the replies. It's about creating equal opportunities for all riders in any race. So 'home' riders should not have an (extreme) advantage over foreign riders.
I was indeed thinking about changing the nationality of ALL riders in the database, to eliminate the effect of the nationality bonus.
I've found the column in the DYN-cyclist. I'm guessing changing all the values to 1 will indeed achieve the desired effect, certainly when seeing that Cataldo has 2....
Now the next question, as there are a lot of riders in the database, is there anyway I can change all the cells in the column at once, or do I actually need to change every cell one by one?? |

Changing the nationalism thing won't help you. It has nothing to do with the nationality bonus.
Changing the nationality will help, obviously, but considering the side effects (teams might not sign any riders, what about scouted riders? ... etc.) I doubt that it's worth it. |

Yeah, those side effects would probably ruin the game altogether...
So you're saying I cannot edit the effect of the nationality bonus in any way?
Then what does the value in the column fkIDnationalism represent? Motivation to ride for a domestic team?
Maybe it is possible to make all the races take place in the same country? In a little country where almost no rider comes from? I can't think of any side effects for this option... Maybe the problem that I have to edit all the races each year.. |

Changing the races' nationality is probably a better solution, but you will also have to change the teams' racing programs then. Have a look in STA_calendar - it should be quite easy to understand, even if you're new to editing.
Other than that, I think it will work. |

Well, I've changed the nationality of all races to Qatar. Tried it with a new team and new game, which worked well (did one race). I will edit it in December for my current savegame, when all races have been run. That way I don't need to change the racing programs.
If anybody has found any other alternatives then I'm glad to hear about it. Because I agree with the nationality bonus, but not in its current strength... |
