I've been going for the points jersey in Österreich Rundfahrt with Fabio Sabatini and after 3 stages I currently have it, but with the same amount of points as the leading climber. Winning the sprints on flat stages is kinda easy beause I have a good sprint train going. I also snag a few points in the intermediate sprints. The problem is just that since I obviously lose the mountain stages I also lose 25 points because points are given for both the point jersey and the KoM. Is this the way it's supposed to be? I just think it's a bit counterintuative, at best.
In real there are 15pts for the winner of a flat stage and 15pts for the winner of the mountain stages.
You could write a new classification file just for this race but actually it doesn`t really matter.
But it`s different from race to race in real, in Austria it`s the same amount for both profiles. PCM just handles most continental races the same as there are just a very few different classification files.

It's a pity, to be honest. In races where it's 50-50 bestween flat and mountain stages it's s clear advantage for the climbers... Well well, chances are I'll probably lose it to either Knees or Pidgornyy.

Yeah, I also hate it. I mean, doesn't happen irl, but happen in PCM: it's soo unreal to see the GC winner also get points and KOM jersey! Happens all the times on GTs, most of the times on other stage races.
That's why I usually change this on Program Files/Cyanide/PCM/Classifications. Look for the file of the race (usually conti races have only one file for each classification: 2.HC, 2.1) and then you can change <sprint_type type ="finish_mountainstage"> on type_out="POINTS" everything to 0. Just remember there are several types of finish of mountain stages: finish_mountainstage, where the finish is flat (not mtf), finish_mountain_hc, 1, 2 and 3.

Yeah, I can't remember seeing Cavendish and Hushovd having to fight for the green jersey against Contador and Schleck...
Strange. I have it as it is in real. So also climbers get points. In my last Tour de France it was a close fight between Boonen, Haussler and Farrar.
In the Giro the GC contenders normally win the jersey. Evans ahead of Vino last year. Best sprinter Pozzato and Henderson as 8th and 11th in 2010. But with a bit of luck you can also manage it to win it with a sprinter.
The Vuelta is always a close battle between sprinters and GC contenders.
