PCM Fast Editor - version 1.3 released 10/4/2011
CT
I had some trouble using the available database editors, they either didn't offer enough stability or weren't complete enough so I made this one myself. It's pretty simple in design but it has search, a working copy/paste and some other good stuff. The UI is hopefully self explanatory. If you want to disable some of the UI goodies (like the list editor) you can do that in the Settings menu by choosing "Use Lists In Grid". The thing I've been trying to get right the most is stability - no more losing an hour of work because of a mysterious crash!

Anyway the standard disclaimers apply: use at own risk etc etc. If there are any questions or bug reports (there shouldn't be) you can post them here and I will create a fix.

You can download the editor here.
(.Net 3.5CE required, should already be present on your pc if your Windows is up to date)

Version 1.3 is released!

Time for a new version of the PCM Fast Editor. This time there are more a bunch of little fixes and features instead of the big changes. I have some more ideas for a future version but above all I want to know yours. Please don't hesitate to let me know what you want out of this editor! As always if there are any bugs or problems you are most welcome to post them here.

You can download version 1.3 here (or it will be automagically installed when you start it the next time)

Improvements for version 1.3:

- You can now have multiple databases open at the same time.
- A change to loading of databases to allow for a bit more flexibility when dealing with strage values.
- Now possible again to change local.cdb.
- Easier to hide columns.
- Changing the game date is now much - much easier.
- Added some lists where there weren't any yet.
- Fixed sorting of list columns.
- Some problems with Undo / Redo not working correctly are fixed.
- Some smaller changes.

Version 1.2 is hereby released and finished Grin

Many thanks go out to everyone who made suggestions for this new version. Hopefully the improvements in 1.2 will benefit everyone using PCM Fast Editor.Especially thanks to Mista-Flo who did the French translations and those who offered to help with them!
You should get the update auto-magically when you start the editor!

Major Improvements for version 1.2:

- Columns in the grid can now be hidden with a right-click of the mouse on the column header.
img685.imageshack.us/i/columns.png
- Table layouts are now saved when the program is closed. This includes the order in which the columns are and how wide you set them. You can also easily switch between table layouts, create new table layouts and import or export layouts!

- A list of recently opened documents is available from the Database menu
- Added Undo/Redo functionality.
- Immediately go to the connected row in a different table, for instance go to the team of the selected cyclist by right clicking the name!
- PCM Fast Editor is now translated in Dutch and French.

- You can now select the values on the list form from lists same as in the grid.

Minor improvements:
- The Id column is now auto-set when you add a new column.
- Some improvements to the speed when loading a new table have been made.
- You can send error reports directly via e-mail in the help menu (if you have an e-mail client present).

- All settings in the editor are saved when the program is closed.

Version 1.1 is released (27/03/2011):
- Fixed the "0." bug
- Added filtering
- Added ordering by columns
- Added a "create report" option in the menu. If you have a problem like "databasexml.exe has stopped to function" and the editor hasn't closed then I would really appreciate it if you can use this option to create an error file. You can then e-mail me the file (my e-mail address is in the about-box in the editor) and it would be much easier for me to see what the problem is
- Fixed some errors with adding/deleting rows
- Some other small changes you might not even notice

Just out of curiosity, in which category did you put my editor, "not enough stability" or "wasn't complete enough"

I get a lot of errors when editing in the grid. I quickly fired it up again and I immediately ran into:

An error occured

-- Inner error --
Item has already been added. Key in dictionary: 'Infragistics.Windows.Automation.Peers.DataPresenter.CellAutomationPeer' Key being added: 'Infragistics.Windows.Automation.Peers.DataPresenter.CellAutomationPeer'

Maybe it's because I want to use the editor mainly for savegame editing but in any case I needed an alternative.

Well done, CT.

Obviously, it's not a tool for big databases and mass editing, but it looks like it's easy to use for the small changes you sometimes have to make, especially when it comes to save-games.

Thanks for the kind words. Can you tell me why you don't think it's suitable for big databases or mass editing? I'm still looking to make improvements and am open to suggestions. I'd be most grateful for any ideas anyone might have.

No matter what you do, it's never going to be as easy as Excel.

Anyway, a few suggestions:
- When you click add (a new line), make the editor choose the next possible rider ID, so you don't have to find it yourself.

- What about some sort of pre-set filter that hides the (most) irrelevant tables? E.g. in DYN_cyclist, hide stuff like value_i_rank_voted, fkIDrace, etc. I'm not saying it should be like that per default, but if it had some sort of button with different sets of filters, that'd be pretty cool.

I never heard of this error before so it must be your private problem with my editor. I guess I don't have to fix it as you already made your own. Wink

I've been using Lachis Editor for a while now, but am starting to grow more and more fond of this one. I see myself using it more and more too. Its full with handy features, especially since the latest release. I was a bit hesitant at first because it might screw up my savegame but it didn't. It's always good to keep a backup, but it's proven to be a pretty stable editor for me. Keep it up!

I'm glad you like it!

I really like this editor.... it works.

I've never managed to use the other one, it always crashed (though I've been assured that it was entirely my fault)

I think it is laudable that anyone should use their talents for the good of the community, by writing really useful utilities like this one.

Well done !

Popeye.

PS. Can you tell me how I could use this editor to advance one day in a savegame?

CT
Thank you, I'm glad you like the editor!

For the game date you have to change the "gene_i_date" column in the table "GAM_config". The value is in UNIX date format so you have to convert the date you want (you can for instance here: https://www.onlineconversion.com/unix_...x_time.htm. Keep in mind that certain events in the game (for instance the start of transfer window i think) happen when one date passes to the next so you can accidentally skip over that. Hope this helps!

Lachi
Popeye, make a backup of your save in case you mess up while advancing one day. There are way more things that can go wrong then missing the transfer window. You could also make the game skip all future races.

If I may suggest a feature:

When applying the "Show Lists In Grid" option the grid gets reloaded. However, your filter isn't reapplied (if you had one applied). The dropdown for the filter field is also reset to the first option. Is it possible to reapply the filter as it was automatically?

CT
You're of course correct, Lachi, it's always a good idea to keep a backup before you make any changes.

devnl: thank you! I fixed that for the next version (later today)
