Wow, weird world champions. Pfft

baia
That was a big surprise and a big win from Fabian Wegman...Garmin has had a great season and with 5 more races it can end in perfection.

@ FreitasPCM: Boom has 79ITT,82PRL in the end of the 2nd season. Plus he was focused on the Worlds.
But Wegmann was indeed very surprising.

The "Sparkassen Münsterland Giro" is a German one-day classic. It was held the first time in 2006 and since then always on the "German Day of Unity". It belongs to the UCI Europe Tour and is listed as 1.1 category.

Garmin squad in 2011
img137.imageshack.us/img137/9726/teamfg.jpg
Tyler Farrar will be our leader here to defend his title. Vansummeren, who just improved one stat in hill will help him in the final. Dao, who also improved a lot this season will try it in the sprint today as he can ride on his own. But probably he still needs more time.
Hesjedal is taking part to build up a good form for his last goal this season, Il Lombardia.
It`s a special race for our talent Löw as he lives here for years now and coming back for racing with a big cycling team was his dream.

Münster - Münster
img140.imageshack.us/img140/6115/profilekv.jpg
Except of some hills in the middle of the stage, the stage is perfect for the sprinters. But as earlier results here show there is always a good chance for a breakaway.

img404.imageshack.us/img404/9135/pcm0001w.jpg
10 riders are in the break today. Most famous there are Nerz (Thüringer), Wrolich (Vacansoleil) and A.Masciarelli (Ceramica).
But as there are no riders of the 3 biggest teams with NetApp, Garmin and HTC the chances are quite low.

img689.imageshack.us/img689/5134/pcm0006p.jpg
NetApp, Garmin and De Rosa are doing the pace. The advance is always around 5min and starts to melt with 75km to go.

img541.imageshack.us/img541/273/pcm0007.jpg
30km and 2'30 for the group. Many teams are working now to catch them soon. The pace is incredibly high and so Dao starts to struggle while Farrar is still feeling great.

img337.imageshack.us/img337/7365/pcm0008i.jpg
With 13km to go the last riders are caught. Now the sprint can begin.

img80.imageshack.us/img80/1599/pcm0009h.jpg
Vansummeren rides to the front with Farrar on his wheel. Unfortunately our young Dane wasn`t able to get Farrar`s wheel as he was too exhausted.

img826.imageshack.us/img826/7236/pcm0010.jpg
As Farrar was very early in the wind it was closer than expected. He wins ahead of Howard (HTC) and Wagner (NetApp).
Our success continues but actually it was expected here.

Close win, the streak continues Smile

Tuco the Ugly
As everyone has said, awesome, awesome Vuelta.

Nice worlds too. A rainbow jersey for one of your riders, and one for a rider you controlled.

Oh, and good win in the Sparkassen Münsterland Giro. Seems a bit underwhelming compared to the rest though!

roturn
Thanks. I hope the domination will be less next season with some more teams then. Also the riders should have a better form at the Worlds.
Indeed Sparkassen Giro, Paris Bourges and Milano Torino are just preparation for the other races and the starting field is quite weak.

www.directvelo.com/upload/index12_4.gif

Paris–Bourges is a French road bicycle race from Paris to Bourges in the Massif Central. It was first held in 1913 and since then 60 editions with record winners Danielle Nardello and Marcel Dussault.
In the last few years it was normally won by sprinters.

Paris - Bourges
img130.imageshack.us/img130/3162/pcm0002x.jpg
The profile is similar to the Münsterland Giro. Mostly flat with some hills in the middle. We`ll see what Dao can do today.

img692.imageshack.us/img692/1578/pcm0004k.jpg
Janorschke (Nutrixxion), Caldeira (Palmeiras), Bonsergent (Bretagne), V.Iglinskiy (BigMat), Laganà (De Rosa) and Lisabeth (An Post) are the 6 attackers.

img543.imageshack.us/img543/1706/pcm0005r.jpg
Garmin is doing the pace with Rowe and Meier. The young Australian has to improve next year, otherwise it will be hard for him to get a new contract as Dao and Löw improved much better than him.

img195.imageshack.us/img195/5339/pcm0006d.jpg
The gap was always controlled and with 8km they are back and the sprint can start.
Vansummeren and Hunter were preparing for Farrar. Dao was also able to hang on Farrar`s wheel but already a bit out of power.

img526.imageshack.us/img526/7466/pcm0007r.jpg
And Farrar wins the 2nd race in October ahead of Dehaes and Goddaert. Hunter follows on 4 and Baris Dao on 15 was the maximum. But it`s a big step on his way to a great sprinter.

I just decided to change to Extreme in 2012. I can always switch back if it`s not running at all.
But my team is even stronger next year.

Milano–Torino is a semi classic European single day cycling race, between the northern Italian cities of Milan and Turin over a distance of 199 kilometres. It was first held in 1876. It`s the oldest in Italy and of course also one of the oldest in the world.

Milano - Torino
img706.imageshack.us/img706/4629/pcm0005.jpg
The race will probably be decided in on the climb 30km to the finish. It`s the only real difficulty here.

img96.imageshack.us/img96/273/pcm0007.jpg
Some riders of the smaller teams with an early attack.

img834.imageshack.us/img834/5645/pcm0011b.jpg
There wasn`t very much during the whole stage. So we jump to the final climb, where Hesjedal increases.

img145.imageshack.us/img145/9976/pcm0012.jpg
Just Sagan, F.Masciarelli and Vansummeren were able to follow. Sanchez and Nibali are following next.
Vansummeren make a fast pace to let Nibali behind. Hesjedal can save energy to attack in the end as Sagan is by far the fastest man.

img255.imageshack.us/img255/3798/pcm0013m.jpg
But his attack was not effective enough. Sagan wins the sprint ahead of Hesjedal and Masciarelli. Vansummeren saves the 4th.

The Giro di Lombardia is the last ProTour event in the season and also the last of the 5 monuments. So all big names will meet again in Octobre to fight for a very prestigious win.
It`s held since 1905 and goes into his 104th edition this year. Since 2010 the route leads from Milano to Como as it was already from 1961-1984 before it changed several times in between.
The riders have to climb several very steep and long climbs around the Lago di Como.
With 5 wins Fausto coppi is the record winner here.

Although Simoni was already decreasing a lot he won this monument after an attack with more than 100km to go. He joined the break later, got rid of them and finished ahead of the favourites.
Basso attacked on the last climb and Hesjedal lost the sprint against Schleck for the podium.

Hesjedal will be our leader and he wants a better result than last year. Vansummeren will be co leader as he is the only one with a very good form.
Sanchez will help if necessary.

Simoni isn`t here and can`t defend his win. Also Ricco is missing, who had a bad season with Vacansoleil. But all other puncheurs and climbers are here and so it could be an interesting race. Especially Liquigas with Gilbert, Sagan, Nibali and Kreuziger are very strong but also the Schleck brothers, Contador, Cunego and all the others are great on this terrain.

Milano - Como
img233.imageshack.us/img233/3843/pcm0015w.jpg
The decision will probably fall on the Sormano 40km in front of Como. But also the San Fermo 5km to the line will be a good point for attacks.

img17.imageshack.us/img17/4904/pcm0017g.jpg
Several riders with an attack. Bruseghin is the most famous there. With his great Vuelta he is definitely a guy you must take care of. Other riders are De Greef, Rasmussen, Mate or Pinotti.

img337.imageshack.us/img337/1404/pcm0018.jpg
With 150km Martens attacks. He is Rabobank`s leader here. Just Simone Stortoni follows him. Together they will try to join the group, which is 8min ahead.

img43.imageshack.us/img43/5025/pcm0023t.jpg
The peloton reaches the Madonna del Ghisallo, which is the last climb ahead of the Sormano and there are already just about 50 riders in this group. But still 6 Garmin riders and our leaders are still feeling good.

img840.imageshack.us/img840/5772/pcm0025.jpg
On the Sormano Hesjedal attacks and creates a gap.
Stortoni got rid of Martens, what is quite surprising actually and is still leading. Can he win on a similar way than Simoni did last year?

img412.imageshack.us/img412/5161/pcm0026d.jpg
Contador is the first favourite, that tries to close the gap to the Canadian.
More riders will follow.

img137.imageshack.us/img137/7669/pcm0027.jpg
On the descent Stortoni is the last riders in front as Martens got just caught. With 30km to go he is still 4min ahead. But is he still strong enough for the last hill or can the favourites join up to him?

img257.imageshack.us/img257/4117/pcm0028f.jpg
After the Sormano the group became really small but with Hesjedal, Sanchez and Vansummeren we have 3 riders there. The other riders are Contador, A.Schleck, Gilbert, Masciarelli and surprisingly Van Den Broeck, who was injured for half the season and not able to race all his goals for 2011.
Contador tries it with another attack.
Sanchez and Vansummeren are doing a high pace now to bring him back.

img9.imageshack.us/img9/299/pcm0029.jpg
Hesjedal attacked on the San Fermo and splitted the group again. Just Contador and F.Masciarelli (76mo,76hi) are able to follow. The Italian was alrady strong in the last races and showed that he is in a great shape.
Unfortunately Stortoni stuggled just a bit and will win here.

img199.imageshack.us/img199/2866/pcm0030h.jpg
The Italian wins Il Lombardia totally unexpected and celebrates his biggest win of his career. Once more a breakaway wins here,

img695.imageshack.us/img695/5052/pcm0031.jpg
Contador started the sprint at first. So it was quite easy for Masciarelli and Hesjedal to overtake him. They finished with just one minute back and should have done a higher pace probably.
Sanchez and Vansummeren also finished in the top 10, but because of Gilbert it`s not enough to beat Liquigas in the CQ Ranking.

Great end to a great season, three riders in a such big monument is a great result, and podium for Hesjedal, best of luck to a new one, in which your team will do even better than this season Smile
