1st week done and some interesting racing.
- Froome: strongest rider in the Tour, doped our clean.
- Movistar: Lame tactical racing.
- Contador: Not as good as hoped, but think he'll be better in the last week.
- Belkin: some great racing!
- Sky: how is it possible that in 1 day, the team gets destroyed (besides Froome), with the 2nd rider finishing over 15 minutes today (I won't count Kennaugh, as nearly got executed). I'm thinking about Intralipid and PDM now.....
- the French riders (Pinot, Rolland, Voeckler): okay, Rolland is targeting the polka dot, but they are very weak. Only Bardet is doing good. I don't care, as I really don't like them.
- Sprinters: 3 real mass sprints, with 3 winners.
- Crashes: Luckily not that many.
- Andy Schleck: after being so weak the entire season, he surprises me a lot. He'll be back for '14.
Predictions:
- Froome will crush the opponents in the next ITT.
- One stage will be won by a Dutch rider.
- Battle for the 2nd place will be a nice one, with Valverde now looking the best, but COntador taking it.
- There will be no rider be caught with doping this Tour!!!

Saw the start, then missed a bit or had it on in the background until towards the end of the final climb. Seems I caught the best parts of the race!
Great to see Dan Martin take the win, outsmarting Fuglsang at the end.

I'm really trying to assess Andy Schleck right now. Maybe he just had a good day, and it wasn't a massive selection. He's definitely not back to his old self, but this is a step forward for him.

You mean that Radioshack guy afraid to ride downhill so he almost didn't finish with the favorites? What about him?

Oh just that he looked really good at the last climb, no problems following the pack. |

But really were Team Sky that good on first day in the mountains. Bar Kennaugh (who arguably could have been in the front group) and Porte they were very pretty ordinary on the first day in the mountains. Lopez, Siutsou have been very ordinary, Kirylenka is gone, Thomas is injured and Hagen/Stannard are not really good enough to survive these sorts of climbs. They can be isolated, but who knows what will happen in the next week.
Porte had a bad day, of course every single thing a Sky rider does good or bad is seen as indisputable proof of something dodgy, in this case I disagree he simply had a bad day.
Just looked again at the parcours, I'd argue Movistar's next opportunity to attack Froome as a team comes in stage 18 (double Alpe ascent). In fact 18,19 and 20 look very tough indeed, will look forward to them. In the meantime we have two Chrono's, Ventoux and some flat and hilly ones. By then I am guess Froome could be four or five minutes clear.
Dan Martin meanwhile, what a year he is having. Good chances to of a top 10 at the Tour.

Damiano Cunego was crying like a Baby a few days ago saying people are underestimating him as a CG Contender, jmmmmm poor Cunego I wonder why people was doing such a thing
Can someone please tell me WTF happend to TJVG and Pinot, i allways new TJVG was overating but Pinot ......
And now its more than clear that the white jersey is going to be a battle of 2 and that Kennaugh and Meyer has no real chances.

Why did you even categorize Kennaugh? He was always going to be a domestique that did hard work and then let go after he finished.
And anyway Kennaugh might not get the prestige of White Jersey, but he has come of age finally. With Kiryenka gone and Thomas still struggling with injury, Kennaugh will be now vital for Froome.

“I have a sore shoulder and a bit of road rash but we live to fight another day.”
No idea about Siutsou, could well be overraced, he had a preety tough schedule, was surprised when saw him in the squad to be fair.

Serpa crashed in the final downhill today but still finished in the 2nd group
He is now Lampre's leader for the gc while Cunego and Niemic will try to go for a stage win

I'm surprised about Serpa, doing much better than I expected he would in his first WT season. |
