Garmin - End of 3rd Season - Continue in PCM11
Tombola
A shame that Hoogerland didn't do so well the previous stages!

If you keep your strategy like this, save energy and don't attack at weird places, this should be the Vuelta of LL! He is still in your team for next year?

Thanks.
Of course he is. Hesjedal, Fuglsang, Sanchez, Martin and maybe Stetina for the big mountains.
Kessiakoff for hilly one week races.

I am not sure yet, but it might be possible that Hesjedal will concentrate on all the classics and one week races and Fuglsang takes his part in the Tour. No decision yet.

Great win again,Sánchez is having some intelligent tactics at the stages, very good.

Thanks. I am also surprised about my domination. Maybe I should switch to "Extreme" or at least for the final 3 months of a year.

Next race will be Tour of Britain where I decided to put 2-3 stages into one report as it is not very exciting as you see after stage 1 and primarily it`s just a preparation for the World Cup.

img524.imageshack.us/img524/2726/tourofbritainlogo1jpge9.jpg

The Tour of Britain is an annual cycling race in Great Britain. It was first held in 1945 and was the first British cycling race after the war. Since then it had several names and was primarily an amateur race over several stages.
The modern race was first held in 2004 over 5 days. It`s in general a mix of hilly and flat stages, so the favourites are riders with a good mix between puncheurs and sprinters.
The first winner of the modern race was Mauricio Ardila in 2004.

Tyler Farrar won last year with 5 stage wins. Thanks to these bonus seconds he was able to take the win although Schleck and Lövkvist gained time on the more hilly stages. Maaskant and Millar were a great support for him. In general it was a big battle between Saxobank, Garmin and Lövkvist.

Garmin squad 2011
img190.imageshack.us/img190/1280/teammhj.jpg
Our squad is way stronger than in 2010 and so we hope for another overall win here. Farrar will try to defend his title but if necessary Boom or Vansummeren can also attack on the hills. Robert Hunter isn`t really in shape after his crash. With Kreder, Millar, Löw and Meyer we have 4 excellent helpers.

Favourites

***** Cancellara
**** Lövkvist, Farrar
*** Hagen, Breschel, Gasparotto
** Vinokourov, Boom, Gerrans, Spilak
* Flecha, Ricco, Vansummeren, Iglinskiy, Burghardt

As last year there are several big names participating. Cancellara should be the favourite after a strong Eneco and the Worlds coming soon. Lövkvist proved last year that you must have him on your list.
Farrar is the strongest sprinter here and so we hope for a similar success with him. All other favourites are either good puncheurs or sprinters with good hill stats.

Tour of Britain - Stage 1
London
img403.imageshack.us/img403/8236/pcm0011.jpg
First stage is quite flat and so we hope for a great sprint train in the end with Vansummeren, Boom, Hunter and Farrar and of course a win.

The stage was quite boring with a breakaway including several unknown riders of small teams. Garmin, Sky and Saxobank did the pace for most of the stage and with 20km they group was caught.
Vansummeren rode to the front with Hunter behind him. Boom and Farrar followed a few meters behind.

img821.imageshack.us/img821/9573/pcm0016z.jpg
Then with 8km to go a big crash and of course Boom and Farrar on the ground. Not just no chance for todays win, also losing more than 1min on this stage. This was the end of all ambitions with Farrar or Boom.
Hunter and Vansummeren try to save the day with a good sprint, but Vansummeren isn`t known as good sprinter and Hunter is totally out of form.
But also other favourites are on the ground. Top favourite Cancellara will lose time as also Burghardt today.

img821.imageshack.us/img821/8469/pcm0017a.jpg
So Boasson Hagen with a win ahead of Steegmans and Gatto. Hunter on 16 was more than expected with his fitness. Also we lost 2 of our 3 leaders today when Boom and Farrar finished with +1'20.
These two will support Vansummeren now for a good overall and go for stage wins if they aren`t too much injured.

Tour of Britain - Stage 2
Reading - Southampton
img833.imageshack.us/img833/9135/pcm0001w.jpg
The second stage is a bit more hilly and so the puncheurs might attack today the first time. After Farrar won`t defend his title we will try to split the peloton with a hard pace to bring Vansummeren into a better position. But the attacks might follow on the next 2 stages, which are way harder.

img821.imageshack.us/img821/6884/pcm0002o.jpg
Again there was a bigger breakaway around Thomas, Kittel and Oliphant.
But as expected the pace was very high in the peloton and so the advance was never really big. After the mountain passage many riders were already dropped including Farrar and Hunter. Actually Farrar would have been a chance to survive within the first group but I haven`t really watched him on the climb and then it was too late.

img339.imageshack.us/img339/9123/pcm0005c.jpg
We had still 5 riders in this group and Meyer, Kreder and Löw did an amazin job holding a very high pace. So the other groups were never able to join again. With 30km to ride the last 3 of the break for caught.

Many puncheurs tried to attack now. Cancellara, Lövkvist, Ricco, Breschel, Vinokourov and Flecha, but Boom with an great pace brought all back. Vansummeren was in the 30 rider field and was able to save his energy for the next 2 stages.

img256.imageshack.us/img256/6959/pcm0006i.jpg
With Duque the only "sprinter" in this group won the stage for Leopard-Trek ahead of Vinokourov and his team mate Dmitriyev. Vansummeren showed a good performance as 7th.
Unfortunately the group in the back around overall leader Boasson Hagen was counted with the same time and so not 27 but 43 riders didn`t lose time today. Most famous names in the 2nd group were Boasson Hagen, Gerrans, Larsson, Ricco and Burghardt.

The starting list is quite similar to Quebec with some changes. But Hesjedal will also be the top favourite in Montreal.

tsmoha
Looking forward to Montreal. Hope to see Hesjedal doing a great race like he did in Quebec!

Things in Spain are going very well, keep it up! Cool

roturn
Thanks. This could really work out in Spain. Would be a great end in 2011 although I thought I don`t have any rider in this season and also next season to win a GT with. But there are still 3 mountain stages and the TTT left.

Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal
Montréal - Montréal
img143.imageshack.us/img143/3600/pcm0008e.jpg
Several very steep climbs on every lap but as they are just very short, it should be easier than Quebec. But also harder to get rid of guys like Visconti.

img534.imageshack.us/img534/7236/pcm0010.jpg
It took more than 50km until a group attacked successful. So it was a very fast first hour. Lancaster (Saxobank), Fröhlinger (NetApp), Nepomnyachsniy (Astana), Zagorodniy (Miche) and Engels (Quickstep) are in this group.

img835.imageshack.us/img835/9039/pcm0011w.jpg
With 3 riders our team makes the pace. Doesn`t look good for the breakaway and so everything runs perfect for Hesjedal.

img718.imageshack.us/img718/7169/pcm0012y.jpg
Popovych attacked first and obviously he was quite strong and our riders weren`t able to close the gap completely, so Hesjedal attacked on the last lap.
After a while he catched up to the Ukrainian.

img411.imageshack.us/img411/3536/pcm0013f.jpg
In the sprint Hesjedal was much stronger than Popovych and was able to celebrate on the last meters under the cheering of all the Canadians here in Montreal. Great win for Hesjedal and excellent debut for Garmin in the Canadian Pro Tour classics.
Popovych saved his 2nd ahead of the big peloton where Valjavec was the strongest.
With Dominique Rollin a second Canadian rider in the top 10.

What a ride from Ryder! Grin

Alakagom
You are reporting so fast, I can't keep up Grin Great win by Sanchez, looks you won your first GT of the year, great double with Hesjedal, Canadian rules the Canadian races, hopefully next season he will perform better in the Ardennes classics as well.

What a win by Ryder.

roturn
Thanks all.
@ Alakagon: Hope so, too. He was way better in 2010 where he finished in top 5 in MSR and AGR and top 10 in LBL and FW. Hope I can repeat the top 5 in Lombardia with him.

La Vuelta a Espana - Stage 15
Cangas de Onís - Valgrande Pajares
img404.imageshack.us/img404/5994/pcm0014.jpg
Another very hard stage. It`s the last real mountain top finish as the other two mountain stages might end with a bigger group in a sprint. So today is the best chance to gain more time on Contador. Sanchez is still feeling great and also Kessiakoff can still defend his top 10 here (74mo,76hi).

img502.imageshack.us/img502/2011/pcm0015i.jpg
Some riders with the usual attack. One of them as expected is Tondo (Saxobank), who wants to win the KoM jersey. The other riders are Ladagnous (FDJ), Brutt (Katusha) and Marcato (Vacansoleil).

img822.imageshack.us/img822/3420/pcm0016.jpg
After the second mountain all 4 riders are riding solo and of course Tondo in the lead.

img695.imageshack.us/img695/6072/pcm0017s.jpg
Again Euskaltel is doing most pace in the peloton. Duggan and Wilson are helping them but they don`t really have to.

img194.imageshack.us/img194/2349/pcm0018o.jpg
On the last climb before the final one Sastre and Schleck attacked. Both of them are a big danger for Sanchez and so we set a higher pace.

img823.imageshack.us/img823/8817/pcm0019.jpg
The final climb starts and just Frank Schleck ahead of the group but he will also be caught soon.

img838.imageshack.us/img838/6672/pcm0020a.jpg
As on most stages Contador with the first favourite`s attack. Sanchez is directly behind him and can follow.

img593.imageshack.us/img593/114/pcm0021o.jpg
Both of them are leading the race again. As Navarro comes from behind Sanchez increases to avoid the tactical advance.

img193.imageshack.us/img193/9360/pcm0022x.jpg
And surprisingly Contador with big problems to follow. Therefore Sastre joined him, who looks really strong today after his earlier attack.

img267.imageshack.us/img267/3766/pcm0023.jpg
This was a big win for Sanchez gaining a lot of time on most favourites.
27s behind him Contador and Sastre crossed the line but the next group is already more than 2 min behind. Kessiakoff is even coming in ahead of Fuglsang and Porte and also Stetina did quite well today and so we have a advance of 4min in the team ranking now. Great job by our riders today.
Samuel Sanchez must be careful as Sastre is just 3s behind him and could steal his podium.
