Ian, do you still have my race proposal from the start of the season? (Muur van Geraardsbergen)
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

I see Rudy Verboven has some form of time machine, claiming to have ridden the Tour Down Under despite it still being the 1st week of January

I'm not going to make up any new African races, but still got several left over from the pre-season suggestions (as well as a few more USA ones to replace Central Park)

Yeah, I've noticed the weird timing, too
As well as Christian Schiltz naming Sven Welling World Champion? Though I think he meant Dries Cornelis
@TMM: Okay, thanks!

Well Schiltz didn't have the best of views, since he was leaving whoever it was behind!

Indeed. And also, it isn't fair to expect Schiltz to know Cornelis' face, since he's only seen his behind this season so far. |

Manhattan Challenge Cross, N.Y.
Spoiler Technical information: [enter a number between 1 - 5, with 1 being very low / nothing and 5 being very high
Technicality: 4 - A reasonably well-thought out route which won't test the riders to the limit but has a few turns which will catch the unprepared off-guard.
Sand: 1 - None
Uphill: 4 - Lots of little bumps with the main attraction being a cobbled climb up to the finishing area.
Length of 1 lap: 3
Cobbled sections: 4
Final sprint (length of the final straight road): It's a bend.
Other information: History - The race was traditionally low-key, where Belgians in N.Y. would come every year and have some fun. With the recent (circa 2004) rise in the ACX (American CX) League, an amateur league, the course became one of the more popular races there. Now, with the success of the first U.S. pro rider joining the ranks, this race has applied to get pro level to encourage the top amateurs to step on up too. The man with the most wins to his name is Jack Windes, with six straight victories from 2002-2008.
The race: It starts with a sharp descent into the first of our motocross-esque sectors with many little bumps to shell the weak ones. Then into our first and hardest cobbled section, due to the technical difficulty and it's also dubbed the "HINY" sector (Hell In New York). Then the gradual climb before a slightly cobbled descent before a technical section and more undulations. Then comes 'The Wall', which you will only attempt to complete with your bike under your bum rather than over your shoulder once. It's really far too steep. That's only short though and we have cobbles, another small hill, technical descent and onto Windes Hill, as Jack Winded always inexplicably won it here. Though we doubt that to be possible now. Windes hill is a gradual, winding cobbled (heavily) climb, won with power, not acceleration. It ends with a twist 90° and suddenly the line is right there round the bend. The top of the hill gives a beautiful view over N.Y. at night. That's right, night. Did we mention it starts at 7:15pm and is floodlit?
/// CairoCross
Spoiler Technical information: [enter a number between 1 - 5, with 1 being very low / nothing and 5 being very high
Technicality: 5
Sand: 3
Uphill: 2
Length of 1 lap: 5
Cobbled sections: 3
Final sprint (length of the final straight road): 200m
Other information: History - A new race, designed to grab the attention of top World Cup riders like Dries Cornelis. Also applying to be part of the World Cup.
The Race - We start in a small outskirts area with lightly cobbled roads and the traditional position jostle before heading off to the man-made course. From here we enter the first highly technical area before entering the first of three sand areas this one is none too hard, only going a few cm high. Before long we are on a hard cobbles section seperating the climbers from the technical masters and cobbled specialists. Then onto the second sandpit and up a dune before a twisting cobbled descent and onto a technical and lightly cobbled section before a short grass climb and the last sandpit, which really should be run even by the specialists. The last hard cobbled sector before a technical run-up to the outskirts of Cairo and the slightly cobbled final straight.
NEW! Windhoek Classic
Spoiler Technical information: [enter a number between 1 - 5, with 1 being very low / nothing and 5 being very high
Technicality: 3
Sand: 1 - Very Low
Uphill: 5
Length of 1 lap: 5
Cobbled sections: 2
Final sprint (length of the final straight road): 30m
Other information:
History - An amateur race that began last year due to the widespread popularity of the NamDeb CycloX team, the only edition of the race was won by puncher Tetsi Tomboso.
The Race - Windhoek is based on the side of a sloping hill, and we start at the top in the city. There is a fast start with plenty of gravel and dirt and rocks to navigate and jump. Then we move onto the first (man-made) cobbled sectors, one of the only non-natural parts of the course, a tough one going downhill. Then a few twists before some barriers to jump over or run. Then we have a sudden sandy U-turn before we begin the climb back up to the city. Another steep man-made cobbled section and we have a slightly evened out rocky section before the road turns ugly and we have a steep dirt section. Then begins the sealed road up to the finish and a quick kick up the gradients and we turn back around and 30m of downhill gravel towards the line.
NEW! /// Team Vista Challenge Cross
Spoiler Technical information: [enter a number between 1 - 5, with 1 being very low / nothing and 5 being very high
Technicality: 4
Sand: 4
Uphill: 2
Length of 1 lap: 2
Cobbled sections: 1 - None
Final sprint (length of the final straight road): 150m
Other information:
History - A race set up for young kids on the town bikes by Australian charity Team Vista (I strongly advise you to look it up, I know the co-founder) this event takes place in Moshi, Tanzania, right next to Mt Kilamanjaro. The race has been won mostly by twelve-year-old prodigy Hari Metsi.
The Race - We start in the slums on dirt paths before a technical section weaving past buildings and then a tough sand section before, interestingly, water. That's right, a long river crossing (obviously pretty shallow) and onto a pack of sand dunes before spinning back around a very difficult twisting section and the final slightly uphill straight. An open race with parts to suit anyone and maybe no one.

@jandal - I'd love to know where "a gradual, winding cobbled (heavily) climb" is in Manhattan

Keep your eyes on the site this weekend. I have a plan, and I hope to execute it.
Because Monday I start with a busier period (about a month, but I should get a few updates out, though, but can't say in advance when or how fast), I want to make this a top weekend.
My plan:
Do the race in the next few hours.
Do the preview for the Continental Championships tonight.
Do the Continental Championships tomorrow evening.
Now, I'm not sure if I can do it, I have some other things to do, but it would be nice to conclude the Championships this weekend! So stay tuned! |

With such a fast race, Mazzarelli did brilliantly to finish top 10. I think he's ready for Tabor on Sunday

Nice conti championships tomorrow would be lovely and great. The inclusion of amateurs and non-signed riders is very nice too. Looking forward to it.

Thanks Ian for Shanghai, nice performance by Cook and good to see yet more names at the forefront.
The current theme of going too soon and paying for it seems to be happening!

Hopefully, the Continental Championships will be raced today! Expect shorter reports, though, because there are four of them. Maybe Eurasian will be a bit longer than other three, hope everyone understands why but I'll see.
So send in tactics if you want, you still have a few hours, I reckon |

Enjoy the Continental Championships!
Not very long reports, but I don't think that bothers anyone. Too many races to report in one sitting anyway Hope you enjoy it nevertheless.
NOTE 1: You can claim any non-official rider as your own for next season if you want. I imagine Markson will be popular, so if you want him, let me know any other rider can be claimed, just PM me or state it below. If more than one user is interested, I'll look at their current riders and/or activity and/or motivation.
NOTE 2: I wasn't very creative when coming up with names for the American Championship, so there are some jokes there for who's seen Friends and How I Met Your Mother, enjoy
NOTE 3: note 1 doesn't include riders from note 2 (so from America, only the podium and John Markson (brother to Markson) can be claimed.) Well, besides Power, who's already taken. If you got that, my hat off to you!
