@Ian Butler - Can't agree more!
A tough MTF, it'll surely shake up the GC, the climbs're going to be really tough for the riders, gonna be a hell of a day!
Quite big break today with Pavel Brutt amongst some others, they quickly built up a great lead, but at the end of the day it was no use, because halfway the stage the peloton started the chase, and they had no problems chasing them down quickly.
During the first climb, something interesting happened... A favourite was down.....
It was the croatian Puskaric! He didn't feel great, but was trying to limit his losses with the help of his teammate Andrzej Piasecki. The elite group before of him is consisting of 16 riders, including all the main favourites.
The dropped down a bit on the flat, Puskaric managed to fight his way back to the group, and he seemed to be OK before the last tough climb. As Sky upped the pace on the last ascend, several attacks came from Froome, Evans and Schleck. The first few of these attacks weren't really successful, but after numerous attacks, Evans and Froome managed to get clear just before the last kilometer.
Under the Flamme Rouge it was Froome and Evans upfront, Schleck and Puskaric (!) half a minute behind them, while Gesink and Horner were also coming close to them. At the front the sprint for the win started, and Froome shook off Evans, who was having a hard time keeping up.
And Chris Froome takes it after a great sprint! Evans comes at 2nd, 19s down him, while A.Schleck gets 3rd ahead of Puskaric,Horner and Gesink. This group came in at 34', but as the gap weren't too enormous, the GC shake-up wasn't as big as expected by the experts.

Finishing 4th after a crash is not too bad, actually

Why doesn't Adnrzej get a point for helping his leader so well today? |

@fcancellara - Yes, Kristjan is a real fighter, tbh I can't wait for the TDF !
@Ian Butler - Well, he dropped back quite early (after a kilometer or so), and Puskaric had to chase on his own basically.
@Miguel98 - Indeed, there will surely be some better ones throughout the Tour.
The final stage of TdS is coming up today! |

@andy222c - Thanks, hope it'll become even better at the TDF.
An MTF again, it's not as tough as yesterday's, but it's hard nonetheless.
A strong break today, led by Tomekke, Gasparotto and Mazzanti. This group managed to build a 22 minutes gap, and Van de Walle was right on the edge of getting the provisional lead. Just as Sky got this info, they pushed the pace a bit on the mountains and brought them back to 4 minutes until the start of the last climb.
Starting the last ascend the break still had plenty of a lead ahead of the peloton, and they worked together to make it to the line. Kostyuk and Mazzanti were especially working a lot, but the others helped too.
The peloton was pretty nervous all-day, lots of attacks, but Froome reeled them all back - in, and it was still 25-men group there. They're slowly coming closer to the pursuivants, and the gap was at 2 minutes.
Turning into the last kilometer it was Boonen leading ahead of Pauriol, but the pack was coming close! It's going to be really close, can they hold on?!
Yes, Pauriol wins the stage! Great sprint, faster than Boonen! Gasparotto takes the 3rd, while the best rider out of the peloton is Puskaric, who even gapped the other favourites. Great stage by him, he was really strong.

Tour de France Preview Part 1
The race kicks off with a 6.1 kilometer long prologue in the town of Liege. Then the riders start to head back to France through some tough belgian hillls, and a steep uphill finish. Stage 3 brings the riders back to France with an easy sprint stage. Then 4 easy flat stages come, and this concludes the 1st week of racing.
Week two starts with the first MTF of the race on the really hard Les Planches des Belles Filles. This is going to shake up the GC for sure. After that tough hilly stage comes, ideal for breakaways. Stage 10 is a 38 kilometer long ITT, the GC contenders can't afford and off-day there. Stage 11 brings us some mountains, but those climbs are too far away from the finish, so it's great again for breaks. The next stage brings us the big mountains, the queen stage of this year's route finishing on the La Toussoire. There're surely going to be some big gaps after this inredibly tough stage. After the Toussoire the riders have 2 stages for mass-sprints, and this conludes Week 2.
Let's see what week 3 brings for us. Starts with a great stage for a break, then a flat one for the sprinters. After that a mountain stage comes, the favourites that need time are surely going to attack there. Stage 18 brings us the 3rd MTF of the year, it's going to decide the GC more or less. Then a flat stage again, and afterwards the all-deciding 52 kilometer long TT comes, which will decide the winner of the race. After that it's only the traditional finish at the Champs - Élysées.
2nd part will come tomorrow earliest! |
