Great finish! Glad Di Luca didn't win in the end and that Battaglin won it.

Haha! That tends to happen when true sprinters can't keep up, and the climbers don't care.
Surely someone has to be motivated by the time bonuses, right? 20 sec is quite a chunk.

Big thanks to jdog for making this AMAZING userbar!

You would think, right...

Thought my laptop was lagging, but it was just how slow they were going.
Wiggins loses 17 secs due to nothing but himself, whereas Weening finishes 10 secs off after puncturing at the start of the final climb, working his way back through all the discarded peleton and ending close to the front group. Weird.

Hear hear. His face was priceless (Battaglin's), he couldn't believe it. Di Luca with a nice try but not good enough |

I'll go mad if the GC teams start to push on that hill like they did Monday...
This is Degenkolb's stage, keep your hands off! You won't drop anyone!

Break has 3 minutes after 9km - Tomas Gil (Androni), Pirazzi (Bardiani), Marangoni (Cannondale), Mestre (Euskatel), Bulgac (Lotto) and Andriato (Vini Fantini)
Fantasy aside - Pirazzi on the hunt again \o/
Edit - Teams added, plenty of Italian wildcard presence there.

Worth noting is that they climbed the much easier side of Montescaglioso back then. This time they're climbing a 3 km 8% wall, plus the 6 km climb into Matera. Would surprise me if any pure sprinters survive.

And the pace was incredibly slow. 4 hours at 36km/h before the climb.
Still, I fancy Degenkolb and Ventoso to keep up if Hesjedal doesn't feel like wasting energy again.
