If there is one thing I can complain then it is that you often let us know the result right from the start of the report. I know that this is telling a story about him but still I like that intense while I´m reading... But you are doing a great job none the less |

Wonder when the other riders openly declare that they're going for second place when Roberto is there

francopell: So maybe next year?
fcancellara: Normally until retirement. Unless it bores out, of course.
JuanMotr: I'll try to stop doing that in advance, then thanks for the feedback!
Daggen: That's something
rogvi97: Thanks his form is still surprisingly well, indeed!
Jakstar22: Thanks
andy222c: I like that Piqué, he's a worthy opponent
Atlantius: Some day
sutty68: Thank you!
Thanks for the many, many comments everyone! |

According to Wikipedia he has already achieved the broader definition of the Triple Crown: https://en.wikiped...of_Cycling |

Yeah, but that doesn't count
It's a nice achievement, but Giro + Tour + WC counts for him |

And Nicholas Roche's father, Stephen Roche is one of the two, that has achieved that achievement... THe other one is Eddy Merckx... But Stephen Roche is mentally ill
An that was fact number one.

Gran Premio di Lombardia 2014
Pre-Race
For the first time, Roberto seemed tireless and participated in Coppa del Piemonte, winning the race in a mass sprint, slightly uphill! The World Champion was ready for Lombardia.
The Race
Would Roberto make his 23th victory of the season?
Lombardia was a race custom made for Roberto. Very late in the season, he still had monstrously much energy left, while must opponents were drained of theirs. However, a strong Nibali and Schleck appeared at the start, eager to win this Monument.
After the second climb of the day, the peloton was reduced to a smaller group.
On the third climb, Costa turned it up a notch, reducing the pack even further.
And then Roberto was on his own. A one man army against a sea of rivals.
The best defense is offense, and so only Nibali and A. Schleck were able to hold on to Roberto's pace.
Nibali looked quite fresh and surprised Roberto and the world with a strong attack!
Roberto reacted like a true champion and caught him 200m later.
A smaller group was able to return for the final sprint. It was Roberto first turning the final corner, accelerating to over 65km/h
And he took his third consecutive Gran Premio di Lombardia! Fausto Coppi's record of 5 wins was within reach.
And so Roberto concluded his third season, what was amazing about him was that he was still making progress. This could not continue, could it?
Roberto Velásquez:
Today was a nice day for me. I give special thanks to Costa, who found the energy to return to the pack after a bad fall and split the pack. He's a great teammate and I'm glad he resigned for an additional 2 years. |
