Thanks all. Haven`t expected it. In a prologue maybe but in a short timetrial it was kind of surprising. Just 76TT and 80prl with Sanchez beating Contador with both >80.

The first real stage will be something for the sprinters. But it`s already quite hilly in comparison to the first stages of the Tour. We are not really sure about Rojas as he isn`t in top form yet. But we will see.

Wilson and Duggan are doing the pace. They are a bit supported by Astana for Davis probably.

Vanmarcke wins the mountain sprint ahead of Voss and Van Leijen and will wear the KoM jersey tomorrow.

After Lampre helped doing the pace with their whole team with 50km to go and 4min, we decided to relax a bit. Unfortunately I missed that their pace was just very short and so the time gap was again at 5min with 30km.
With that knowledge Van Leijen and Martinez attacked in the break.
Gregory Rast had a puncture in the worst moment and can`t fight for the win now. He will fall back into the peloton.

And the Vacansoleil rider takes the win ahead of Klemme and Martinez. He will also take the leader jersey.

About 3 min later Rojas wins the sprint of the peloton. What if this had been the fight for the win? Should have been much more concentrated ;(
This wasn`t really our plan to lose the jersey so fast.

Today there are some hills on the route. So we don`t know how good the sprinters will pass them. Especially the hill 20km in front of the finish line will be a tough climb for them.

Rosseler (RadioShack), Ignatiev (Katusha), Roux (FDJ), Langeveld (Rabobank) and Kuschynski (Liquigas) with an early attack.
Roux was already one of the most attacking riders during the Tour and obviously he continues his way to Voigt 2.0.
After a long persecution Ongarato (Vacansoleil), Santambrogio (BMC), Bazayev (Astana) and Vandborg (Liquigas) will join them.

Although they have 2 riders in the break, it`s mainly Liquigas doing the pace. With Gilbert and Sagan they have two good riders here.
Vacansoleil avoided to do the pace as they have Ongaroto in the grouo.

On the last hill it`s Gilbert and F.Schleck with an attack. Rojas is still in a good position, so Garmin is doing the pace on the last 50km but they can`t go too high as Rojas would fall back then like several other sprinters so far.

Unfortunately the pace wasn`t high enough and so the group except of Vandborg will take another early break win.

And again it`s Vacansoleil. Ongarato was the fastest sprinter in the end and celebrates a big victory.
Rojas again was the fastest in the peloton. Tomorrow we will definitely care for a mass sprint as Rojas is obviously the best sprinter in the Vuelta.

Indeed two very unlucky stages for us. But on the other hand sprints for the win are always much different than for the 8th.

This stage is extremely flat and shouldn`t be a problem for any sprinter. Also the chance for a successful breakaway is lower. Rojas is in a great form now and so we will take care for a sprint finish.

Many rider attacked today. Gueson (FDJ) and Kuschynski (Liquigas) might be the strongest.

With such a big group the peloton must be careful. So Vacansoleil and Garmin are doing a good pace to hold the advance always under 5 minutes.

With 20km the peloton is always there, when some riders tried it with a last desperate attack.

In the very fast last kilometers Rojas wasn`t able to get a good wheel and unfortunately Fischer and Maaskant aren`t there to help him. So there are still about 30 riders in front of him when the sprint begins. The conditions could be much better.

But with an great end speed he beats all other sprinters and takes a big win. In the right moment he found a gap to ride through and then he was behind the fastest rider while other fast man were a bit blocked.
Now we are definitely looking forward to the next stages as the first half of this Vuelta is qutie flat while there aren`t many chances on the second half.

The first half is quite flat but then it becomes more and more a hilly stage. Especially the final 12km will be very hard. We must be very concentrated today as there could be favourite attacks.
Especially Liquigas must be named today with Gilbert and Sagan they have two big bets here.

When the group was caught Rodriguez with an attack. He isn`t really a danger for the overall as he will struggle on the real mountains. Gilbert and Schleck are following him, second one is definitely a danger.

But no other rider was able to close the gap. So Gilbert wins ahead of Schleck and Rodriguez. They gained 20s to the other riders. So Frank can definitely live with his 2nd today. Sanchez, Kessiakoff and also Rojas did also very well today and took care for a top 10 result.

Thanks all. Gilbert and Rodriguez shouldn`t be such a big problem. Frank is a bother but he will lose time in the timetrial again.

Gilbert and Cancellara proved a good shape in August on the way to the worlds. But probably the road race doesn`t suit them too much as it is quite flat this year.
Also Cataldo was able to win again after his long injury.
2 races were cancelled due to financial problems. But they are quite sure that there will be an edition in 2012 as some possible sponsors already signalized.

Leopard and Liquigas with a close battle for the victory in this ranking. Garmin on 4 is definitely not a bad result for us.
Although Chainel showed a good performance in the Eneco Tour they are still the worst PT team. It will be very hard to improve for them in the last few races. Saxobank (former Cervelo) and surprisingly also Movistar are fighting for the last PT points. Both NetApp and Androni are looking good in the PT ranking but they won`t probably get a license as they were not successful enough in the Continental races.

Liquigas is leading quite dominant ahead of Leopard. We are actual on the 4th but with a successful Vuelta we have good chances for the 3rd.
Farnese Vini is on the best way into the ProTour while 3 teams are fighting for the 2nd slot.

Because of the Vuelta we just participate in the Tour of Britain and the two Canadian PT Races. So our riders should have an excellent form in the Worlds. While we want to win the Tour of Britain like last year we don`t have the biggest ambitions in Canada as it will be the first time we participate there and so we have to see how much is possible for us.
