That was a great ride by Bevin, finally fulfilling my hopes for breaks and KoM huntin. Not being able to stay with two +3mo riders is no shame, just too bad the gap didn't suffice to keep the GC riders from closing in.
5th is a good result nevertheless, and hopefully he has enough reserves for another attempt tomorrow to make use of those KoM points.
Alternatively, Hadi or Cavagna might like that stage from a break too. We don't need to protect a potential 25th place in the GC for Nerz anyway.

Olivier not doing very well here. Had higher expectations than 20th. |

So far we're on track to reach our target of 3 riders in top 30.

Thanks for the congrats, Saggiorato really salvaged our race here. Not sure how many mountain points are up for grabs in the MTT or if he'll be able to keep the jersey. Going to be hard to get over Amador's atrocious 8th place though.
Great reporting once again to Aquarius, the race has truly been fun to follow.

Quite happy and a controlled race, now we just need to not loose the jersey on the hills and then Rein can win the MTT

Not in the break and no splits among the favourites, so a very mediocre stage for us.
May be able to climb up to 9th in GC in the finishing TT, but in the end it looks like a race below our expectations.

Great job Kruijswijk! Nice second place in the stage and a big rise in GC.

Not going to lie, just happy we didn't loose anything big on this stage, bring on the Time Trial!

Superb race by Hirt so far, really promising start of the season for him. Also my team being active for breaks. Looking forward to the final stage now, hopefully it is going to be a decent day for Jan, a lot of points in question there...
Big thanks for reports, superb quality!

Happy that Nerz was shit before already, so the next drop down the GC doesn't matter that much in terms of points.
It's gonna be a tough situation with him, since it sure looks like I want to sell him, but he does need to give teams at least some incentive to buy him?
Bevin on the other hand seems to have listened to the manager and delivered another great ride! 4th in the KoM is good enough considering the opposition in those breaks, and 3rd and 5th in the two stages that he tried are amazing too.
However we can't afford infinitely to have to use good surprise results to make up for bad performances elsewhere, at some point we have to be consistent across the board and use those extra points to add beyond the expectations, not merely reach the expected pprd. Depth and breaks are a bonus, not a safeguard.

A pity we did not join this break then. At least there's some depth scoring by Dyball, Canty and Smith... Bayly down to 18th, Morton to 23rd just can't stop laughing (rather than crying, it's been a close decision though)
Guess we better expect a bad final stage, so yeah, this race won't help us at all. It's pretty obvious that we can't afford too many underperformances like this and avoiding relegation just became more difficult thanks to this truly disappointing Morton behaviour here. 84 MO... and he sits on 23rd with more than 10 minutes lost.. tsssss...

Lucky stage for us. Gesink could have gained valuable time on us, but Taramaae was very kind to chase him for us.
Congrats on the win, alex! The TT could be important but I'm confident Machado won't lose 1min to Gesink there.

It sucks so bad when you have a team perfectly suited for breakaways and then get nothing but a pathetic 30+40th result. Only positive is the obvious U25 jersey which was always going to happen unless some very unlucky circumstances said otherwise.
I have to hope for a good TT to make Chamorro and Vasyliv climb a couple of spots, but no matter what this is a bad race for us, even looking at who we sent.

Congratulations on the win, alexkr00!
For Guldhammer, it's super close in the GC from 4th to 8th, and unfortunately he seems to be favourite for 8th place. Would have been great if he can defend 6th in the MTT, but it feels very unlikely looking at the riders close to him. |

It's a shame that on the day Gesink seems to have legs to attack, the stage ends with so many kms of flat terrain. But at least I can not blame Gesink for not trying. The third place seems out of reach because I do not think I can get a minute back for Tiago.
For the last stage I would like to see Gesink finish with a win that would confirm the fourth place and maybe who will give the victory in the points classification.

Weird to see the same riders going in the break again. and thus getting to gain even more time for Top 20 GC positions.
Disappointing stage all in all, with the break denying a strong stage result, and Heymes unfortunately blowing a prime jersey opportunity.

A pity that Olivier did not join the breakaway as well at some point. This way losing more and more time and spots. 22nd surely not what I wanted from this race. Was hoping to see him fighting for some 10-12th spots but he was rather anonymous the whole race.
Groenewegen with the 1-2 here was important to score decent.
Can`t expect to gain big on the final mountain TT. Likely just tiny gaps anyway.
Thanks for the reports! Mainly followed from mobile only, but was a good read! |

Funny how Olivier`s best stage is in the end the mountain ITT, which normally did not suit him a lot. Either had lots of energy saved in comparison to others or simply a +3-5 day.
17th is like 5 positions lower but at least something. Better than 22nd surely.
Congrats heine for a dominant win as also SN for Schleck still having it.
Tenorio in 5th is promising for Desigual while Hirt in 6th is nice as first big race for Moser.
Amador down at 8 or Martin at 10 followed by 1-2 others with higher expectations surely need to do better elsewhere. Same obviously goes for Morton, who was simply crap here.
Thanks for the reports. Nice read as always. |

Thank you for the swift reporting, Aquarius97!
Nice surprise to see Guldhammer defend against Amador, and thus get 7th overall! Hopefully it's a sign of him being able to consistently punch slightly above his own weight in other stage races this season. We surely will need it, as there's quite some competition in the Giro for a top 8.
Also a very strong race by Hirt, which despite Taaramäe dominating and giving T-Mobile all the points in the world, makes it very difficult to believe any team other than Moser will win this year's Pro Tour. Both Hirt and Barguil has already proven they're great, and with Sagan and the dominating Bewley as well, they looks very, very difficult to beat.
But of course, the biggest congratulation goes to Heine. Taaramäe doing exactly what could be hoped for from his perspective. |

Thanks for the great reports and excuse me for not enjoying them at all
Horrible race and despite his ACC, it's simply not acceptable for Morton to finish 18th.. That's even worse than he did here as a MO 81 rider, iirc. Not sure on which drugs he was, but it's been definitely a wrong choice. A real pity that he got hit by PCM's random "one premium climber gives a sh** here" kinda bug. The accumulated minus daily form must have been impressive at least. Terrible. Not sure if we can ever recover from such a blow. Not looking forward to the Giro then..
Congrats to all those guys finishing ahead of us. The number is too big to name them all.
