Well, at least Stybar tried again.

Great TT by Kittel, 3rd was the best he could hope for and he made it.
That put Gastauer to within a minute of the Top 20. Hate to see the random splits as on the recent stage, really, particularly unfair on Van der Velde - but it worked out great for Gastauer, into the Top 20 already even before the hills.

Guarnieri once again proving to be the strongest, with great help from his team. He must really fancy the green jersey as well now, as just one hilly stage shouldn't mean too much for him, especially when the final stage is flat again.
And Maksimov with another second place. Clearly needs to get used to Maksimov getting those nice placings.
Solid sprinting from Kristoff to grab fifth, I'll definitely take that.
Thanks for the report and great pace, matt17br! |

That was a somewhat tame and anticlimatic final hilly stage. But well done to Cancellara for defending his overall lead.
Congratulations to Avin. It looks rather difficult to catch Metinvest-Dacia in the overall standings at this rate, as there's no hiding we're struggling in this race. Doubtful Kristoff can change that on the final stage, but another top 5 sprint would be great. |

Wow, what on Earth happened to Ginanni!?!?!
Congrats to Cancellara and Red Bull, I didn't think he'd have a hope of retaining the lead, so a great performance from him.
Well done to Ignatiev and Metinvest too, Metinvest have been awesome all season.

Jerome Coppel did exactly what I hoped from him. Unfortunately he wasn't strong enough to make it when Ignatiev attacked. That would have been great.
Tom David did about what was expected. He is much stronger than a lot of the riders that was just around him. I had hoped he could get ahead of Vanspeybrouck and Kluge aswell, as he should be stronger than those - But then again: I had no idea how this would pan out, and I would much rather take 7th and 15th than those top hilly guys going all out and claiming 7-8 minutes or something like that.
The final stage is all about surviving for us. We don't want stupid splits or crashes - Can we avoid that, this race has been great.

Not the most explosive final stage but great race for us, Gilbert riding very well behind an unsurprisingly dominant Cancellara. If it all stays nicely together on the final stage, it'll be a brilliant result

Happy happy day - brilliant defence by Fab on a rather limp hilly stage.
Still a commanding performance from Fab and just the final stage to see it through and a very welcome stage race win for the team.
Gilbert moving up to 2nd should seal Pendletons PT status for another year - I am suprised by this. Likewise Schumi's limp performance on this last stage probably seals UBS relegation.

Of course Schumacher can't sustain a good performance, how disappointing. That was a great ride by Cancellara though, and Gilbert is very impressive as well throughout the whole race. Thanks for the great reports and the nice pace!

This race is/was all about stage results and seizing the opportunities. Reasonable / as expected performances by Kennaugh, Viennet and Kamyshev, but also quite disappointing to miss out on the big break on stage 7.
Gotta say I always look forward to this race, though. Love the parcours |

Not much of a fan of how that stage played out in general, but from a Vesuvio point of view it worked out fairly well, with Gastauer amongst the best peloton puncheurs to move up to 13th in GC, and Van der Lijke moving up into the Top 20 too. And I have no idea how Kittel has ended up 26th!
Thanks for the great reports throughout the race matt, nice and detailed!

Great effort from Walsleben in a stage that definitely did not suit him.
Happy with winning the teams rankings for the second stage race in a row. The GC could have look better for us, but at least Sinkeldam is in the top 10.
Here's hoping nothing unpredictable happens in the last stage.

Well the TT didn't go very well. Definitely enjoying how active Zaini has been in this race, and a great result for Tatarinov, in fact both of our loanees on the last stage. As usual our strongest riders have not gotten us the results.

Loved those two stages. Thought Blythe was going to plummet out of the Top 10 GC, but the massive peloton saved me there. Great stuff.
And then, of course, further proof that I should always be allowed my lead out train. Perfect work by Blythe and Rowe once more.
Thanks for the reports, lots of photos too which makes it easy to keep track!

Last stage is up everyone! It was a great race to report, I'm pretty happy that the AI didn't f*ck up big time once again, especially considering the race profile. I was pretty worried, before playing the hilly stages, that they would be decisive in the bad, but especially in the Ardennes stage it was pretty much flawless.
It's still sad to see Van de Velde dropping out of the rankings in that way but on the upside, the sprints were flawless, Good Energy especially were a joy to follow.
Congratulations to Red Bull then, Cancellara proved himself a beast once again!

Thanks for a quick and well reported race, matt17br!
Not much to write home about for our team, when we failed on the cobbles it was always going to be difficult.
Congrats Smowz on a fabulous overall win, possibly the legend's final huge win? |

Had hoped for a better Visconti in stage seven, but of course his 3rd overall is extraordinary strong and very welcome! Burghardt failed in the key stage, but somehow still grabs a decent 11th place to complete a good GC for Oz. With one of the best TTT lineups and the best cobbled, I still had hopes for a stage-win though.. Well, it's not a winning season this time, so a podium for Visconti is just fine! He played his polyvalent skills to perfection here.
Thanks for the detailed reports! A great effort.

A very positive race for the team, our participation was not in vain.
1 stage victory and 4 top10 of stage, It is undoubtedly a good result taking into account our limitations for the GC.
Congrats Smowz and thanks for the great reports matt17br

Excellent end to the Tour with Roelandts in 3rd there.
Congrats again to Cancellara and Red Bull, always nice to see our old rider win
