Too bad Bazajev couldn't do more in that sprint, though we are represented well in the breakaways.

It's incredible work from Hirschlein, I'm happy to have him on loan, he's attacking "everywhere." I'll probably try to buy him off Roman
Too bad Vasquez lost a good minute in the sprint, but he somehow managed to keep 8th, which is great. Though, there's more of those tricky, hilly stages to come, and as said before, having him or Ortega in the top 15 at the end will be great.
I think I haven't said it before, but thanks for the reports, mb2612, they're really enjoyable, with that many pictures |

Team D2 rises in the team standings to 4th Place after Stage #8
Stage #7 the time trial had Logan Hutchings battle to 13th place and Izzie Nozal was 25th. While they both rode well, it was the unsung rides of the teams top three riders, all who are not strong tt men. Luis Felipe Laverde-Jiminez held his 11th place in the GC and that is HUGE. He now has a very good chance to finish this race in the top 10. Tareq Esmaeli dropped 4 places to 25th but lost very little time in his battle to reach the top 20 (and podium the Young Riders standings). Finally Ricardo Serrano held his 27th GC slot and he still has dreams of a top 20 finish. Three quarters of the race completed and three D2 riders still have hopes for top 20 finishes.
Stage #8 was a flat circuit that finished with a long climb. Today's breakaway rider was Logan Hutchings. The real break of the day did not form until well into the race. Hutchings picked up some Sprint points on his way and was challenging until the bitter end. When the pace rose in the last 3 kimometers, Hutchings could not respond and faded to 11th place. Another great showcase performance for team D2.
Luis Felipe Laverde-Jiminez continued to attack the best in the peleton, clearly showing that he is a strong climber even at the CT level. His pressing the attack helped him move up to 9th place in the GC. Tareq Esmaeli was again consistent staying with the top climbers. He finished the day in 23rd position but in the same time as the stage winner. In the GC standings he also crawled up 2 places from 25th to 23rd. Esmaeli's goal of a top 20 finish is still within reach. In the Young Ride competition he rode past Bjelkmark into 3rd place behind Stetina and Saldarraga. Riccardo Serrano finished 16thon the day, and moved up two GC slots from 27th to 25th. With more climbing coming Riccardo also still has a top 20 finish goal.
Team in 4th place, Laverde-Jiminez 9th in the GC and Esmaeli and Serrano both close to top 20 in the GC, Esmaeli 3rd in the Young rider category and a rider pressing hard everyday in the breakaway, Team D2 has to be thrilled with this race so far. |

It's been a pretty nice race for the D2 for sure and a top ten GC place with Laverde Jimenez would be a pretty fine achievement.
That said with four or five dangerous punchaers, a stage win would be something that would really ruffle the feathers as we see CTour teams doing often in the Protour.
Lovkvist did incredably well there to hang onto his GC ambitions. Though he was helped as the pack merged together in the finish, Emu whilst getting 2nd and 3rd were a touch unlucky not to make bigger GC gains. Credit to Hollister for halting that.

Really happy that Laverde Jimenez has broken into the top 10, he really is going to have to pull something out the bag to stay there. It is going to be an interesting second half of the race.

Nice to start picking up some points. Top 5 is one of my goals here so I am hoping nothing happens to Navarro towards the end. |

Team WWE still doing good, but yet another day without the win. Hopefully Paulinho does some magic and snatches the win...

Team D2 had thier first sluggish stage of the race. Guilliame Bonnafond jumped into the first breakaway and contested the 1st intermediate sprint, but the break fizzled and none of the D2 riders were able to join the later attacks.
On the day Tareq Esmaeli finished 19th in the same time as the winner, unfortunatelty that did not move him up in the GC he is still 23rd. Luis Filipe Laverde Jiminez finished 20th also in the same time, but he was able to edge up to 8th place in the GC. Both Laverde-Jiminez and Esmaeli are weak time trialers so they both need to build bigger cushions if they want to get top 10/20 finishes. Riccardo Serrano fishined the stage 26th and held his 25th GC spot. Logan Hutchings finished today in 31st position and in the same time. He is now 48th in the GC and only focused on the final day's time trial.
Izzie Nozal was 56th and 0'58 off the leader on stage #9 and 36 in the GC. Idan Shapira was 60nd and dropped to 42 in the GC. Bonnafond tried the early break but later dropped to the back and finished 66th on the day and is now 64th in the GC.
Team D2 slipped from 4th spoistion down to 7th in the team standings.
In the Young rider classification Tareq Esmaeli is still in 3rd position but he gained 0'58 on both of the riders ahead of him. Tareq is now just 0'05 behind 2nd place Saldarraga and 2'09 behind American rider Peter Stetina.
Stage #10 will be a long and possible decisive day for the D2 riders. The terrian is 119km with a long steady climb. Riccardo Serrano should be the best suited for the stage and in 25th place and over 11 minutes back it would be the perfect day for him to go for the breakaway. Laverde-Jiminez is I think will hope to grind out some time on the riders trying to push him back out of the top 10. Tareq Esmaeli has to see this day as his best chance to pass Saldaragga for 2nd place in the White Jersey race and even take time away from Stetina again.
On the other hand look for Logan Hutchings to save his legs and rest over the next two stages getting ready for the final day's time trial. |

Laverde Jimenez up another place, going really well so far for the team. Hopefully Laverde can gain some time to enable him to hold on in the time trial.
