@ tsmoha: I think that was my most frustrating PCM-moment ever... Within the last ~7 km, I was quite sure they would make it and was really euphoric. And then... Plus, this was maybe the best chance he will ever get this season, considering his upcoming races...

And again, here are the intermediate states of the rankings:

Barbosa and Duque are the dominating men in this ranking. You have experienced Duque's superiority in the Vuelta a Andalucia, so no wonder he is high in this ranking. Barbosa won both the Volta ao Algarve and the Trofeo Magaluf – Palmanova.

Oh, no, it was so close! Great ride by Dominik, can't believe it didn't happen for so little.
Anyway, good luck for the next races. Hopefully Dominik will continue being agressive, as now it'll only be PT races =)

@ lluuiiggii: Thank you. And yes, that was pretty much what I thought, too: I can't believe it... I guess he'll try it again and again, and maybe he'll succeed once

The next classic was on today, and it was at least a little cobbled. Therefore, the DS sent our usual cobbled team.
1.1 – Le Samyn
The field was rather weak today. Longo Borghini even belonged to the favorites today, along with the likes of Tom Veelers (Skil), Bert Scheirlinckx (Landbouwkredit) and Nico Eeckhout (An Post).
About 20km in front of the finish, Bert Scheirlinckx and Longo Borghini broke free from the peloton and managed to keep the advance until the finish. Longo Borghini attack again with 5km to go and created a little gap. Scheirlickx is the better sprinter and came closer and closer, but Paolo Longo Borghini held on and could celebrate his second career victory, the first since 2006!
Daniel Oss finished a great 7th, rounding off a great day for our team!
A great win for our 30 year old rider!
Result
1 Paolo Longo Borghini | Liquigas - Cannondale | 5h04'40 | 2 Bert Scheirlickx | Landbouwkredit | s.t. | 3 Kim Borry | An Post – Sean Kelly | + 41 |

IRL, Borghini hasn't done anything in cobblestones, so these races are far from realistic. Good win with him. |

Hello folks,
A part of my little insight into professional cycling is that I provide you with current transfer rumours that I here from.
Two top riders, whose contracts expire at the end of the year, seem to flirt with new teams:
Robert Gesink doesn't seem too happy in his Rabobank team. The strange thing is that the team he is suspected to be in negotiation with is the French AG2R La Mondiale equipe, which is not known to be one of the strongest. In contrary, it's the top favorite to be relegated into Continental Tour.
The other rumour is much more spectacular. Bjarne Riis, manager of the Danish Saxo Bank – Sungard team, is working on a sensational comeback: According to the grapevine in between the riders, Fränk Schleck isn't aversed to a transfer from the newly formed Leopard team back to Saxo Bank. But is he really willing to ride in a team without his brother Andy? Or will they proceed like the Klitschko brothers, who decided that they'll never box against each other? Well guys, we'll see.
In the meantime, Ivan Basso shall have rejected another, ameliorated offer from our team administration. I guess they'll have to look out for another Co-leader for next season...
So far for the gossip, the next post will be about cycling again: We currently have six men racing the Tour de Langkawi in Malaysia.
See you,
Dominik

1.1 – Strade Bianche
The Strade Bianche was on the schedule today. The Italian classic is famous for its long gravel passages, who suit cobbled riders. It's also a rather hilly race.
In the past, the race had prestigious winners like Fabian Cancellara or Philippe Gilbert, but this year, the field is very weak. Therefore, Le Samyn winner Paolo Longo Borghini belongs to the top favorites.
Other notable riders are Kevin Hulsmans (Donckers Koffie), Stijn Neirynck (Topsport Vlaanderen) or Giovanni Visconti (Farnese Vini), although the latter lacks of cobble abilities.
Daniel Oss did a lot of work today, and so he, Paolo Longo Borghini, Neirynck and Kevin de Ketele (both Topsport) leave the last cobbled passage as the leading group.
As both Belgians are better sprinters, Oss increased the speed again and Neirynck had to let go.
With 6km to go, Oss was completely empty, and de Ketele was still there. Longo Borghini attacked. First, the young Belgian countered, but he couldn't cope with the acceleration.
Oss finished third, in front of Stijn Neirynck and Giovanni Visconti.
Longo Borghini was unstoppable on the gravel and celebrated his second victory within 4 days!
Result
1 Paolo Longo Borghini | Liquigas - Cannondale | 5h52'48 | 2 Kenny De Ketele | Topsport Vlaanderen - Mercator | + 32 | 3 Daniel Oss | Liquigas - Cannondale | + 1'32 |

2.HC – Tour de Langkawi
Hi folks,
I'm really excited as I'm on my way to my first ProTour race this year: The race to the sun, Paris – Nice.
But before that, I'd like to tell you how the Tour de Langkawi went, that finished today. A squad around Vicenzo Nibali and Mauro Finetto participated there, and here's how they did:
The first four stages were all flat. Number one was surprisingly won by Michel Kreder (Garmin), who outsprinted Geoffroy Lequatre (RadioShack) and Mauro Finetto.
The second stage became a triumph for us: Mauro Finetto won the stage dominantly after a perfect lead out by Nibali and Elia Viviani. The latter held on great and managed to bring us a 1-2. Geoffroy Lequatre got himself another podium. Finetto was now the overall leader.
Mauro Finetto repeated his victory on stage 3, too. Elia Viviani ended up third, and overtook the young riders jersey. Yukiya Arashiro managed to slip inbetween our two men and secured a good result for Europcar.
Finetto continued his superiority on stage 4. With Nibali and Viviani as a lead out, he's pretty unstoppable. Arashiro and Geoffroy Lequatre proved to be the second best sprinters here in Malaysia.
The fifth stage is the only non-flat stage. Therefore, the GC will be decided today. The only rider who, at least on the paper, comes close to Vicenzo Nibali when it comes to climbing is the former Tour-champion and Geox leader Carlos Sastre. Other good climbers are John Gadret (AG2R) and Haimar Zubeldia (RadioShack).
Alessandro Vanotti went into an early break. On the bottom of the climb, they still had an advance of 2 minutes. As the last remaining escapee, Vanotti was caught within the last 5km. With 4km to go, Haimar Zubeldia attacked out of a group of 13. Sastre, Gadret and Nibali followed.
Nibali showed up to have the best legs. He attacked again and left the others behind. Valerio Agnoli was best of the rest, finishing 5th.
Returning to flat terrain, the procedure remained the same: Mauro Finetto outsprinted Yukiya Arashiro and the Brazilian champion Murilo Fischer (Garmin).
The last stage brought a little surprise: Mauro Finetto, though led out good again, was outsprinted by Murilo Fischer and came in second.
Nevertheless, this Tour de Langkawi was a big Liquigas domination.
Nibali celebrates his 3rd stage race victory this year.
General Classification
1 Vicenzo Nibali | Liquigas - Cannondale | 25h08'28 | 2 Haimar Zubeldia | Team RadioShack | + 34 | 3 John Gadret | AG2R La Mondiale | + 52 | 4 Carlos Sastre | Geox - TMC | + 56 | 5 Alberto Losada | Katusha Team | + 2'00 | . | Mountain Classification | 1 Vicenzo Nibali | Liquigas - Cannondale | 25 | . | Points Classification | 1 Mauro Finetto | Liquigas – Cannondale | 87 | . | Young Riders Classification | 1 Arkaitz Durán | Geox - TMC | 25h14'48 | . | Team Classification | 1 Liquigas - Cannondale | . | 75h30'38 |

Thanks all of you. Langkawi is allways easy if you go there with a rather good team. So I expected results like that.
And now, here's Dominik's first PT-race!

2.PT: Paris – Nice – Stage 1
Hello folks, and welcome to Dominik Nerz' first ProTour race this year.
The Liquigas administration focusses Tirreno – Adriatico, which takes place parallel, and thus sends a rather weak, but also rather strange team to France, including the five best sprinters, but not a single really good climber:
13:00: Jesus Herrada (Movistar) starts. The race to the sun is opened!
13:04: Davide Cimolai is the first Liquigas rider to start.
13:19: Jurgen Van Den Broeck, Omega Pharma's overall captain, finishes 16 seconds behind the current leader Damien Monier (Cofidis).
13:27: Top favorite Fabian Cancellara (Leopard) is on his way. On the intermediate time check, he is in the lead.
13:36: The Swiss takes the lead by 17 seconds.
13:40: Dominik Nerz' leaves the starting box...
13:43: … and comes in provisional 15th , 45 seconds down.
14:01: David Millar is still one of the best time trialists in the world. Let's see what he can do here.
14:13: He finishes provisional second, 11' down on Cancellara.
14:24: Tiziano Dall'Antonia is Liquigas' best time trialist here in France, he claims a provisional 19th place, 34' behind.
14:36: Samuel Sanchez is the top favorite for the overall. He finishes provisional 6th, 19' down.
14:41: Sébastien Joly (Saur – Sojasun) claims a surprisingly good fourth, 18 seconds behind Spartacus.
15:04: Denis Menchov is another favorite for the overall win. But he doesn't seem in good shape and finishes 20 seconds down.
15:07: Cadel Evans (BMC) seems to be in good shape. Provisional third for him, 14 seconds behind Cancellara, but still in front of every other overall contender.
15:11: Not every contender: Bradley Wiggins comes close to the leader and finishes only 7 seconds down.
15:25: The only one who might stop the Swiss victory is German champion Tony Martin (HTC)...
15:33: But no, he finishes only fourth. Cancellara's win is safe now.
Result
1 Fabian Cancellara | Leopard - Trek | 12'02 | 2 Bradley Wiggins | Sky ProCycling | + 7 | 3 David Millar | Team Garmin – Cervelo | + 11 | 4 Tony Martin | HTC – Highroad | + 13 | 5 Cadel Evans | BMC Racing Team | + 14 | … | 102 Dominik Nerz | Liquigas – Cannondale | + 45 |
Dominik's Comment
I guess that's just what ProTour is like. In my opinion, I didn't perform bad, nevertheless, I ended up only 102nd.
Not surprisingly, none of our team mates was able to compete for a good position. Here in France, we will try our luck in sprints and breakaways. I hope that I can get a chance there, too.
So far from me, I hope you'll enjoy the live ticker tomorrow again.
Dominik

2.PT: Paris – Nice – Stage 2
Welcome to the first flat stage of this year's Paris – Nice.
Km 12: Euskaltel controls the race and isn't willing to let anyone go.
Km 46: Tiziano Dall'Antonio gives it a try and follows an attack.
Km 62: Still no breakaway. Dall'Antonio and his companions are back in the pack.
Km 80: Frederik Willems (Omega Pharma) managed to sneak away and leads by about 2 minutes now.
Km 85: Dominik Nerz counters an attack of Thibault Pinot (FDJ). They try to bridge up to Willems.
Km 98: Those two broke free from the peloton, but are still about 35' behind another group of escapees: The classic specialists Leif Hoste (Katusha), Bjorn Leukemans (Vacansoleil) and Marcus Burghardt (BMC). Willems is still another 40 seconds in front.
Km 112: Pinot and Nerz are both climbers and can't compete with the rouleurs in front of them. The group of four leads with 4'45.
Km 127: Dominik Nerz is on his last legs now. He can't keep up with Pinot. The peloton is down by 2'30 on him but his advance is decreasing rapidly.
Km 140: Leopard is doing the pace now.
Km 163: Dominik Nerz is back in the pack.
Km 176: Dominik couldn't keep the pace for long. Together with the former leader Frederik Willems, he falls back.
Km 182: With 20km to go, Hoste and Burghardt are the last remaining escapees, but they lead by only half a minute.
Km 199: The sprint preparations begin and Jacopo Guarnieri is our man for the sprint. He follows Luca Paolini and the Rabobank train, but is allready pretty tired.
Km 202: Andre Greipel (Omega Pharma) wins the extremly tight sprint ahead of Tyler Farrar (Garmin) and Robbie McEwen.
The German top sprinter celebrates a nice victory.
Result
1 Andre Greipel | Omega Pharma - Lotto | 4h43'39 | 2 Tyler Farrar | Team Garmin – Cervelo | s.t. | 3 Robbie McEwen | Team RadioShack | s.t. | 4 Mark Cavendish | HTC – Highroad | s.t. | 5 Edvald Boasson Hagen | Sky ProCycling | s.t. | … | 183 Dominik Nerz | Liquigas – Cannondale | + 10'54 |
Dominik's comment
Phew. I either overestimated myself or underestimated the ProTour races. Or maybe both. The result basically says everything that is to say. I had to pay tribute to my early breakaway try and suffered a lot in the end.
Regarding our team, Jacopo Guarnieri unfortunately hadn't much energy left in the sprint, but his 11th isn't that bad.
I guess that I will keep calmer tomorrow and try to recover from today's efforts.
See you,
Dominik
