Ciolek finished 8th on stage 6 and that was the sprint I meant . Kristoff is by a long shot not an elite sprinter and will take him few seasons to get up there. Just was saying that Appollonio is closer to being with elite than Kristoff is at this point.
You do realize Ferrari also beat Appollonio on stage 2 right? To be honest, neither of these guys have beat any top sprinters on a day where they actually had a half-decent result. Almost any sprinter could beat Chicchi or Ciolek on a day off, and Ciolek haven't really showed alot in recent years either. Kristoff had an okay result in the Vattenfall Cyclassics last year where he also beat Bennati and Davis. They both have a long way to go to be considered an elite sprinter, and right as of now I wouldn't say either are better than the other based on their results.
Yea you absolutely right. Though one thing in mind is that Ferrari had a lead-out Farnese rider at the last 3km till the sprint. Appollonio was isolated and had nobody to help him on the last 4km from Sky.

Wow, really surprised about Gatto and Contador's attack. Let's see how he does tomorrow. As for Oscar Gatto, he's becoming an interesting rider in the hills and can do good results when Visconti is not in the best shape. |

Russell Downing 13th after leading out Appollonio - nice to see him get a decent placing in a stage.

Nice win for Gatto, he has been strong here at the Giro.

Menchov loses an important helper for the mountains:
DNF Fabio Andres Duarte Arevalo (Col) Geox-TMC

What do you mean with that? He couldn't follow Gatto, so I really doubt that he will be able to follow Nibali and Scarponi.

I know that you're Swedish, but use a bit of common sense, please.
You know - there's a bit of difference between flat road and the volcano that they're going to climb tomorrow. |

for @pelli...
You're missing the reasoning.
Contador and Gatto did not attack at exactly the same time. It makes no sense saying Contador could not follow him (uphill i assume). As it can't really be compared.

Bleed it out
In the wreckage of a job well done
I saw a place I'd never seen before, yeah
And that moment I refused to close my eyes anymore

Of course it is. I should have formulated my post in another way.

I think Contador will dominate this Giro and make it as boring as the last TDF's. I hope his team will suck, that would be our lucky escape as Girowatchers |

Well, I know you're Danish, but for once, what you're saying makes sense
I don't even have to answer, they already did
And even after Etna, things won't have irremediable consequences, there's still a big 3rd week to come

Well, Mørkøv and Klostergaard sucks, the spanish climbers doesn't seem to be in very good shape (except of Hernandez) and the only thing that Porte is able to in 2011 is to ride TT's. Gustov is good though.
But lets see tomorrow. It wouldn't surprise me if Navarro will help Contador at the last kilometres, but i have my doubt. I guess Lampre, Astana and Liquigas ar better in the mountains than Saxo Bank |

I am sure Contador will win but with difficulty. It seems too scared by its rivals and he is nervous. In my opinion, isn't in great condition. |

Excellent attack from Gatto and a surprise to see Bertie going after bonus seconds even at this early stage.
Should be an interesting stage in Sciliy tommorrow.
Scarponi is the wild card - he's in good shape right now - so I think he needs to try and do something.
What seems more likely to happen though is the favourites watch and wait for the 3rd week. |

Nibali has to have a go in the next stage - who wouldn't want to win their home stage and take the Pink Jersey there? I just don't think he has the climbing ability to drop Contador or Scarponi.

Oh yeah, finally I will get the chance to watch a stage live! So far, I've watched all (but stages 1 and 2) after downloading them by night, which meant I always missed whatever was posted in the Cycling forum. Not only that, but also tomorrow's stage is the Etna one, which (I hope) will be epic.
Scarponi ftw!

Somewhow I think the stage will pan out exactly like fenian wrote. Loads of favourites willl wait and watch. Though I expect very intresting battle for first between Nibali vs Scarponi.

So the last day for Weening in pink Hopefully Kruiswijk will ride well and keep Rabobank at the top.
Didn't see a lot of Menchov so far in this Giro, but I think he is the only one that can post a real threat for Contador. I just don't see Scarponi or Nibali beating Contador in the second or the third week.

Lo Squalo will have a go today, for sure. I'll be very disappointed if he doesn't try in home soil. And Scarponi is looking good, maybe even too good for this stage of the race, so he'll better try to gain time before the last week. |

I'm also very interested in seeing what Menchov can do. He has been completely invisible so far, but in this Giro, it's not exactly stupid to save as much energy as possible. Hopefully, he will be up there on Etna. |
