Yes, it isn't a strange thought, but i don't say something like this that way. If i would be sceptical, i would write, that i hope, that it will work, but that it will be hard to achieve, and not: "You're never going to make it...bla bla bla...and that PCM is an amazing game, that can't be beaten, can just be an opinion from a guy who just started playing. Seriously...PCM has a lot of bugs, a non-optimized engine, a sh*tty stage editor and no licenses...and still it costs around 40€.
I just play PCM, because there is nothing besides it. If there would be another game with a better gameplay, I would play this instead of PCM.
And btw: How many crew members does Cyanide have?
70, right? 70 - 10(Management) - 10(Support) - 10(Assistants) = 40
So let's take 40
40 guys, but wait...Cyanide evolves more than just one game per year...last year they made 6 games. So now we can take the 40 guys : 6 ....would be around 6.6...take 7...
7 guys working on this game for 0,75 years...
4.5 guys should be able to do it in 1.5 years...
3 guys in 1.75...
But thats just silly math...
The thing is...3 guys, listening to the community is much more important, than 7 guys(or take 40 if you want), listening not at the community...
Not too mention it is not like cyanide develops a whole new PCM every year....they just peddle the same shit every year with updates and every 4-5 years do a new engine. The primarily problem is they know they have bugs....but will only fix major ones on the next version...,they need some competition even if it is a clone just to make them try a bit harder!
Also look at the shit Cyanide has just released in Rugby Manager and Front Page Sports Football...BOTH utter and absolute shit. Hell, they could not even get the rules correct in their american football game. I am not sure where they are hiring people from but god they are getting some untalented people, or they just do not even care about feedback anymore. They were started to tap into steam, but if they cannot provide quality then they will fail in the long run as not even PCM can support there other failures when it starts losing customers because of their stupidity.

Because they hire untalented guys and do not care about feedback. And i bet those untalented guys have to work about 7h /day, but they are not focusing, because they just have to update the game....which should be done in 3-4 weeks of hard work. So i'm quite optimistic for this project, because, when you really live and breathe your project, you can almost create everything. And i think it could be possible, especially because those 3 guys have the community backing them up. So they just have to listen to us and the game will be great. But ofc, it will not be easy..

Long post on the future of the project incoming.
Its an entirely valid concern to raise the question whether or not 3 guys can create a product exceeding what Cyanide has build in 14 years Having worked on the project for most of the year i can definitely awknowledge that.
It should be no secret that the project was a product of my passion for cycling and my experience with PCM modding. I wanted this game so badly that when i felt i had the experience in 3D and Programming required i said "screw it, i am gonna do this"
While the current prototype is a step in the right direction i've ran into several issues on the way:
1) Keeping developers interested in a simulation of a sport they dont care about is impossible.
2) A game of this scale needs 3 things: strong community, funding, a lot of development ressources. We had overwhelmingly strong support, zero funding and only 1-2 guys wanting to do this.
3) Kickstarter has declined 50% this year, raising growing concerns that the "indie bubble" is about to burst.
4) Development is moving forward too slowly to realize the dream within an acceptable future.
5) How do you extract what was working in PCM without creating "just a clone"
The bad news
The sum of the above is a product that struggles to create its own identity and fails to deliver the quality gameplay everyone including myself wanted from this. This has become a solo-project - add 20 hours of work, full time education and personal issues to the mix and you have a scenario where the demands exceed the ressources available
Its the sad truth and one i refused to face after loosing sleep and working on this night after night. Even with the best game community in the world behind me i could not be a one-man army and create the product we all wanted. All of the above means development on the project as of October 2014 has ceased and project has been cancelled.
The good news
While its a personal defeat to axe your own project i try to look on the bright side:
Everyone originally involved in the project are back and united to tackle the future of darkshift studios. We will apply lessons learned from this project to our future projects so we can create the high quality games the players and community deserves. The future is bright and i cant wait to show whats next
The End
I apologize for creating anticipation for a product that never came to be, trust me i always had the best intentions for this to work out
that said i am the one and only to blame for this, my own enthusiasm was too high for my own good - causing dissappointment among you guys as a result. For that i am very sorry.
Cycling Manager Evolved is back on the drawing board and if i ever have the opportunity to create the product we all wanted i will never hesitate to take it.
This does however mean that my time with you guys and PCMDaily has come to an end. Having been part of the PCM community since 2003 i've always enjoyed working with you guys. From stages to Database packs to a new game - my time in here has been quite the journey. Hope to see some of you at Darkshiftstudios.com where you will always be welcome Thanks for your support - best of luck in the future and goodbye!

I am confident this will turn into something good: mostly new and innovative games i am just sorry i had to dissappoint so many people in the process.
Hopefully we can launch our first indie game in 2014 with a lot more to come in 2015 |

A real shame it had to end this way, but the reasons you said are very true.Though this didn't end up happening, I will continue to support Darkshift studios.
Unfortunately for you, that means I will be spamming Cafe Pablo to bits.

Not to be a prick, but I saw this happening right at the beginning, except I didn't post my cynicism blatantly. imo it was always too ambitious to make such a big jump, but maybe you will come back with something better!

I think we all knew that the likelyhood of this project being completed with such limited resources was very slim. Many of us, like myself, chose to be the optimist and give you guys the benefit of the doubt. There's absolutely no shame in its failure - to the contrary, I believe it was an outstanding attempt. You deserve an infinite number of internet kudos for at least trying and starting in the first place!
Don't give up on this dream, though. Perhaps sometime in the future you'll have the resources to go through with it. Good luck with the further development of DarkShift Studios and be sure to keep us updated with it.

In all honesty i was expecting this, but it's still a shame. You have raised a question for me though and that is why Kickstarters have declined 50%? How much of this funding decrease has shifted to competing platforms like Indiegogo, or to pure Early Access games available via Steam? Not expecting anyone to know but it might go looking for numbers at some point

On a more serious not it is very sad to see this project end, I wish you the best of luck in the future! |
