RadioShack - 2010 Tour de France

Nein! Paulinho finished outside the top-3! Sad I'll never come back to this story! :lol: (joking of course, even if I wanted to, I couldn't Pfft)

janne_837
@Roturn
Thanks Smile So far so good. Would be great if Popovych would be able to win the points classification, but he have to compete in the sprints to get a little advantage. Lance and Levi are still waiting for the more important stages...

@FreitasPCM
Sad Sorry.. I am really ashamed, it was already the second time that Paulinho did not finish on a podium spot... But he will also compete at the Tour de France, maybe there a Top3? :lol:

15. June
Tour de Suisse
Stage 4: Schwarzenburg - Wettingen, 192 km
img208.imageshack.us/img208/3964/tourdesuissestage4.jpg
A stage for the sprinters, or at least for sprinters which are able to hold contact on the hilly terrain. Should be another good one for Popovych..

Team goals:
Survive/Top 5 (Steegmans)
No time loss/Top 10 (Popovych)
No time loss (Armstrong, Leipheimer, Klöden)

Favourites:
André Greipel (SP 81, ACC 80, HIL 63)
Danilo Napolitano (SP 78, ACC 79, HIL 67)
Allan Davis (SP 79, ACC 82, HIL 71)
José Joaquin Rojas (SP 78, ACC 80, HIL 73)
Matthew Goss (SP 77, ACC 76, HIL 70)

My tip:
Danilo Napolitano already dominates the first bunch sprint here, which was after a similar profile...

lluuiiggii
Popovych felt great last stage =D

Bad you lost the top 3, but at least Sanchez deserved it =/

janne_837
Thanks Grin Popovych seems to be on fire (again a well performance on stage 4). Sánchez deserved it, but it is quite frustrating that he get third with only one very good ride Sad

Todays breakaway consists of 10 rider: Koldo Fernández (Euskaltel), Kurt-Asle Arvesen (Sky), Danilo Hondo (Lampre), Hayden Roulsten (Colombia), Manuel Cardoso (Footon), Yannick Talabordon (Saur), Manuel Quinziato (Liquigas), José Joaquin Rojas (Caisse), Kevin Ista (Cofidis), Jack Bobridge (Garmin). Many good sprinter which want to try to win in a break and not in a bunch sprint...

Some attacker in the front group, Arvesen, Quinziato and Bobridge, but it is already clear that they do not have a chance to get away again.

10km to go, no escapees anymore, time to prepare the mass sprint! Which sprinter are missing? Jurgen Roelandts from Omega Pharma, Gert Steegmans from RadioShack and all three from HTC-Colombia, Matthew Goss, Mark Renshaw and Mark Cavendish. The other are in the peloton and hoping for a good result...

3000m to the finish.
At the left we see Assan Bazayev as leadout for Allan Davis, Yaroslav Popovych at his backwheel. Next to Popovych we see Mauro Finetto, with Baden Cooke in his slipstream.

1000m left.
Mauro Finetto at the left, Baden Cooke and Borut Bozic in the middle of the road, at the right Maxim Iglinskiy, followed by Popovych, Thomas Voeckler and Daniele Pietropolli.

img153.imageshack.us/img153/5137/k2pcm0009.jpg
Finetto takes the stage win close ahead Daniele Pietropolli, who passed all except Finetto with an unbelievable acceleration at the last 800m, and Yaroslav Popovych (third podium after four stages). Danilo Napolitano had a very bad position, so only an eighth for the sicilian.

Another great result for RadioShack in Switzerland. It is confusing, Popovych beats rider like Bozic, Cooke or Napolitano in a bunch sprint Smile He even gain some time on Evans and Menchov and extend the lead in the points ranking.

Well, Steegmanns didn`t survive the hill, but therefore Popovych was great once more again.

Alakagom
Is Popovych at his peak right now ? He is doing fantasticlly well.

janne_837
@Roturn
I am not angry at Steegmans, Vaitkus and Rovny. They are peakng for the Vuelta, they are only competing because we need eight rider... (I know, bad management...)

@Alakagon
Only level 4/5 (92), the same shape as Lance. I really do not know whats up with him Grin Hopefully he can stay at this level...

Tour de Suisse
Stage 5: Wettingen - Frutigen, 160,9 km
img257.imageshack.us/img257/6049/tourdesuissestage5.jpg
Pretty similar to stage 3. Hilly terrain and a uphill finish, so too hard for the sprinters, but still not difficult enough for the GC contenders. A good chance for Popovych to gain some time with time bonifications.

Team goals:
- Top 10/No time loss (Popovych, Armstrong, Leipheimer, Klöden)

Favourites:
Cadel Evans (HIL 81, RES 79, STA 76)
Alberto Contador (HIL 79, RES 79, STA 75)
Andy Schleck (HIL 81, RES 78, STA 81)
Fränk Schleck (HIL 81, RES 74, STA 78)
Denis Menchov (HIL 77, RES 77, STA 75)

My tip:
Cadel Evans was already the strongest at the uphillsprint at stage 3, and there is no reason why he should not win today, too.

Wow, Popo is really strong! Podium in sprint stage Pfft

Alakagom
Hopefully another podium Smile

img402.imageshack.us/img402/4479/k2pcm0003.jpg
With 55km to go, Martijn Maaskant attacked. Seems that he wants to join the breakaway.

While Buts and Voeckler reached the top, several favourites attacked the peloton. It was quite confusing, but you can see which rider give it a try at the following table. We decided not to attack, but we set a high pace in the peloton for hunting the other favourites.

Almost a new leader jersey Shock Probably the last time that we will see our rider on a 4th and 5th. Tomorrow the only mountain stage of this years edition, luckily no mountain top finish, but we will need luck to defend this.

Thank you guys Smile We'll need it...

17. June
Tour de Suisse
Stage 6: Meiringen - La Punt, 205,2 km
img200.imageshack.us/img200/2503/tourdesuissestage6.jpg
The queens stage and the only real mountain stage this year. 3 long and hard climbs today, called Sustenpass, Oberalppass and Albulapass. The first both are probably to early, so the decision will fall at the Albulapass, though there are still 13 kilometer to the finish...

Team goals:
- No time loss / Attack if possible (Armstrong, Popovych, Leipheimer, Klöden)

Favourites:
Alberto Contador (MO 83, RES 79, STA 75)
Cadel Evans (MO 80, RES 79, STA 76)
Andy Schleck (MO 82, RES 78, STA 76)
Denis Menchov (MO 81, RES 77, STA 75)
Lance Armstrong (MO 78, RES 78, STA 76)

My tip:
Cadel Evans looked strong at the last stages, his shape has to be amazing (but BMC does not get a wildcard for Le Tour Pfft). I think he will win today.

Tuco the Ugly
Looking forward to this stage. Hopefully Cadel and Menchov slip up.

Thanks Tuco Smile Was an intersting stage to play:

Sustenpass.
Iban Mayoz (Footon) and Jonathan Hivert (Saur) in front. David Loosli (Lampre) was another escapee, but was not able to hold contact with Mayoz and Hivert. René Mandri (AG2R) attacked later and try to join to the breakaway.

Oberalppass.
No changes. Between the two mountains, David Loosli was able to come back into the front group, but he falled back again at this mountain.

With 87km to go, David Arroyo pulled away, followed by Branislau Samoila and David Moncoutié. They are no threats for the overall, so the peloton let them go.

It seems that the stage win will go to one of the breakaway rider...

At the start of the climb, Moncoutié, Arroyo and Samoilau pass the exhausted Hivert and Mayoz. And with 20km to the finish, Moncoutié accelerated! Unfortunately he did not get away, Samoilau and Arroyo set a high pace and caught him soon.

Whats happening in the peloton? Our rider gone to the front to thin out the group. As you can, dot with 62% was already enough to go to the front and destroy the weak climber...
Arroyo, Samoilau, Moncoutié;
+59" Hivert;
+2'11" Mayoz;
+5'28" Peloton

Jurgen Van den Broeck and Roman Kreuziger attacked with 18km to go, but were not able to create a bigger gap than 30 seconds and were caught soon.

img194.imageshack.us/img194/5046/k2pcm0008.jpg
First serious movements here: Almost all favourites accelerated: Alberto Contador, Denis Menchov, Cadel Evans, Andy Schleck... We did not change our tactic, we stayed in front of the "peloton" and try to catch them again. Well, Schleck, Menchov and Evans were caught, Contador not. Even after his attack, he continued to gain time...
Samoilau;
+18" Arroyo, Moncoutié;
+2'04" Hivert;
+3'28" Contador;
+3'47" Menchov, Evans;
+4'05" Peloton.

The top of the Albulapass.
Branislau Samoilau seems to be the strongest one in the breakaway, while Moncoutié and Arroyo slowed down...
Samoilau;
+46" Arroyo, Moncoutié;
+1'35" Contador;
+2'35" A.Schleck, Evans, Armstrong, Popovych, Menchov, Kreuziger, Basso, Van den Broeck;
+2'55" Hivert, Leipheimer;
+3'07" F.Schleck;
+3'25" De Weert, Efimkin, Martin, Klöden;
+4'20" Group Sastre-Hesjedal-Monfort.

Spoiler
Branislau Samoilau (QuickStep) 20

Alberto Contador (Astana) 6
Lance Armstrong (RadioShack) 4

A deserved victory for Samoilau. No doubt that he was the strongest from the escapees.

img534.imageshack.us/img534/5613/k2pcm0011.jpg
THis monster called "El Pistolero" even passed Moncoutié and Arroyo (which finished 3rd and 4th, same time as Contador) and finished second (+29"Wink

img267.imageshack.us/img267/9766/k2pcm0012.jpg
Andy Schleck wins the sprint for 5th ahead of Yaroslav Popovych and Lance Armstrong (as you can see, Popo was ahead of Andy, but the game didnt care), 2 minutes behind winner Samoilau. Levi Leipheimer crossed the line as 13th.

img146.imageshack.us/img146/5125/k2pcm0013y.jpg
A bad day for Andreas Klöden, he even lost contact to Group Fränk Schleck and finished 18th. As you can see on the screenshot, he was clearly behind, but he got the same time as Andy Schleck.

ALBERTO CONTADOR IS BACK Sad After a really poor Tour of California, he showed his true power today... Some surprises today (Tony Martin, who was always able to keep up with Group Armstrong or again Yaroslav Popovych who was the strongest from TheShack today). Thanks to the gap system, even Klödi did not lost time on most of the favourites, only on Contador...
