Romain Bardet will be leaving Ag2r la Mondiale and apparently Pierre Latour as well

That certainly is news, Ag2r clearly must think that Bardet is finished as a GT rider and they probably want a leader that can now aim higher than the KOM competition and mtn stages. Bardet imo should concentrate on classics as he showed a few years ago that he might be better suited to those now and interesting to see where he goes.

In the report I just saw it said Latour is staying and expected to be their new GT leader which seems like a risk.

I think that's how they try to convince Latour. With Bardet though he is the one that took the initiative, he wants to leave to give his career some new fire (and I've heard he doesn't want to focus as much on french races as he has to as the GC leader of a French Team). Rumours link him strongest to Sunweb, but I can't see that link working well. With Miguel Angel Lopez being linked to Bora in rumours I could see Bardet ending up joining Astana and share GC leadership there with Vlasov and possibly Fuglsang (if he doesn't get bought out of his contract by Riis, who seems determined to find a danish main sponsor for NTT; Fuglsang said in an interview he'd like to do the Grand Depart in Copenhagen as the leader of a danish team).

I will only believe it as soon as the race starts, hopefully no major predicaments will happen during this week and we can have an exciting race.

I said at the start of the month that I can't see the revised calendar being completed.

They will get to the end of August/September and Covid cases will start to increase in the damper/cooler conditions with the easing of lock down restrictions across Europe. Many countries will be forced into some form of lock down again in the Autumn/Winter and many of the races on the calendar will end up simply cancelled.

I will be amazed if the Tour, Giro and Vuelta all go ahead and are completed.

As negative and depressing as this sounds, I pretty much agree with this and they should've actually attempted to have started the season about a month earlier because when we start going more into autumn the cases will probably grow and panic will again grip countries and events will get cancelled. Also the summer in some places has not been as good as previous years with cooler than normal temperatures but I hope that we at least get one GT.

As I mentioned in the other thread I believe GVA is the most probable name

I mean mostly for GC, I don't see other solid solutions inside the team, neither I don't see AG2r building a Quick-Step type team

Ag2r have already got a pretty strong classics team already and the trend started some years ago when VDB went there and have some decent flat/cobble riders in the team and by adding GVA to lead with Naesen they would certainly have a strong team, might not be to the same level as QS but still strong enough.

I missed this yesterday. Could it be a move away from traditional sponsor names and a move towards American Style team names

For sure they strengthened classics team, but imo they won't lose all GT ambitions, that's why I'm curious to see who will their leader in 2021

The cancellations have started already.

I guess it was always going to be a long shot to have a race in Canada. I can't see many riders wanting to travel to Canada for two days racing. Probably better to keep all racing in Europe at least.

I think for a year at least they'll try to postpone any GC ambitions in GT's they won't have the team for it. Cosnefroy, Peters, Naesen (maybe another big name) are great stage hunters that could very well net some wins in those big races, whilst focusing on the French calendar and the cobbles.

Ag2r will be co-sponsored by Citroen from 2021 and will change its naming for the first time in a decade. Curious to see if this will also affect their jersey.

Milan San Remo to be run with 6 riders / team only to allow Bardiani and Androni into the race as well.

Very controversial late change clearly just couple days before the race starts.

It`s 6 wildcards now and RCS cleary could have done smarter by giving them to Italian teams only in first hand...instead of such late change, which now drastically impacts season planning/tactics as well for many.

Partially agree. Wildcards were given before the Pandemic. Guess the Italian sponsors want every visibility they can get now.
MSR get sponsored by Lauretana a major partner of Androni
RCS get sponsored by CSF Group.

That's at least a bigger break of 2 riders I guess and less easier to control the race which should suit puncher types more
