That's great signing for Trek, I loved him in last two seasons, huge talent and surelly good improvement for GT

Definitely. I hope he can deliver something nice Smile
Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth.

Nizzolo to Dimension Data and Dion Smith to Mitchelton are the latest moves. Quite nice to see the Kiwi move further up to the World Tour, can become an interesting asset to the team.

moromete
I quite liked Nizzolo, even if he never delivered too much at Trek, the team basically has no classical sprinter at the moment, unless I missed something. I suppose Stuyven or Poppel can sprint but neither is world class.

df_Trek
Degenkolb should be main sprinter of Trek, but we all know his recent years...Van Poppel isn't a sprinter anymore since many years, btw isn't confirmed yet for 2019, still Reijnen but c'mon...

FreitasPCM
Trek have signed Matteo Moschetti to give some more depth to their sprinting field, though he's still a concept of a rider, in development, 22 years old and about to make his debut amongst the pros. They do lack someone consistent and reliable on those super fast finishes. Degenkolb has lost some momentum.

Hope Smith can do his own thing occasionally at Mitchelton, but also with riders such as Trentin onboard it should be a chance to be a great domestique, a very cool learning experience and a chance to be a part of a top team. So glad he's made it to the WT, he's certainly earned it Grin

UCI will reportedly add a new stage race in Israel (presumably called Tour of Israel) starting from next year. It will be held at the end of April, clashing with some important Giro prep races.

TheManxMissile
UCI Management Commitee and the Professional Cycling Council have confirmed their reform plans for mens road cycling.
https://www.uci.org/inside-uci/press-r...ad-cycling

Mostly ideas already known and confirmed in previous years, but with new names:
PCT becomes ProSeries in 2020, which will be a mix of HC and .1 events in a year long series.
From 2020 the World Tour combines most it's events into the UCI Classics Series. This will be the 3 GT's, 5 Monuments, and most stage and one-day races for 185 racing days. All Classics Series events are guaranteed for three years. Details on which WT races won't be included are not known.
Keeping 18 WT teams of 27-30 riders. Unlimited ProTeams (rename of PCT) and Continental Teams.
From 2019 only the UCI World Ranking will be counted, the WorldTour Ranking will not exist. World Ranking includes all WorldTour, ProSeries and Continental racing. World Ranking for Teams will be taken of the 10 best riders.
All WT teams are subject to licence reviews every three years, same as currently happens and same criteria.

Major change, the top2 ProTeams are guaranteed entry to all three GT's! The top3 ProTeams are guaranteed entry to all Classics Series and other WT events. Remaining wildcards are up to race organisers. The ProTeams can decline entry.

Full implementation of reforms is 1st January 2020. Some changes begin next season, with details being finalised through the year.

Hmmmm on one hand I like wildcards based on merit. On the other hand PCT teams are almost always geared towards one discipline or another, and so having them at all classics and GT's basically just adds pack fodder for at least half of those I reckon.

Also, ProSeries is a stupid and confusing name. Pfft

I expect the organisers (RCS/ASO/Flanders) will put a recomendation to some teams to decline their invite, so they can bring in who they want. Don't really think this change will mean anything in reality. If a team doesn't want to do a race because they don't suit it, they just won't go. Then the organisers will bring in the usual names.

A more interesting change would have been the Promotion/Relegation reform Cookson was pushing for. Then the guaranteed entry would have been interesting, making sure a relegated team can still get to big races and maintain a level of sponsorship.
As it is with a guaranteed WT of 18 there's still no incentive for a PCT team to push hard to become better. It almost feels like a response to someone like Aqua Blue who bitched they couldn't get invites, not that Aqua Blue were a top3 PCT team anyway...

I disagree. Even if a team is completely useless, a PCT sponsor will want to be in the race if they can because it's simply a larger audience and hence more exposure to have their jersey shown in the pack. I don't think they'd reject an invite.

Start getting hyped for the 2019 Worlds! Lots of new awesome stuff happening next year.

Para-cycling to be run in the same week, taking place on the opening Saturday.
Team Time Trial Mixed Relay - an all new event where a 3-man team does a lap, then when they finish a 3-woman team does their lap, fastest combined time wins. Holy sh*t am i f*cking excited for this one!!!
Then the usual set of Junior, U23 and Elite races.

The Worlds will be primarily based around Harrogate on what they describe as "undulated, not hilly" roads. Although anyone who's been to the area will tell you these are hard, sapping roads and are still pretty steep. But it does make Sagan the early favourite with routes favouring strong men over climbers or sprinters.

Flanders will host the 2021 World Championships, the 100th edition. Sadly, they selected Antwerp and Leuven as the start and finishing city, so it's not really the historic Flanders and we'll miss out on the famous cobbled climbs. The local laps around Leuven will most likely not be too selective, expect a final like Brabantse Pijl or GP Jef Scherens. This really has Sagan written all over it.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

TheManxMissile
Interesting they've announced 2021 but we still have not got a confirmed host for 2020 (i've heard rumors of Vicenza and Groningen but can't find any announcement).

I like the difference in location to the main Flanders classics we get in the spring, mostly because we get those every spring with the top riders. Makes for something a little different, as i for one don't watch Brabatse or Jef Scherens on TV
