While the result is good for us, unfortunately the PCM AI cannot deal with having multiple types of team leaders. So because this was determined to be a puncheurs race overall by the AI, that leads all of the cobblers to simply be set out as supports for the entire race. The only way this was going to be a demonstration by a cobbles rider is if he also was a GC favorite on the hills.

the thing is: the first 70 kilometers the race was straight awesome...riders falling out here and there, and I was almost sure I lose my control riders on the stage...but the longer the race went the slower was the pace...
Interesting ! should look into 120-140 km cob/hills maybe ?

When I saw Flaksis in the break I thought that he had recovered from his s1 crash.. But nope.. And Rinner also was destroyed, oh well
Congratz to WCC for the maybe expected successful break, and it was once again a cobbled anti-climax.. I know next season I have to get a sprinter who can do the cobbles at least minimally

I don't know about all of you, but I was pretty excited every time I saw Vichot hadn't been dropped yet. That he lasted the whole stage and finished 6th is a minor miracle but like Kentauras said, the AI must have a large part to play.
Thanks for the reports Croatia and congrats to Scorchio. Looking forward to the next stage, as that's where I hope Vichot can stay with the favourites and take the GC crown.

I'm not sure how to react to this race to be honest. Incredible to have Kreder still in the lead with two stages to go. Can we really start hoping that he'll hang on in the hills up next? Probably not. Also incredible how Drucker and Per controlled the pace from the start on this stage. A nice moment at the start with the rookie of the year from last season and arguably the one from this season teaming to do some damage. Per and Jams attacking together would've been the icing on the cake. With almost no support later on, I don't blame our guys for tiring out and not being able to catch the break. Most incredible from this stage is that Allegaert our Stagiare picks up a point in his first race after finishing in 8th, despite having helped in the pace-making for a lot of the stage.
Can't help but go back to wondering where Drucker would've been had he not crashed on Stage 2. All eyes on Kreder and Wyss for the next two stages I guess.
Congrats Scorchio on the win and thanks for the report Croatia .
Edit: I also don't buy the punchers would've dominated bit as PCM itself has picked the cobblers and the hybrids as favourites for the stage. If the big cobbles guys hadn't already lost time, we'd have seen a whole different stage.

Erm... what? Great work by us yesterday I guess, and thankfully today Roux hung tight. Fingers crossed for a team assault tomorrow a la San Luis - a win here is a fantastic boost to promo and individual title chances!

Agreed on both counts - Jams and Per men of the race <3 Jams clearly just made this stage have some bad AI by dropping them all - and saving our GC hopes. If Roux messes this golden opportunity up... I know my rider of the month <3

Once again, it is not Eastman or Chaves bringing in the glory for Azteca, but a support rider free to do his own thing in a race without any of my team leaders getting a victory, and what should hopefully be a GC win. Looks like he was feeling pretty good all race with an earlier counter attack, and then the best legs left on the final climb.

That sucked. Roux failed, everyone failed, Jams got dropped. A golden opportunity completely squandered Hope for at least a stage podium tomorrow from the break.

I didn't think Kreder would've been able to stay in touch on that stage. A shame we lose the jersey but it's probably better now to have someone else do the chasing. The win is still not out of reach but it looks unlikely that the breakaway will be caught on the final stage after this grueling race.
Congrats to Azteca on the win! Thanks Croatia

First line of racing in the report... Crash of Gilbert... Not hard to imagine that he would suck later to drop to 20th in GC. Nice try for Kneisky, but this wasn't the stage he should do it, it's S6.
So Azteca, Reddit and Goldcorp scoring big...
Thanks for the reports Croatia!

Wooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!
So happy having two riders is finally paying off in the hills, we did the same in the mountains but Simon never performed as well as Monfort before. This should be well over 150 points for us already! Looking forward to see if our sprinters will get a chance in stage 6 as well
Grats on the win Kentaurus! Though in this race I guess I shouldn't cheer too early... |

Odds are the last stage will go to the breakaway... Azteca can't really chase, we only brought 6 riders to this event. Obviously Squire won't be chasing, and he should have at least one guy protecting him. That only leaves us with 4 to deal with a breakaway. Sprinters teams gonnna have to do the work if they want some fun.

Thanks for the reports Croatia
I think it was a nice one to follow, even though we did not do that much.
Would be cool with more time dif on the hill/cob but otherwise fine race.
Hope for some breakaway points on that last stage.
Congrat's to those making it big here.

What a shame that Vichot didn't pick up any gaps in stage 3
Gone from 3rd to 7th after finishing 5th on a stage! Hopefully Hochmann can pick up a win in the final stage, otherwise it'll be a disappointment in the GC.
Congrats to Vien, Kentauras and whitejersey, among others with depth in the GC classification.

Oh no, what a terrible crash... But it's our first of the season, so I guess I'm still okay with it happening. Hope he'll be fit in time for Canada.
What a rollercoaster of a stage race this was though. From expecting a victory to a massive failure, then back to an amazing race for us and ending up being alright in the end.
Grats to Kentaurus and especially Abhishek for another big race for Philips, and I'm looking forward to see y'all in Canada. Thanks Croatia for the reports - despite the AI being weird at times, this was an amazing race! |

Feel sorry for the crash victims there, and a shame Kreder couldn't win.
For us this race was massive missed opportunity given how it played out, but I guess I'll take 7th, 10th and 13th considering how badly it could have gone - and hopefully close to leading the battle for fifth since I guess Philips are opening up a big lead for fourth. Thanks Croatia for the reports, loved them
