What new rule? Are U23 riders at WT teams finally allowed to race U23 WC?

I'm convinced now, Ganna first yellow jersey of the 2021 Tour. Doubt he'll ride this Vuelta though.
Also, have I mentioned that Laporte will win the green jersey?

They are since last year. Only Bohli, Baska and Kudus took the opportunity though, and it's far from an universally appreciated rule.

2021 will be the year Tejay puts it together
In all seriousness I think that guys like Dumoulin, Aru, Yates bros, Bardet will be hitting their peaks at this time and they will be the types of guys taking yellow. |

I think we have an appropriate thread to discuss current and soon-to-be GT contenders, the Next GT winner-one. This one is for high potentials, no older than 22 in 2017. Maybe Tour preview should have been named 2027 to be more clear on that. It is mostly just to track progress on the youngsters, as Riis has explained previously. Riders like Yates, Bardet etc get discussed enough in regular threads anyway, this one is for borderless, unjustified hype and the potential second comings of Merckx and Pantani.

Sam Oomen sits at 14th after stage 11 of Vuelta. Looks good for him to be the first of the future greats to get a Top 20 GT result and that as a domestique

Bernal did good winning the Avenir when Gaudu wasn't there.

Can't beat those who don't turn up. But Sivakov had a bad day and Gaudu chose not to race for whatever reason, still his stage win on stage 7, I think, was insane, I doubt anyone could have held his wheel. |

Well to be fair, Oomen isn't really on any domestique duties as the now second best Sunweb climber. Kudos to him though nevertheless, great ride so far.
On that topic, Kämna still was in the 30-odd peloton at the foot of the last climb today, and that as an ACTUAL domestique with daily water carrier and slipstream duties and his main focus on the TT.

Gaudu won Avenir last year. I've never seen (in Avenir current format, with only U23 riders) a rider who won Avenir race it the next year.
I wouldn't be surprised if there was a rule about not allowing former winners to race

With Oomen out of Vuelta, we will have to wait another year for the young and high potentials to get a Top 20 placing in a GT
