Why do they not consider Cofidis for WT?
They already ride two GTs every year, they got a large roster as well and recently did some very good signings including one of the current top sprinters.
Is it based on nationality? There are already two French teams in WT... |

I read somewhere (can't remember where) that Cofidis have ruled themselves out as they only have 24 riders and think that would be too few to sustain a world tour team.
MTN have 22 and would consider it as they think they can get extra funding from their sponsors for going up to the world tour level but it seems Cofidis aren't as confident.

Probably spent too much budget on Bouhanni. ^^
Indeed, they let ten riders go and "only" signed nine. |

Westra on Iglinskiy's positive.
https://www.cyclin...nds-astana
Quotes from the article:
Westra said that when the first doping positive of Valentin Iglinskiy was announced, it was not a disaster. "He had only been given a place in the team on a wager because his brother won a race. Maxim is a great rider. He once won Liège - Bastogne - Liège and was this year in the team where we helped Nibali to the Tour victory.
"However, he surprised me in France. All season I had seen nothing else behind his name in results other than Did Not Finish [Iglinskiy dropped out of the Tour of Oman, Pais Vasco, Milan-Sanremo and the Tour de Suisse], but in the Tour he was suddenly making us hurt. He was not with the other eight team members in the preparatory training camps. There I saw the other guys who were better, but that is also quite logical if you are training at altitude."
Westra defended the Astana team, saying he was "sure this doping was not organised by Astana, but by those guys themselves," and regretted the team now being shown in a bad light.
He admitted to taking recreational drugs before becoming a cyclist, but said that these days it's all just vitamins and nothing illegal.
"Today I get my kicks from other things - winning the yellow jersey with Nibali example. Or remembering the cobblestones stage of the Tour where I was perhaps the strongest of the entire field. Actually it was Astana kicking from beginning to end, the entire season."
So he came in the Tour with sudden great form after being disastrous through the entire season and while not taking part in any of the training camps prior to the TdF. Reminds me how he came out of nowhere when he won L-B-L. Nibali should get that victory IMO. |

Schleck has confirmed his retirement in his press conference. He had tears in his eyes.

Frankly this shouldn't be classed as news. But i was surprised at his emotion, and like it or not he was a great climber and his TDF record is to be envyed

Andy Schleck is too young to be retiring. But anyway since the crash he was never the same again, really career ending crash for him. And I respect his decision. I know he has officially won TdF but wished I'd see him at champs elysees in yellow.

I think the crash was only part of it. He had some serious things that really side-tracked him:
1) The whole series of crashes.
2) Frank's positive. With Frank banned there was no way in hell Andy was going to do anything.
3) The two times he was caught drunk and the media stuff that followed that.
Now the first two aren't his fault, obviously, though you could argue that he probably knew what Frank was doing the whole time. The third one though probably raises the biggest issue with his crash and the major reason (beyond an inability to TT) that he would never end up winning was his attitude to the sport. He didn't want to do anything except win the TDF. The two drunken situations show both a lack of dedication to his sport and training and, perhaps, also a descent into alcoholism.

Andy was a disgrace to a professional sport. An example which should not be followed...

Kind of a sad day for someone who was emerging at the forefront when I really got into cycling to retire so young.

I hope you refer to 2012 and onwards because before he was'nt exactly what I would call a disgrace. |

Andy Schleck though was the only one who really fought Contador. Without him probably the GTs would have been way more boring. Though I'm happy, now we don't need him anymore

LOL, a classic!
In other news, UCI plays Cpt.Obvious and smells something fishy in Astana.

Maybe someone could replace them? But i doubt some real actions will be done against them, maybe just some exception to licence, in case of new cases next year?
Also this does not give much credibility to Tour win of Nibali. At least in eyes of those, who does not follow cycling so much, because those who do, know what kind of person Vino is.
