I love the speed of this GC
Though I had hoped for a stage win from Pozatto in one of these stages, I can't really complain. Sella seems unhurt and Pozatto is up there in the sprints. Hopefully he will be able to win one later

Keukeleire decided to sit up unfortunately. Being top 10 sprinter in the race he really should try, when he gets a chance.

Stage 6 will be vital for Tinkoff/Trofimov for the rest of the race, after this mountain stage there is a week of Hill/Flat/Hill/ITT/Flat/Flat/Hill before returning to the mountains:
*Trofimov will continue his GC ambitions if he manage to hold on to the leader's jersey tomorrow or at least be close to the main contenders.
*If not the 2nd week focus for Trofimov will probably be Point Jersey and Stage win(s) and Mountain Jersey for the rest of the team.

That was close! Pity that Degenkolb let Trofimov place right after Impey, otherwise he would probably win. Congrats to ember, stage win on GT is always amazing!

That's better. 13th isn't total visibility but it's a start compared to our poor showings so far here.
One day Impey will be mine. Great rider. |

Gomez Merchants did just like I had hoped. Entering top20.
Couldn't ask for much more.
Good that Ricco is not injured from a neutral view.
Thanks for the report. Always a pleasure to read |

What an awesome stage for Jose who has been near the front on every occasion. Suspect he may fade as gt continues, but his chances of a top five are boosted after this great performance.

That stage win by Impey and the whole team on stage 5 was a true pleasure to read about. That's a first seeing how we took control on the final kilometers to put Impey in the perfect position. Just brilliant, our Giro is already a success.
I do hope we can be a bit more aggressive on the mountain and hilly stages though, trying to get into breakaways, as Antón isn't going to be anywhere near a stage result if he sits and waits for the big guns.
A very disappointing Madrazo on stage six. Three minutes to Pluchkin at this point feels like three minutes too much. Nice to see Cunego delivering on home soil, which goes for Ricco as well. Dombrowski is deifnitely the surprise so far, and it looks to become a brilliant Giro for Pendleton's with him being up there as well as Martin.
And thanks for the reports, SN. I've truly enjoyed not only Impey's stage win, but also all the others, and especially the mountain stages. It's always something special when they become as selective as stage 6. |

Van Den Broeck putting in a good shift to move up to 11th there. Assuming that Dombrowski drops out of the top 10 as the race moves on, that hopefully leaves room for the big Belgian to move into the top 10 himself.
Also solid riding from Wellens to put himself into the top 5 of the youth classification. I hope he sticks with it.

Great result from Ricco. I must admit that I was all over the place, when I saw him crash for the 2nd time. I have had that SO many times in the Man-Game GTs...
2nd on the stage is amazing though, getting to 5th in the GC. He managed to claw back the lost time today. Pluchkin and Cunego seems impossible to reach, and Trofimov will be difficult aswell with the hilly, flat and TTs we still have ahead. Dombrowski should be manageable though.

Good to see some interest from a manager not involved Scorchio, particularly when some PT managers aren't even bothered.
Not going too well for Vesuvio here so far with Kirsch being injured.

Really dynamic route here in the first week. Hoping Meyer and McCarthy keep putting themselves in breaks because they are very well suited to stage hunting right now if they can get in (and stay in) those moves.
Overall, disappointing from Denifl so far, but there is time to change that and claw his way back up a bit.

Luckily, big boys took this stage quite easy as I was afraid some of my riders could be OOT today. Still, very interesting fight in last part of stage.
Next stage looks like the easiest one so far, it would be great to see Degenkolb celebrating in the finish

Have to say that this is an incredible pace of reporting SN. Especially when you consider the quality of the reports as well
Madrazo is very disappointing here, have to fancy Cunego to continue his Giro dominance. |

Ouch, Gomez Marchante...guess that will be a big shock for roturn when scrolling through the results.
Apart from that, to wrap up week 1: nice to see Cunego and Pluchkin doing that well, and the good Ponzi/Trofimov showing is always helping to strengthen my belief in sticking to a Demare plan for the next seasons.
Madrazo on the other hand starts to be worryingly passive, dunno how bad of a result Santander can afford here...
