Tour de San Luis Discussion

7 seconds, that was close Grin

The team did a fantastic job, while Zabriskie showed that he can be trusted (unless Mresuperstar jinxed him for the final stage Wink ).

I hope that Roche can continue to perform well in Africa, and that the team can celebrate two great performances in a row... and hopefully build on to that momentum for the next races that awaits!

Going much better here than in Africa. This is good, as this is more important than TOSA. Nice attempt by Paulinho, too bad he didn't get a full success. Hoping Greipel takes more sprint points and the point jersey.

A solid day for AMEXpc on stage #5. For the 2nd hilly stage Michael Kurth got himself into the breakaway and that insured that Barredo and our sprinters could have a safe and non-taxing day. Barredo was shadowing Zabriskie ready to mark his move but Super Dave never had to attack as the leaders came back to him and he was able to play it safe, save energy and hold the leaders jersey. Barredo finished 4th on the day and moved up to 8th (from 17th) in the GC so he also had a good day.

Barredo is going to have to attack to move up and that is very unlikely as he is too much of a threat to let get away. He would be smart to ride at the front of the peloton just in case a disaster alters the race. It would also give Barredo a chance to pick up a few more Sprint points and KOM points which would likely inch him higher in those standings.

Kurth, Tailleour and Reinhardt will be escorting our sprinters who should be rested and ready to earn some points. This time the sprint train timings has to be better for Kupfurnagel to win.

Voilá gaps! Didn't work out for Plaza, but at least Mendes got into the top10 which kinda compensates for missing the top5 here.

I was afraid that the breakaway would stay clear of the pack, but the peloton was pretty responsible fortunately. Also Durasek and Paulinho were great in this stage, but the biggest winner here is obviously ING who's having a great month so far.

Now for the flat stages. Greipel is the favourite for me, but I still have my hopes banked on Avelino though.

Tendero 10th in GC is nice. Hope he stays there. A bit disappointed by Zabalo and Velits that they lost so much time.
Hugely disappointed by Geschke. If the AI would be smarter he would be a stage favourite on the uphill stages. At least his kind of riders win always in my careers...

Will at least get a few points from here.

Well that sucks. 4th is still fine but I was really hoping that Cornu could pick up a podium here. With this sort of finish it was always going to be dicey though.

Also Vanspeybrouck almost moving into a scoring podition in a TT based race. Amazingly versatile.

It sucks that Gerdemann had a weak day and the difference is only 7 seconds. But at least i continue to score many points per race day.

I'm not sure how to express my feelings without excessive swearing. That has just ruined this race.

Some really sad results for other teams. Some teams, myself included, gained on this. Mixed feelings.

Points competition is exciting. It's so close!

Ouch for Bpost and Sram...But the finish of this and tomorrows stage is much harder than it looks like. That`s why I sent Geschke here. Unfortunately I also decided to send Cucinotta, which ruins the race as Geschke won`t participate in the sprints... In especially tomorrow I think he could have made a stage podium...

jt1109
Damn that's awful for Sram and Bpost and just makes me even more nervous for the last stage just really want this over with now with Durasek in the peleton.

WoW! Very suprised to see both Gerdeman and Cornu struggle and loose big chunks of time.

One again AMEXpc's sprint misfired. Kupfernagel and Keough have bungled this race. It will be back to the drawing board on sprint partners as Kupfernagel and Keough did not mesh well together.

Now on the positive side Carlos Barredo continued to ride very consistently and continued his climb up the GC ending the stage in 6th place and +0'48. Patrick Gretsch has also had a solid race placing 4th in stage 4 TT and now fighting to hold on to a top 20 finish. Currently he is 21st and +2'27. Michael Kurth had his first off day of the tour, not getting into the sprint train and not getting into the breakaway. Overall this has still been a good week for Kurth.

The 7th and final stage is listed as a flat stage but I think these 3 climbs will take a lot out of the sprinters. Gretsch probably does not have the climbing skills needed to hold on for a top 20 but with luck he can fight and save a top 25. Barredo is just 48 seconds behind the leader Zabriski but he cannot wait for the last climb to try for the win.

If we are right about this last stage having a need for climbing then Barredo might just challenge for a podium spot . Zabriski seems safe as he can ride the flats and the hills well enough to stave of any attacks. It could be a very interesting last 1/3 of the stage with any 2 of next 7 in the GC capable of finishing on the podium under the right circumstances, who attacks when and who is ready to counter.

We like barredo's chances to fight up to a podium finish, but even if he can't we are expecting him to be in the fight at the end.

Can't really see many attack because of the rating as a flat stage usually means that if a break is away were not going to see any attacks so the only way time is going to be lossed is through mechanicals or splits in the peleton both could happen but attack won't because of the flat listing in the stage unfortunetly.

I do not have that same kind of confidence yet in PCM12. I have seen flat stages that played out on climbs as hilly stats. I am waiting to see how this one plays out as Barredo is an aggressive rider (FGT/85) combinded with Flat/75 and Hill/75.

I can not say you are wrong, it just seems like PCM12 plays this out differently that the earlier PCM's.

What do the rest of the veteran managers expect. Is classifying a stage as Flat the determining factor for AI attacks?

Whoa disaster for Sram and Bpost, I Feel sorry for Count and felix. This worked in my benefit but this isn't the way I like to achieve results. As jtt I'm also a bit nervous for the last stage. This can happen to anyone.

About the sprint: it looked like a replay of stage 2. AMEX train failed (just like my team in Tachira) and Avelino chose the wrong wheel again. The thing is that the victor was different. Davis finally woke up to give Hollister's 1000th victory this season.

I think this stage race has way too many flat stages than it should Pfft

Imo I think you're being a bit optimistic expecting that a specific rider attacks in a flat-rated stage. I'm no expert myself but I think what jtt said applies very well in this situation especially if you take into consideration this peloton has sprinters like Davis and Greipel who can take on a hill really well. Besides all the climbing is done with >20km from the finish, so I find that unlikely to happen.

But we're forgetting one thing. This is PCM we're talking about, anything can happen! Predictions serve for nothing, just expect the unexpected, that's what I've learned in all this years of Man-Game Wink

Really bad luck for Cornu and Gerdemann, not much going on for my team, but I didn't really expect anything. Odd that my 74 sprinter is consistently outsprinting my 77 sprinter.
