only 10 races we'll be in clash, what is good for me, but unfortunately almost in all of them the hopes of Mehr-Wenige were reduced

Moreno finishes Algerie off with overall victory!
41. F. Anton Martin
42. S. Bystrom
43. L. Fernandez Oliveira
44. D. Gallego
45. D. Moreno
46. S. Nesset
47. L. Perez Sanchez
The Tour d'Algeria was Iberia's second race of the season. Dani Moreno, the teams best climber started the race facing competition of the CT's best climbers Arroyo and Marzano. Beating them loooked though so his hopes were set on a podium place in the final overal. Anton Martin knew he could take some notable results aswell on the 4 flat stages.
The race started good for the team with Moreno coming out of nowhere to take 2nd in the final sprint and gaining 12 valuable seconds over his opponents. The win went to Polivoda while Anton Martin took a low top 10 placing. The 2nd stage didn't bring any notable results as Alstom's Soupe took the win. The 3rd stage was much better though. Francesco Anton Martin stunned everybody in the final sprint taking the win by waiting long enough as other sprinters fell back due the wind.
Anton Martin celbrating his sprint victory
The unhoped win clearly motivated the whole team as young Norwegian Bystrom went into the break on stage 4. His group was brought back and Anton Martin couldn't repeat his earlier succes as Soupe took his second stage win. The fifth and final stage was of more interest though as the finish was waiting after a long final ascent. Moreno knew he had 12" advantage over his opponents and played it smart.
When Arroyo, Marzano, Rodas and Talabardon went on the attack for the first time, he trusted on his teammates as Perez Sanchez and Fernandez Oliveira brought them back. Rodas went again though and quickly created a good gap as our domestiques were burned out. Moreno played it cool and let Arroyo do all the work to bring him back. He didn't succeed so Moreno followed a decesive attack by Marzano. The duo set off in pursuit of Rodas who still had a 10" gap under the red kite. They closed the gap but were just to late to take the victory from the Colombian. Moreno finished 3rd and thanks to his bonus seconds on the first stage, he wins the overal in the same time as Rodas. That's 2/2 for the team and an unexpected succesfull start to the season. Next up will be Kathmandu were Sanchez has to fight back from a for him personnaly weak opening race.

Thanks. Expect the team to cool down abit though as we Won't ride a lot of races with Moreno or Rodriguez in the first couple of months. Teams with cobblers should come to the front now. When filling in the raceplanner, I was more expecting a late season surge anyway.

Sammy takes a podium in Nepal
21. Samuel Sanchez
22. A. Blazquez
23. F. Bongiorno
24. J. Chacon
25. J. Chaves
26. J. Toribio
27. J. Valencia
Kathmandou was the setting for the team's third race of the season. Rodriguez was not in our line up for this hilly circuit as we had faith in Sanchez. Knowing he is just a bit worse and after a rather weak start for him personally in Cuba, we had our hopes set on a top 5. The opposition would come from Weening, Mehr-Wenige and Barrrio.
The race got intresting for our team when Sammy used his downhill skills to attack away from the pack. He created a 30" gap which he could hold on untill Weening and Mehr-Wenige, who attacked out of the pack joined him in the last 10 kms. These 3 rode to the finish line together without any attack waiting for the sprint to decide the winner. It seemed like Sammy's old legs couldn't quite keep up when a gap started showing between him and the two others but the dutchmen clearly miscalculated and fell back. Sanchez on the other hand held up a bit of energy and used it to challenge Mehr-Wenige for the win in the last km. It was not enough as Mehr-Wenige crossed the line right in front of him. Sammy could be happy with a 2nd place as his teammates Blazquez and Valencia rolled over the finishline in the peloton on the 11th and 13th place. A rewarding trip for the team as we head back to Spain for our local race, the Trofeo Luis Puig.
Sanchez Gonzalez alone in the attack before Weening and Mehr-Wenige joined him.

You are. Strong race from him finishing alongside Toribio, Mora and Eiberger. All far superior punchers stats-wise

Good stamina (and presence at the front) definitely a factor. Hoping it'll be of good use in a few years as well.

Lay takes second in our home race!
21. S. Lay
22. F. Anton Martin
23. S. Bystrom
24. J. Chaves
25. D. Gallego
26. S. Nesset
27. J. Toribio
The Trofeo Luis Puig with its finish in Valencia was one of the most important races for the team and the sponsors. It was mostly flat for the sprinter's though and that is not a strength from the team. We still had one of the topfavourites in Lay though so were hoping for atleast a podium spot.
The race was quite dull with 3 early attackers getting caught with 10 km to go. Everything would be decided in the sprint. Surprisingly, we were the only team to start a sprint train with first Nesset and then Anton Martin leading out Lay. These two did their job to perfection putting Lay in perfect position under the red kite. Lay went for it but Kenya Airways' Schinker had the perfect position in our Spaniards wheel and came around to take the victory. Everybody is still very happy with a 2nd place. This rounds up a succcesfull January. February will start quite late for us with the GP Postojna.
Anton Martin doing a perfect job as a leadout for Lay.

Apparently, we can also have a bad race
21. S. Sanchez Gonzalez
22. A. Blazquez
23. J. Chacon
24. J. Chaves
25. D. Gallego
26. J. Toribio
27. J. Valencia
The GP Postojna in Slovenia was not a good race for the team. We started with hope in Sanchez who had already shown he can compete with the best over hilly courses. Both Sanchez and a pleasantly strong Blazquez showed some aggression. Especially Sanchez' attack seemed strong but the route just wasn't hard enough. It was Kump who rode away in the final 10 kilometres to take the win in front of a sprinting peloton were our guys didn't stand a chance. Next up is our sponsor goal in Galicia.
Sanchez creating quite a gap with a strong attack.

The fight for the Win in Galicia!
The team's second goal of the season, winnning the Volta a Galicia is right around the corner. After reaching our first goal in San Cristobal, the win is once again expected. That's why we brought our probably strongest line up.
71 F. Perez Sanchez
72. A. Blazquez
73. L. Fernandez Oliveira
74. D. Gallego
75. D. Moreno
76. J. Rodriguez Oliver
77. J. Valencia
The race is only 3 stages long but should definatly bring some excitement. Starting with a bumpy hilly stage where a small group is expected to finish together, Moreno should be fast enough to fight for the win. Next up is a hilly stage where Rodriguez can go for the win gaining some time on the better climbers before the last stage with a hard mountain top finish.
The sponsors expect a win and so does the manager. Let's hope for some great racing!

Huge dissapointment in Galicia!
The Volta a Galicia, despite the high hopes at the start turned out to be quite a dissapointment. The first hilly stage which wasn't that tough afterall seemed like the perfect chance for Moreno to show his vicious sprint. Valencia showed some power attacking in the final but more important was topfavourite Arroyo's crash. One less opponent for the win. The stage ended in a sprint but our guys where nowhere to be seen during the preparations. Coming from far back, Rodriguez could salvage somethings finishing 5th as Carrara took the win.
Top favourite Arroyo going down in a crash
The second stage was hilly again but the finish was on top of quite a hill. Perfect for Rodriguez one would think. Well that would have been the case had he tried something. Had any Iberia rider tried something, the only time we made the report was with Perez Sanchez' crash. Weening and Arroyo rode away with the first taking the race lead and the latter taking the stage win. From nowhere, Rodriguez won the sprint in the group taking third and some bonusses.
Rodriguez taking third. Our race highlight.
The last stage should be decisive with a finish atop of a hard mountain. Both Moreno and Rodriguez were still good in GC with the latter even holding a podium spot. Somehow. That didn't mean our guys tried anything though. Menchov showed some nice attacks but it was Rudaskov who made the decisive move going hard with 1.5 km to go and holding off the closing favourites. Rodriguez looked good for a while but faded near the end taking 4th resulting in a 5th overall place. Moreno decided not to use his sprint qualities at all staying in the back of the group. Overall, one big dissapointment and a missed goal.
Rodriguez showing a good kick before he started to fade.

Kenya has a beautiful landscape!
121. D. Moreno
122. F. Bongiorno
123. S. Bystrom
124. J. Chacon
125. J. Chaves
126. L. Fernandez Oliveira
127. S. Nesset
128. F. Perez Sanchez
A young team led by Moreno went to Afrika to race in the Kenya Mountain Classic. As the name says, a one day classic over a hard mountain. It's our only HC race this season so we will encounter the hardest startlist from all season here. The continental tour's best climbers were too much for us so there is no use in writing a report since we weren't really visible. Still, Moreno finished 23rd and took 5 points. Instead of the report, we will show you some pictures of the beautifull Kenyan landscape!
This would have been a poster if there was a Iberia rider at the front!
The unpaved roads only made the mountain more heroic.
Some of the world's best climbers attacking towards heaven?

Sochi brings some breaks and a couple of points
131. S. Sanchez Gonzalez
132. F. Bongiorno
133. S. Bystrom
134. J. Chacon
135. J. Chaves
136. S. Nesset
137. J. Toribio
The Tour of Sochi, a 5 day C1 stage race in Russia including a hard hill finish and a long timetrial was a nice way for our young riders to gain some experience on a higher level. With stars like Dekker, Zabriskie, Kritskiy and World Champion Boom at the startlist, Sanchez never stood a chance for the overal.
Our team showed itself for the first time in the second stage as Bystrom joined the break of the day. Passeron who was part of that break won the stage with a late attack but Bystrom got gobbled up by the big pack. The third stage was seen as the queen stage and our leader joined himself. Sanchez was at the front for the whole final trying to force a break but his attacks were empty handed. It was local star Kritisky who took the win and the race lead. He kept that lead through the timetrial and final stage were our team wasn't seen. 17th and 23th overal for Sanchez and Chaves respectively is not bad.
Sanchez in one of his many attacks on the queen stage.

Good team effort in Kwita Izina
21. F. Anton Martin
22. S. Bystrom
23. L. Fernandez Oliveira
24. D. Gallego
25. D. Moreno
26. S. Nesset
27. J. Rodriguez Oliver
Kwita Izina is a 3day stage race in Rwanda, Africa. The race starts with a mountain top finished followed by a flat and a hilly stage. With a team including both Moreno and Rodriguez, our hopes were high. A podium was the goal but the win seemed hard with Arroyo at the start though he hasn't lived up to his hype so far. The mountain stage was quite disappointing as 3 guys broke away on the penultimate climb and Die Berg wasn't strong enough to bring them back resulting in a win by Eiberger. Moreno finished strong leading home the peloton with Fernandez Oliveira and Rodriguez also in the top 10. Anton Martin was one of the top favourites but couldn't take the win on the flat stage. We had to choose and opted for Moreno going his own chance instead of leading out Anton Martin. That was wrong as Anton Martin had to see how Rizza could take a stage win.
Iberia train on the right while Moreno sits in stage winner Rizza's wheel
The last stage was hilly and Fernandez Oliveira made a smart move joining the breakaway. He participated in both mountain and sprint primes taking some valuable seconds which would catapult him into the overal top 10. Strong attacks from Eiberger, Arroyo, Rodriguez Oliver and Jumabekov joined the break atop the last climb of the day. They would sprint it out for the win with race leader Eiberger giving his overal win some extra glance with a second stage win. Rodriguez Oliver takes 3rd and he also jumps into the top 10 due to the bonus seconds. 4th and 6th overal and a grand total of 7 stage top ten's is not bad in the end.
Rodriguez timed his jump a bit too early as he sprints for the last stage

I like your reports, and of course you did rather well in Rwanda after that strange opener. While missing the podium may hurt a bit, things could have been worse for Iberia.

Two in top 5 in Gp Miguel Indurain.
11. J. Rodriguez Oliver
12. A. Blazquez
13. F. Bongiorno
14. J. Chaves
15. S. Sanchez Gonzalez
16. J. Toribio
17. P. Valencia
We were back in Spain for the GP Miguel Indurain. A tribute to one of Spain's best cyclists ever and a 5 time Tour de France winner. The hilly course was definatly to our liking as we brought both Rodriguez and Sanchez. They both showed already they are with the best of the C2 division on these courses. Their support is also really strong so the goal was simple. The win. The race started quite slow with a 3 men breakaway getting free. Their lead growed gradually untill the halfway mark of the race when we took the race in our hands. Barrio was the first to show his balls and jumped clear a bit later. We kept our train intact.
5 Iberia domestiques at the front as Barrio is off.
As Barrio joined the early break with 25 km to go, Sanchez knew it was his time as he jumped past an attacking Grau to pursuit the leaders. He joined Barrio at the front wtih 10 kms to go. This was the sign for Scarponi to attack from the peloton. Quickly followed by Kirchen, Grau, Weening and Rodriguez. They joined Barrio and Sanchez to form a 7 men leading group. Scarponi attacked again though and got Sanchez, Weening and Kirchen in his wheel. They would sprint for the win. Sanchez went early but was tired from his earlier efforts and had to see how Scarponi took the win. He just held off Weening to take the 2nd place. Rodriguez easily sprinted away from Barrio and Grau to take 5th. In the end, we didn't take the win but we can't be unhappy either.
Sanchez going early in the sprint for the line.

Dissapointing ride in Glave
31. S Lay
32. A. Blazquez
33. S. Bystrom
34. S. Nesset
35. S. Sanchez Gonzalez
36. J. Toribio
37. J. Valencia
We send a strong squad to Norway in a race that consisted of 4 sprint stages and one hilly stage. Lay was our leader for the sprints while Sanchez had hopes for a good overal. Our two loaned in Norwegians Nesset and Bystrom ofcourse got a chance aswell to race in their home country.
The first three stages were completely flat and match-made for Lay. He failed to deliver though only getting one top three, a third place on the second stage. Ciocan, Dekkers and Meenhorst took the honours witht he first holding the lead going into the decisive hilly stage.
Lay going fast in the sprint on stage 2
The hilly stage was really bad for us though as gaps failed to emerge. A group of riders, without any Iberia's made a late attack and would sprint for the win. It was Scarponi who took it while Ciocan rode surprisingly well to keep his leaders jersey. 8th and 10th was the best we could get with Sanchez and Blazquez. In the last stage, we decided to work for Lay once again hunting that wanted stage win but with our punchers pulling hard at the front, we dropped our own sprinter. We waited for him paced him back to the peloton but victory was gone. Race leader Ciocan followed a late attack and sprinted away to take his second stage win plus the overal. Blazquez was our best rider in the overal as he took 9th by placing him at the front on the flat stages while helping out Lay.

Lay takes his first win in Romaniei
21. S. Lay
22. F. Anton Martin
23. F. Bongiorno
24. J. Chacon
25. L. Fernandez Oliveira
26. D. Gallego
27. F. Perez Sanchez
The Turul al Romaniei would be our longest race of the season. Counting 9 days including one mountain top finish and one short prologue, our main hope was Saulo Lay for the sprint stages. Assisted by Anton Martin, we were hoping for some victories.
The start wasn't bad as Perez Sanchez took 7th in the opening prologue. That put him in a good position for the overal but he lost that when he got dropped on one of the flat stages. Lay took 2nd on the second stage before he took the win on the 3rd. An impressive sprint where he used the BNCR train to perfection. It was welcome as the team hadn't won since that amazing first week of the season. Bad positioning only helped him to on the 4t stage while a really bad day on stage 5 saw him getting dropped from the peloton over some hills.
Saulo Lay showed his power in the sprint
The next two stages went better as Lay took 5th and 3rd which saw him moving close to the lead in the points classification. As expected we had nobody in the top 10 on the mountain stage but Gallego took 12th while putting himself 11th in the overal. The last stage was our hope for Lay to take a 2nd win and the points competition but he could only take 6th. That meant he dropped to 3rd in the points ranking. Still a good race for us with a stage win and 11th place by Gallego.
Next up will be a double interview with our two young Norwegian riders who are on loan from Aker - MOT
