Good news on Bruyneel though, it needs to happen. |

I really hope that the real cycling-fans dont give up on Armstrong. Even if he was doping, he still was the best in all those races. Livestrong! |

Indeed. This report is bullshit. The ones who should be accused is the riders who have admitted it.

Speaking as a former European (ha) now living in the USA, I would concur with DeadPool's measurement of the US public opinion/mood on LA here. The fact that so much compelling evidence is now 'out there' in a bigger way isn't proving terribly convincing to many here (and didn't in years gone by when it was still out there). They want to believe in the heroic, victorious story and role model and are not too interested in the evidence or the truth. That he has a connection to a medical charity only clouds the issue further.
Anecdotal, I admit, but on browsing news sites here I see perhaps a 50-10-40% split with the 40% still very pro LA, the 10 unsure/wavering and the 50 more inclined to buy into the evidence/history and see a clearer picture of the truth. Even then, there's a strong sense of his charity work somehow 'offsetting' any wrongdoing in what is indeed considered a very fringe sport, here.
Greg LeMond is not a household name here - Lance Armstrong probably is. The differences between them might be gulf-like as human beings (or not) but the main public perception differential is 7 > 3.
It strikes me that LA doesn't have enough to gain by 'coming clean' (sorry!) where a big chunk of his domestic support remains intact. If the coming weeks barrage his reputation further then that might change but people are increasingly like ostriches - they don't want the truth.
It was eleven more than necessary.

He was the best in all those races, and deserves all those victories.
The reasons real cycling fans should and do hate him are:
a) That he was/is a huge asshole, who thinks he's bigger than the sport. Not only that, but he has consistently gone out of his way to ruin the lives and careers of anyone who went against him.
b) He realized that the only part of cycling non-cycling fans knew or cared about was the Tour de France, and as such decided to focus his career solely around the Tour, and in doing so ruined the sport in the process. In the past, you had true champions of the sport who rode every major race every year and were competitive in them. Now, riders choose one or at most two specialties and focus solely on them. By forcing GC riders to focus only on the Tour if they wanted to beat him, he caused that.
Don't you think Andy or Cadel could do a good result in Paris-Roubaix after this:

EDIT: Another good example, you couldn't build a better late race attacker for MSR than Sammy Sanchez. I doubt he's ever raced it, and if he has, he certainly wasn't in form.

... and if this https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/cycling/...g/19921705 has legs then it's a whole other ball game, as they say.

He did. Massively. And more than once, if I recall the report correctly.

The US Attorney already had all the evidence necessary to indict him for this. He chose not too. Public pressure may change that, but...it's not as sure as it seems. |

It's been about a month since the last time, but I decided to check out the Armstrong-site on Facebook again...

To be fair, wasn't it post-injury LeMond that started the TdF focus thing?

Aaah... 1985 to 1995; the golden decade of cycling.
Then follows the decade of the golden shower.

Prudhomme believes there should be no winner for the Tour between the 1999-2005 races as he believes that: "It depicts an era and a system which are forever soiled. The best solution is to say that there should be no winner those years". |
