Britain showed that if you only have a plan A and stick to it, you're eventually gonna fail.
For this kind of scenario, they should've had a backup plan.
They didn't really have much of an option ultimately... Froome obviously didn't feel good and Wiggo isn't the world's best puncheur. A strong 30-man breakaway also wasn't in the script.
I think that GB were right to stick to their plan, hoping for a little more support in the chaseback. I'm not at all hurt that the Cav-plan failed cause I really don't think GB could have rode a better race. |

I'm Colombian and i'm so happy for Silver Medal, nobody believed that Uran or Henao could won a medal, but, Rigo felt asleep and lost the Gold Medal and thats hurts a little.
Look on the bright side. You won a medal on a course that was almost 90% anti-Colombian. Plus you have possible got the best climbing generation of any nation with Henao, Uran, Duarte, Quintana, Atapuma, Betancur, Chaves, Sarmiento and so on and so forth. They will revive Colombian cycling to the top. |

The Brits overestimated their own capacity, and didn't show enough respect to the rest of the cyclists. Everybody knew their plan, they didn't have any backup plan, so they've asked for what they got in the end. You cannot control a race of 200 km with 4 men. Period. |

You honestly think that was their aim? Of course they were expecting some help from the Australians and Germans. It seemed as though they were content with not getting a medal as long as it meant Cavendish didn't win. They should've helped to bring it back so that Goss and Greipel could've gotten at least silver and bronze. Instead they've ended up with nothing. |

Definately agree here Guido. Belgium, Spain, Germany, Italy etc. developed anti manx missile plan. Unfortunately they detonated their own hopes in the process (but to be fair gave themselves a chance) and a sky rider still medals!
I'm a Brit, but I am not really disappointed that Cav didn't win. When I saw that Austria jersey up there I was pretty disappointed, I mean Bernie Eisel has a good engine and could have been in that front group. Kazachstan, Colombia, Norway got medals no reason why Austria/Eisel should have no ambitions. So yeah I thought sod off bromance Eisel/Cavendish.
This from Millar
I think then that the last ascent on Box Hill was a tactical error from GB (and Germany/Australia) not dissimlar to Milan San Remo in a way. Easy to say in hindsight of course.

so, anyone taking bets on how much he paid for it?
Nobody from the 'sky doping' thread ever said he was clean. And you are a hypocrit, defending Sky but condemning Vino. Good job on having double standards.
Also, IF Vino paid for it then it means Uran is just as bad as him for selling it.
Pozzato sucks!

You people must've watched a different race than I did.
The belgians, spanish and italians all had tons of riders in the break so obviously they weren't going to work.
Germany put everyone on the front except Greipel.
The only ones who fit under your descriptions are the Australians

Yeah, they let far too many people clear on the final climb they had it all under control at the bottom, and 5km after the top they were in big trouble, from which they never recovered.
The other big nations can't really be faulted for their tactics.
Paolini, Valverde, Sanchez, in a reduced group with 10km to go is about as good as it could get for Spain and Italy. Geipel needs a lead out man to win, so with Martin pulling out early, they could never be much help, although like GB they could have controlled that final ascent better.
Gilbert should never have done that solo attack, so I guess Belgium messed up a bit.

Box Hill is a pain in the ass to get to and from. But I managed to get a good spot, and seemed like an interesting race from the 9 parts of Box Hill climbs I saw, and the finish which I watched on the big screen.
Not a result I would have expected!
This may already have been touched upon, but I wonder what Norway could have done with a bit of unity i.e. Nordhaug working for Kristoff rather than making his own attack

Australia had O'Grady in the front. Yeah, long shot, but he still managed a 6th place, so he had good legs.

Cancellara is in hospital rumoured to have a broken collarbone. This would suck a lot. He could have won two gold medals here and might end with nothing. |

He looked like it the way he was positioned. Sad news, could have had a bronze medal.

His own fault. Just stupid, who comes in the lead and immediately stops pedalling and starts looking behind. 50 metres of pedalling, taking the turn the right way without looking back and the fall wouldn't have happened.
