Before coming to the national championships it`s time for a short transfer overview again.
As already written during the TdS Fischer officially renewed his contract with us. Therefore it`s still open how Zabriskie decides. We hope to hold him for one more year.
Pozzovivo is staying with Colnago and will be a great double lead together with Mollema.
Cunego will also stay with Lampre. This is quite surprising as he was sad about not being nominated for the Giro to defend his title. But obviously he feels really well with them.
Carlos Sastre renewed his contract with Team Katusha for one more year. He is still waiting for the big win in this season but obviously Katusha believes in him.
Therefore Pozzato is looking for a new challenge. He leaves the Russian team. He won`t have big problems to find a new team as there are already many interests.
Also Haussler is leavin the Cervelo Test Team. Maybe we should ask him about joining our team? Would be a great addition with his abilities but not sure if we can make it real.
This is also a surprise. Frank Schleck leaves Team Saxobank. He won a lot with them and was wearing the rainbow jersey for them. But obviously he is looking for a new leader role as he is always behind his brother Andy and also Porte and Fuglsang are coming from behind. |

Haussler would be a a nice transfer for your team. I would try to sign him
Great timetrial, good to see LL Sanchez making the Top-10! Congrats!

I just give a short overview about the most important national championships and then posting the whole results in June later.
ITT
Campeonato de España
1 | Alberto Contador | Astana | 48'31 | 2 | Luis León Sánchez Gil | Garmin - Transitions | + 1'43 | 3 | Samuel Sánchez | Euskaltel - Euskadi | + 1'44 |
LL Sanchez had a good ride but Contador seems to be in a brilliant shape for the Tour and was unbeatable.
Nederlands Kampioenschap
1 | Stef Clement | Rabobank | 1h10'17 | 2 | Jos Van Emden | Rabobank | s.t. | 3 | Lars Boom | Garmin - Transitions | + 38 |
We missed the first goal to win this ITT with Boom. Rabobank was much too strong today.
USA Championship
1 | David Zabriskie | Garmin - Transitions | 47'56 | 2 | Levi Leipheimer | Team RadioShack | + 3 | 3 | Tejay Van Garderen | Team HTC - Columbia | + 33 |
This was a surprise for us. Zabriskie beats the favourite Leipheimer by 3s and wins the ITT championship. Danny Pate, our best time trialist finished 4th.
Road
USA Championship
1 | George Hincapie | BMC Racing Team | 5h55'46 | 2 | David Zabriskie | Garmin - Transitions | + 8 | 3 | Tyler Farrar | Garmin - Transitions | s.t. |
This was bad luck for Garmin. Hincapie attacked on the half of the race. Garmin controlled the peloton for the whole stage and in the end Hincapie saved 8s to the win ahead of last years winner Zabriskie and a strong Farrar. Pate and Danielson on 4 and 5 with +1'15 show our domination ahead of the RadioShack riders and Van Garderen finishing with +2'01.
Campeonato de España
1 | Francisco Ventoso | Team RadioShack | 5h26'04 | 2 | Juan José Oroz | Palmeiras Resort - Prio | s.t. | 3 | David GarcÃa Dapena | Xacobeo Galicia | + 12 |
Rojas was a small favourite if the tempo is not too high. Undortunately it was won by a breakaway. Rojas and Sanchez finished in the peloton with all favourites.
Nederlands Kampioenschap
1 | Sebastian Langeveld | Rabobank | 5h20'06 | 2 | Lars Boom | Garmin - Transitions | s.t. | 3 | Laurens Ten Dam | Rabobank | + 22 |
Again Rabobank dominating the championships. Boom attacked on the last hill, just Langeveld was able to follow. Then he won the sprint from Boom`s wheel. Maaskant and Kreder did also well in the top 10.
Ireland Championship
1 | Daniel Martin | Garmin - Transitions | 4h01'12 | 2 | Páidà O'Brien | An Post - Sean Kelly | + 21'10 | 3 | David O'Loughlin | An Post - Sean Kelly | s.t. |
Daniel Martin with an impressive ride in Ireland. At first he did the pace to fetch 3 An Post riders with 1min ahead then he just rode and the other riders were distanced a lot. Actually there were 8 riders, 6 An Post, Martin and Deignan. Last years double champion Roche is injured and missed it. He might have been a better opponent as seen last year. |

It was really a funny ride And I rode on 50 the most time. Could have even more with 65% In 2010 I did the same, but unfotunately Roche was always 2min behind and a few kilometers to the finish he overtook me. Therefore I wasn`t able to win the ITT with Martin, although Roche wasn`t there. 2nd again.
All other results will be posted in a few minutes in the month summary. But Martin won both German nationals. |

Summary of June 2011
In general it was a quite successful month for us. Good results in all races. Also we were able to win again after a long break. Boom, Farrar, Zabriskie and Martin were able to celebrate. But also Hesjedal`s 4th in the Dauphine and Sanchez 10th in Suisse aren`t bad.
Unfortunately we had lots of bad luck in some nationals with Boom or in the American Roads.
Therefore we will ride with the new Irish champion.
Another reason to get Felline is his win in the Italian road championship.
Kreuziger dominated the Dauphine which was much harder than the TdS.
He won the overall, the point and young jersey and 2 stages. He also won the Czeck nationals and deserves this trophy.
The young award goes to Roman Kireyev (Astana).
With two breakaways he won the KoM jersey in the Dauphine and was 4th in the Kazakstan ITT.
Pro Tour ranking
CQ-Ranking
Liquigas is also dominating this ranking. We can also be happy with both rankings on 5. At the moment ISD-Neri with Visconti and Gerrans and Cofidis with Dumoulin and Taaramae would get a PT license next year but the season is still long. |

With the Tour de France many riders will be busy for the whole month. But we decided to participate in Austria, too. Martin had a great 2nd last year with one stage win behind Pozzovivo. This year he wants to go for the overall win. Not sure about the starting field as his form is just about 75.
We will have a great squad for the Tour with Hesjedal being the leader and Farrar for the sprints.
In Austria we hope for Martin and Rojas. We want to get at least 2 wins there.
In San Sebastian Hesjedal will be our leader if he is still in a good shape after the Tour. Otherwise Sanchez, Kessiakoff or Maaskant might be more relaxed to help him out.
So first days will jump between Tour and Austria. |

The Tour De France, Grande Boucle or Le Tour is the most famous cycling race in the world. It`s held since 1903 every year for 3 weeks in July. It`s organized by the ASO and is the third biggest sport event after the soccer world cup and Olympia.
It`s supposed to be the hardest cycling race although the race profiles are often harder in the other 2 GT`s.
For many years it was Lance Armstrong against Jan Ullrich. While Armstrong is also participating this year Ullrich retired a few years ago. Since then it was often Contador against Andy Schleck. Could be the same this year. Even more surprising was the win by Denis Menchov last year.
Result in 2010
1 | Denis Menchov | Rabobank | 2 | Alberto Contador | Astana | 3 | Samuel Sánchez | Euskaltel - Euskadi | 4 | Levi Leipheimer | Team RadioShack | 5 | Bradley Wiggins | Sky Professional Cycling Team | 6 | Andy Schleck | Team Saxo Bank | 7 | Ivan Basso | Liquigas-Doimo | 8 | Carlos Sastre | Cervélo Test Team | 9 | Jurgen Van den Broeck | Omega Pharma-Lotto | 10 | Michael Rogers | Team HTC - Columbia |
Hesjedal struggled on the last mountain stages and wasn`t able to get a top10. Also in 2011 it will be hard to reach it as all riders are participating again except of Van den Broeck.
Schleck lost his podium on the final ITT and felt back on 5.
The route 2011:
It`s my own Tour variant of the 2008 edition. It`s without a prologue and starts with a lightly hilly uphill finish, so the favourites must be concentrated from the first day. There are 7-8 stages for the sprinters and 5 hard mountainstages including the mountain top finishes on HAutacam, Prato Nevoso and Alpe d'Huez. With 82,5km of pretty flat ITT it will be hard for bad time trialists to win the overall.
More information here: https://www.letour...cours.html
Garmin squad 2011
Hesjedal will be our leader. He will have some problems with the long timetrials and the harder mountains but we think he can do quite well.
He is supported by Danielson, Lowe and Peterson in the mountains.
Tyler Farrar is one of the strongest sprinters in this Tour and our sponsor wants the points jersey after 21 stages. So we will give our best in the flat stages. With Boom and Vansummeren he will have a great sprint train.
Kreder and Zabriskie will help as good as they can. But all of our riders will also get the chance to break out if there is a good opportunity.

Favourites
Overall
Of course he is the top favourite. He is the best climber and the best time trialist of the favourites.
Can he defend his title? He is still a great climber and also pretty good against the clock. If he is in a good shape he could be one of the strongest opponents of Contador.
Andy Schleck can dominate the mountains with the right form. But he has to if he wants to compensate for his time trial skills.
Another good bet is Samuel Sanchez. He rode quite well in the TdS and might have a good form.
Basso is good in the mountains but he already rode the Giro and might be exhausted. But again he got the nod over Cunego.
Wiggins might have problems on hilly stages but he will be one of the strongest on the real moutnains and against the clock.
***** Contador
**** Sanchez, Menchov
*** A. Schleck, Wiggins, Basso
** F.Schleck, Gesink, Leipheimer, Kreuziger
* Brajkovic, Anton, Monfort, Hesjedal, Karpets
Points
Tyler Farrar is our hope for this jersey. He is one of the best sprinters and is also not the worst on light hills.
The biggest opponent could be HTC with Greipel. He already rode the Giro. Not sure about his fitness.
Also Hushovd could get some wins on the flat stages. He dominated the Vuelta last year but after changing teams to RadioShack he wasn`t that great so far. At least he won the Norwegian Championship last week.
Boasson Hagen is maybe not the fastest in a mass sprint but he will also collect some points on the more hilly terrain.
***** Farrar
**** Greipel, Hagen
*** Hushovd, Davis, Haedo
** Breschel, Napolitano, Pozzato, McEwen
* Sutton, Brown, Steegmans, Chicchi, Mondory
U25
Robert Gesink will lead the Rabobank squad after Menchov left the team.
It could come to an interesting duel with Roman Kreuziger, the winner of the Dauphine. The Czeck rider might have some advantages. |

@ baia:
Liquigas dominated the Giro and Dauphine plus some more races.
Felline is average (72-74) in cobbles and hills and also quite good in flat and sprint. Plus very young and room to increase. He also leads the Continental ranking. |

It will be hard a top ten with Hesjedal but you have a lot more chances with Farrar for the sprinters jersey. Good luck. |

Armstrong will probably fight with Machadofor the 3rd RadioShack
Leipheimer and Brajkovic should be so much better. Top 20 is still possible but hard for him. |

Le Tour de France - Stage 1
Brest - Plumelec
This Tour doesn`t start with a prologue but with an hilly stage in Western France. The uphill finish might lead to time gaps, so all overall riders must be careful.
Real winner 2008: Alejandro Valverde
A bigger group is formed after the start. No Garmin rider there as it is just the first stage. So we were surprised that so many riders will already spend much energy. Liquigas with even 2 riders in it.
With Florencio, Hoste, Goss and Bonnet for example the group is really strong.
Saxobank did most work behind. Breschel or Cancellara are also riders for this stage. But also Liquigas is helping while Finetto and Oss aren`t working in the front group.
Last year Farrar won the sprinters jersey in the Giro and was exhausted in the Tour afterwards, so he won no stage there. Will he be able to get a win in 2011. Probably not today but there are more stages coming for him.
Or can Greipel dominate in France? At the Giro he was just sprinter number 2 behind Cavendish but now he will have a better support on the final kilometers.
Shocking moment. One Rabobank rider in the first rows crashed. Luckily all other riders behind him could pass him without problems.
It was Leukemans but he is already on his wheel and can continue.
With 10km to ride the group will probably have success. Liquigas plays the 2 rider advantage. Finetto attacks and can create a gap.
But he was caught on the final kilometer and so Grega Bole celebrates a big win for him. He is ahead of Florencio and Chainel. So Liquigas with bad luck in the front group and bad luck with their sprinter Benatti. He didn`t crash today but is several minutes behind the peloton. Obviously he is totally out of form. Not sure if he was injured before the Tour. So Chicchi and Kump might be their riders in the flat stages.
Gilbert wins the sprint of the peloton. Behind him a small group with the biggest favourites and Hesjedal reaches the finish and gaining 25s on the rest. So the loser of this stage are Karpets, Basso, Wiggins, Monfort, Kreuziger, Leipheimer, F.Schleck, Anton and Brajkovic, who lost these seconds as also our 8 other riders.
With Hesjedal gaining time on several opponents we started quite good in this Tour even without fighting for the stage win.
