What if, what if... What if no 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9 and 10 was? Should no. 6 win then?
The riders decided to let things blend after the incident, so it had no effect on the race at all.
To look for the fails is a poor mans choice.
The rules are there for the safety of the riders. Did you see how close that train came? A DQ should set an example here, to make sure no one tries stunts like that again. I this is allowed, it will be going on until a rider tries it too late and gets hit by the train.
I think this was a pretty good race. Not too many freak accidents (if you count out half the pack almost being plowed by a train). I'm not too surprised about the result, even though I hoped for Kristoff to finish higher up. Maybe if he had had someone with him near the end he might have gotten a slightly better result, but looking back at the previous races I can't complain over a top 10.
All in all, a deserved winner. Not surprising, with great 'stache comes great responsibility.
There's a fine line between "psychotherapist" and "psycho the rapist"
Enjoyed it, really did. Degenkolb with a great race and perfect timing in the sprint. Deserved win, this move by Giant's duo was smart. Glad I decided to watch cycling instead of cheering with my football team

Everything was neutralized by train, so it had no significance
It's not about the influence on the race, it's about rider safety. No matter what's at stake, you don't cross railroads in front of a train!
EDIT: Thanks to the video of above, I count 9 seconds between the last BMC guy to cross and the train passing. Obviously that's a TGV high speed train, it seems as if it slowed down already when it saw the riders crossing.

Fair enough, but if you look at the amount of times riders get revolted about organizers disregarding their safety, I reckon a second thought should be wasted on the matter.

Yes. The train came by 9 seconds after the last of those 3 retarded riders crossed. Deducting those riders it came 16 seconds after the riders decided to stop.
Of course it won't keep up until some rider get's killed. You guys are taking this completely out of normal context. I have NEVER in my 25 years of following cycling seen a train pole come down just as the pack is crossing, splitting the pack in two. NEVER. I have seen it come down between a breakaway and a pack. This was a unique scenario, where people had no clue how to react. The riders was stopped in due time - EASILY. It wasn't as if they played chicken with the train to get an advantage over another rider.
I am aware of the rules, but I am also aware of the psychology behind the reactions. No one did it to benefit from it, or to break the rules, but did it because they had no clue what they should or shouldn't do. It was just the "normal" reaction to get past, and as the pace was down, and the poles aswell the remaining riders stopped for the train - And the riders that got ahead stopped to wait, so no riders got caught up behind.
Everything got dealt with exactly like it should imo. And to be honest I find it appaling that some are more interested in what happens to the resultlist if people are DQ than the race it self. The rules are quite clear, and based on those some of you are probably right, but that isn't what I'm after. It's the "Oh what would have happened if the winner had been DQ" and shit like that. It's shit... No more, no less.
Yeah yeah, let's keep on bitching about that for the rest of the day, instead of enjoying a great race. One of the best Paris-Roubaix' in my time.
Nice joke, What Roubaix was you watching?
This one... And yeah I do enjoy a race where you can't tell from 40kms out who wins. If you don't fair enough, but I enjoyed the fact that the race was extremely open until the very end. The strongest rider ended up winning, but nothing was given.
Certainly the three riders who went after he Policeman had stopped the rest need some serious penalty, like a 6month ban! And that should be an unnaceptable minimum....
But yet again sportsman are above the law. F*cking disgrace, absolute f*cking disgrace. We'll force them to wear helmets, but sure go ahead and jump in front of a train. God f*cking dammit this makes me so angry....
Otherwise it would have been an interesting days racing. Degenkolb the deserving winner having showed his strength to brdige across to the duo over Hem. But completely wtf results. So many 2nd+3rd tier leaders and riders suddenly looking like cobbled experts. Tbh it was a pretty weak race if you look at the results. But still great to watch and the right man won.
But f*ck the organisers and f*ck those riders. Should be f*cking punished the same as an member of the public would be for jumping the crossing like that.

Ah well said! That double team move was absolutely decisive. Chapeau to de Backer!

If you don't see a difference between what happened then, and what happened with the majority of the pack today then something is seriously wrong...

Take a look at 6:40... The pole is down. The riders comes up to it, and goes past. If you must compare, then you have to compare it to those three riders that went through today AFTER everyone else stopped.

Jesus Christ calm down. Sure they took some downright stupid and irresponsible actions but a 6 month ban? Like saying you should have your driving licence temporarily removed for jumping a red light.

Look again, it's more then just those 3 crossing when the barriers were down.
EDIT: Just to be clear on this, I don't want to see the entire pack DQed. I'm talking about rider safety, so the front guys hitting the breaks would've been dangerous as well (though it can't be compared to getting hit by a train of course). Look at those BMC-Wanty?-Astana riders crossing the first barrier together. They could've stopped. As could everyone behind them.
