Criterium du Dauphine - Stage 7

Spoiler

i1266.photobucket.com/albums/jj530/baseballlover312/Dauphine7.jpg

Time for a big ass mountain stage!

i1266.photobucket.com/albums/jj530/baseballlover312/PCM2014-11-2419-18-10-07.jpg

Somehow a breakaway that included white jersey Thibault Pinot managed to escape.

i1266.photobucket.com/albums/jj530/baseballlover312/PCM2014-11-2419-22-01-80.jpg

As BMC put on the pace for Tejay, we continued to put our guys at the fore.

i1266.photobucket.com/albums/jj530/baseballlover312/PCM2014-11-2419-24-00-28.jpg

However, some teams didn't do as well at positioning, and Peraud was off the back on the 2nd to last climb.

i1266.photobucket.com/albums/jj530/baseballlover312/PCM2014-11-2419-26-36-51.jpg

The break was just around the switchback as we reached the slopes of the final climb.

i1266.photobucket.com/albums/jj530/baseballlover312/PCM2014-11-2419-27-45-07.jpg

Just as the work on the front showed, Van Garderen had high ambitions for this stage. He attacked first.

i1266.photobucket.com/albums/jj530/baseballlover312/PCM2014-11-2419-28-27-20.jpg

I had Talansky on my wheel, and we were near the front, but Rohan wasn't having as good of a time. He told us to go ahead; he had to go his own pace. We probably would have anyway, but at least we didn't feel guilty.

i1266.photobucket.com/albums/jj530/baseballlover312/PCM2014-11-2419-29-59-82.jpg

Soon he had dropped but not cracked. TVG was reeled back in, and we started to control the front as the group whittled down.

i1266.photobucket.com/albums/jj530/baseballlover312/PCM2014-11-2419-31-13-59.jpg

Rohan just isn't a climber yet. And it showed. But he maintained his composure.

i1266.photobucket.com/albums/jj530/baseballlover312/PCM2014-11-2419-30-38-84.jpg

Attack by Chris Froome as we pass by the breakaway. My sore legs hurt as we pushed forward in the now tiny group.

i1266.photobucket.com/albums/jj530/baseballlover312/PCM2014-11-2419-31-53-75.jpg

Purito responded, but he couldn't quite close the gaps as we trudged into the final kms!

i1266.photobucket.com/albums/jj530/baseballlover312/PCM2014-11-2419-32-33-83.jpg

Talansky was on fire and at 2 km to go he was gone. I just couldn't match that anymore. I sailed backwards, completely empty. Job done.

i1266.photobucket.com/albums/jj530/baseballlover312/PCM2014-11-2419-33-33-93.jpg

Chris Froome Crosses the line first on stage 7!

i1266.photobucket.com/albums/jj530/baseballlover312/PCM2014-11-2419-33-58-02.jpg

And his 51 seconds over Joaquim Rodriguez is enough to take his yellow jersey.

i1266.photobucket.com/albums/jj530/baseballlover312/PCM2014-11-2419-34-24-84.jpg

Talansky finished 4th @2'42'', just behind a strategically genius Bauke Mollema, who sat in the wings all day.

i1266.photobucket.com/albums/jj530/baseballlover312/PCM2014-11-2419-34-48-10.jpg

I finished in the next big group, almost 4 minutes down. But sometimes its more satisfying to be a teammate.

i1266.photobucket.com/albums/jj530/baseballlover312/PCM2014-11-2419-35-10-56.jpg

Dennis tried his best, but finishing 24th, his main GC chances are over. He keeps green as a consolidation.

Talansky in 3rd is looking good. Just hope that he can hold off Mollema in 4th...

Yeah, Mollema could be a problem. But Talansky is still in great shape going into the final stage.

Dennis's drop is a shame, but there was nothing I could do. he just isn't a good enough climber and I didn't want to hurt Talansky's chances at all for a lost cause.

Criterium du Dauphine - Stage 8

i1266.photobucket.com/albums/jj530/baseballlover312/Dauphine8.jpg

The final stage is the king stage. Gigantic climbs throughout and an incredibly steep finish.

i1266.photobucket.com/albums/jj530/baseballlover312/PCM2014-12-1919-05-37-61.jpg

The breakaway got away on the first climb, and it included some big names, such as Peraud.

i1266.photobucket.com/albums/jj530/baseballlover312/PCM2014-12-1919-10-36-59.jpg

Meanwhile, the peloton shrunk through the stage as pace rose and domestiques dropped.

i1266.photobucket.com/albums/jj530/baseballlover312/PCM2014-12-1919-11-37-89.jpg

On the HC climb, Gadret attacked the break. only Nordhaug and Peraud followed.

i1266.photobucket.com/albums/jj530/baseballlover312/PCM2014-12-1919-13-25-19.jpg

As splits happened in the peloton, Purito wass left behind! He managds to get back up, but will that cost him some energy.

i1266.photobucket.com/albums/jj530/baseballlover312/PCM2014-12-1919-14-30-36.jpg

As the gradient winded up, guys were cracking every second. I still had Talansky positioned right next to Froome at the front.

i1266.photobucket.com/albums/jj530/baseballlover312/PCM2014-12-1919-15-01-49.jpg

Just like Lance did back in the day, Purito comes straight from off the back to attack away! Only Froome held his wheel!

i1266.photobucket.com/albums/jj530/baseballlover312/PCM2014-12-1919-15-46-09.jpg

Unfortunately for him, he couldn't sustain it, and Froomebot made him pay.

i1266.photobucket.com/albums/jj530/baseballlover312/PCM2014-12-1919-16-19-55.jpg

Meanwhile, the pack had broken up completely. I was hanging on for dear life to stay on until the descent, and I did.

i1266.photobucket.com/albums/jj530/baseballlover312/PCM2014-12-1919-17-34-46.jpg

Only Gadret was left ahead, and as they neared the final hill, Froome was closing in.

i1266.photobucket.com/albums/jj530/baseballlover312/PCM2014-12-1919-18-16-02.jpg

And a few meters in, Froome deals the kill blow to Gadret and Purito, winning the stage and securing the yellow jersey.

i1266.photobucket.com/albums/jj530/baseballlover312/PCM2014-12-1919-52-24-30.jpg

Purito finishes 2nd on the stage, and likewise the GC. Gadret holds onto 3rd, while Talansky tried to hold onto Mollema's wheel in the sprint.

i1266.photobucket.com/albums/jj530/baseballlover312/PCM2014-12-1919-53-01-18.jpg

And he just barely managed to do it to solidify his GC place!

i1266.photobucket.com/albums/jj530/baseballlover312/PCM2014-12-1919-53-21-07.jpg

I finished a while after in 8th on the stage, a finish I can be proud of knowing I helped Talansky!
