Good job from Reis in 5th so far, but the last 2 stages will probably be the most difficult ones for him. |

Bit unfortunate that Chiarello cracked late and still lost quite a lot but he still sits in a good top ten position and Wirtgen might still be within reach. But its not understandable why we didnt try to join the break and instead even had to try to recreate that Vuelta picture with the whole Evonik mountain train at the front of the peleton. Thats just moronic.

Great to see Conti taking a win there. And a good ride from Rodriguez in the pack as well. Let's see what the last two stages bring to us

Not really sure why we would be pacing in the peloton on a day like today. If it was a little tougher it would make sense for Guldhammer. If it was a little easier it might have made sense for AKA. But as is, it was the exact type of in betweener stage where would we would have been better off putting someone in the breakaway. AI clearly disagreed, and judging by the amount of Carlsberg riders chasing in that second group, we were all in on AKA. Fair enough, since we had little chance of doing anything else anyway.
Congrats to alex on another stage win!

Oh dear... So it definately didn't pay out to have the pre stage favorite here.
I wonder if we will actually try to send a rider into the break tomorrow. It would require a great effort to score 45 points from this race.

The group, now down to 75, reaches the 10k banner intact. Harrison and Hofstetter are now near the front of the group, although the latter has been working on the front, so not clear Evonik’s strategy
Why would a somewhat punchy sprinter not go for a reduced mass sprint? Why are we even pacing?! Thanks PCM!

Phinney seems to save himself for the last day, now we need a Stage win and getting green back.

Will be a low scoring race, as expected, but at least we tried something on the last two stages.
Hope we can get Lastra in the break in the final stage here.

Funny how the stage 6 "team rant" worked out.
From zero to hero in 2 stages.
First Zardini in the weird sprint plus Denz showing up on hte next stage with then a smart breakaway selection on the 8th resulting in the next KoM run which is needed in races with a decent climbing trio but no GC chances.
Ciccone really outperformed himself here! Well done.
Thanks for the reports and congrats to all successful. |

Oh my...
We didn't expect much, but we certainly didn't deliver either.
How a rider like Jang with 76MO and 76HI can finish outside the top 150 (among the top 20 worst riders) is beyond me. On paper he should be our GC leader, but he somehow always end up as if he has 56MO.
Ioannidis climbed to 48th, so we atleast find 5 points more than the minimum, but it was really crap.

Phinney delivered the GC win at the end, but both our team and Phinney himself showed major flaws on the climb. No Herklotz- or Lecuisinier-like performance, but still an important win for us. We need to be ahead in the next standings now to have a shot at winning the title, as Phinney must be almost done for the season.

This team never fails to amaze me. Just when I thought we were finally in for a truly meh wildcard race, Guldhammer delivers yet another PT stage win. That was really fun to watch for our team. Both Warbasse and Eg were aggressive early and very strong. When they were caught late on, you could tell they used their numbers well for a short while when the group was together, and who knows, maybe that was the difference in positioning and energy conservation. In any case, this clearly excuses any earlier underperformances from Guldhammer. In a wildcard race, where it's prestige we're righting for and not points, saving your energy for a massive stage win on the final day is the right move. Seeing Larry and Niklas in the top 20 just makes it even more sweet. Combine this with a couple of good sprints from AKA, and an awesome breakaway from Sulvaran, and I'd say this race was more than worth it.
Thank you for Ulrich for the tremendous reports, and congrats to Isostar on Phinney doing his job once again.

3 stage wins here is quite awesome. And Rodriguez getting a decent GC in that last stage is good as well. Too bad we missed both points and KoM jerseys as we could have been in contention for both.
Congrats bbl for another PT win and thanks for the reports!

Chiarello falls just outside of the top ten which was my prerace target for him but with the strong startlist this is still perfectly acceptable. Especially as Crncevic uses one of the rare Evonik breakaways this season to climb a lot in GC to a fantastic 14th place. That makes this race a success scoring wise eventhough i really would like a more active racing style by the team.

Back after taking some time off to recharge!
What a weird race for us.
Surprising points from Cavagna in the first sprint, a mediocre TTT followed.
Stüssi does amazing on the first mountain stage, but disappoints in the TT.
Conci climbs well, but got dropped in the TTT.
We make a successful break on stage 6, but send Sütterlin aka. literally the only rider in the lineup who wouldn't stay ahead of the favorites for stage points.
Cavagna was right up there before the sprint started on stage 7 and likely could've finished third, but just didn't sprint.
We send Kämna to a promising looking break on the final day, but he falters quickly and goes from 22nd to 47th in GC.
So there were plenty more points ready to be taken that we randomly didn't capitalize on.
BUT what a stage race from Colin Stüssi overall! Top 10 in such a field is as high as he could've possibly been.
Nicola Conci in 20th and second in the U25 adds great points as well, and continues to show he was a great loan target.
Congrats to Phinney as always! Predictable, deserved, but at least less boring than it could've been. I also loved to see the Wirtgen plan work rather well for Vesuvio, he'll surely only get even better.
Thanks Ulrich for great reports.

Everything that could go wrong did go wrong here, in large part due to me not realising that there was a TTT rather than two ITTs. In terms of points across the double header all went as expected thanks to Cort Nielsen overperforming in Suisse, but Yates imploding on the final stage was quite disappointing here.
Thanks for the reports Ulrich! |
