Damn, since Vanhoucke is racing Alunderis won't be a captain in this crucial race. Still, it'd be nice to do better than last season (20th).

Would actually hope Elias doesn’t get dropped in every single stage to at least fight for a respectable place in the GC. Pfft

The adventure begins

Following the first race of the season from distance wasn't easy. Not because I'd have loved to be there, but because of the time shift. But I still could watch some parts of TDU, between the work in the stable and my training rides. Wet and even snowy roads up here in Adelboden are a good preparation for technically difficult downhills - and maybe one day even cobbles. I even got the opportunity of riding the Adelboden ski world cup slope with a specially prepared bike - that was fun!

But now, I'm getting prepared for my first ever pro race. Of course, Mom asked me if I'm taking enough warm underwear - I guess she doesn't really get that it's summer across the pond, in Colombia! Three flat and three uphill stages are awaiting us there - and while I guess I won't be able to keep up with the best, I'll at least have the freedom to try something, given our lack of a top-class leader in this race. Really looking forward to starting my pro career!

Missed a trick not sending Stanley, 3 flat stages with a rather weak sprint startlist.

Not going great so far for Alunderis. Beaten by his team mate Cras! I don't expect any better from stage 5, have to place all hopes on the final stage.

Nice job by Clark, bonus seconds for 5th in the GC for a day.

So that’s a decent finish, 17th. Hope Elias can improve the placement or at least keep himself inside the top-20. Smile

The Road to Glory is long and painful. I didn't expect it to be otherwise. Smile

Excellent to get into the breakaway!

Given the mountains in the last stages...GC wasn't really on my mind.

Still...doing well in this race. Smile

Congratulations Jhon and Elias, good results for both of them!

Lotto Soudal is very happy with the performance of Harm Vanhoucke (5th) but rather disappointed with the first race of their new signing Virginijus Alunderis (25th).

Alunderis won't be racing again until June, other RTG riders will have to shine in the meantime.

It's nice to see my teammate do quite well, but a shame Campeon has not gone in the attack yet to show his new jersey to friends and family at home. Please go in a break, Jesus Pfft

Finally some great racing from Elias. Grin Gutted that he lost the final top-10 in the standings but it has to be step-by-step, I imagine, before ambitioning better results. Still, a solid performance. Smile

A long way to go

It's finally over... Those mountains weren't particularly tough - not worse that the ones I already knew - but that pace in the pro peloton is just... horrible!
I was hoping to at least try something, get into a breakaway, or keep up with the top guys a little longer, but no. My form surely isn't at the maximum level yet - I hope to build it up for the U25 races later on - but I was still disappointed to realize that the road ahead of me is THAT long.

Back to training for the moment - at least the motivation is high to do a bit better next time!
