That was underwhelming all around. Herklotz stops sprinting and throws away the stage win and overall lead as well as white, Demare can't win the bunch sprint, Bongiorno gets dropped, Nerz gets dropped even harder. Nothing positive from that stage.
Except for Yates doing his usual thing, I really struggle to see any negatives for your team really... Herklotz could have easily been a group back, looking at the names. 2nd in U25 and Team GC at this point really isn't that bad.
Moser and Aker, on the other hand!!! They usually fight back, though :-)

Obviously I adjust expectations mid-stage, and with Herklotz in second wheel with 1k to go and Demare at the front of the second group, 4th and 10th don't really cut it.

Sorry but I had to make a couple of changes to the report I posted at first. The errors have been removed now.

Haas best performance in our colors though!
Yates though.. Gesink should be prepared for some sick stuff in the hills.

2nd. Good result. Too bad Vesely wasted his energy on these intermediate sprints though. Won't be possible to beat riders like Gesink in that competition with so many hilly/mountain stages coming up.

Well THAT made up for stage 2!
Our sprint train isn't the fastest, but certainly the toughest with 75-77-79 hill, so in the end Demare got delivered where he needed to be. Bonus points for Herklotz both figuratively and literally.
Very motivating for the next stages. Tomorrow's hilltop finish might be the most decisive stage of the race if ridden hard, so I hope we're attentive and strong.

Good to see we at least attempt the breakaway now that GC ambitions are gone. Hopefully we'll continue like that when we hit the hills again
Feillu sprinting is also a bonus, eventhough no result can be expected. Good to see Demare build on his great Tour, adding a win here as well. Congratulations, cio! |

lmao at Bertilsson. This is the exact type of stage he's on the team for. Can't even get top 50.

Maybe he regrets turning down his contract offer after last season and making some bad result based in missing his former team...

Well, at least it adds to my theory that a max'd Simon Yates will be very useful and a trained one will be rather good indeed
And Ewan gets that lvl4 XP

Awesome, detailed reports. Really enjoying them. Just a quick thing though - it's Lundberg, not Lundgren.
Well, Lundberg being in the break is nice and all, but he was really bad once he got there. CAS must have crashed to miss the time limit. That's not much fun for future break opportunities.

Dyball crashes glad he didn't suffer too much though.
Another day in the KoM lead is good. Smith however does not look like he could potentially compete in a breakaway anymore though

Good stuff by Teuns to ride aggressive! Also a decent performance from Beltran, eventhough he had to be up together with Herklotz if his GC ambitions should have been saved after that first hilly stage. But at least he went on the attack and seemed attentive this time, and climbing the GC as a result of that is always good. The gaps to a top 10 aren't huge, so that must be our new goal.
Also an incredible stage, really, by Herklotz, pushing Gesink to the limit. Congratulations to both, as Gesink is back in command in this race, and Herklotz suddenly has no rivals for that second place overall.
And thank you for the reports so far, and the consistent pace they're coming with, AbhishekLFC! |

Haga in the break for KoM, Pantano with a decent ride, not a bad day.

78 and 75 hill, and they can't even get inside the top 100. Awful, awful race for us so far.

Another top 10 from Moazemi and him moving up to 8th in GC is great. Also Rodrigues had a decent stage moving him into the top30. If the mountain stage produces many gaps he can still move up a little.
Unfortunate that Boonratanathanakorn was involved in the crash but it looks like he is fine again. Maybe he can join some breaks in this race still. |
