Willunga Hill Classic
i.imgur.com/RBrkXuM.jpg

Welcome to McLaren Vale for the inaugural Willunga Hill Classic, a flat circuit for the most part, culminating in two ascents of Old Willunga Hill. Today's favorites are Dan Martin, Julian Alaphilippe and the home favorite, Simon Gerrans!

i.imgur.com/9M8haBU.jpg

Here are today's confirmed starters.

The Race

i.imgur.com/fPjsR7g.jpg

It takes a while for the break to form, however when it does it is Waeytens, Hofland, and two from the favorite's teams, easing their workload, former World Champ Boonen and rising star Cort.

i.imgur.com/SePEcxW.jpg

With 100km it's an amalgamation of teams sharing pace-making duties in the pack, namely Lotto-Soudal, Cannondale and Sky. The break has a solid 3'37.

i.imgur.com/6Ra9c0n.jpg

First time up the hill and we have some action in the break, Waeytens wants to go for as long as he can - only hofland can respond as the peloton come within 1'30!

i.imgur.com/1RwukMi.jpg

Zico "the Emo" Waeytens tries to escape civilization once more on the descent - and distances Hofland!

i.imgur.com/uvtS71x.jpg

It's the endgame for Boonen and Cort as a marauding Cannondale train passes them, full steam ahead to make up the minute's gap to Waeytens, and 15 seconds back, Hofland - and there's only 8kn to go!

i.imgur.com/svDMGxS.jpg

Waeytens hits the final 4km climb with 38 seconds to Hofland and another 40 to the peloton - is big enough?

i.imgur.com/xzfsp4z.jpg

The favorites stop pussyfooting around - Alaphilippe goes, Martin and Gerrans hot on his wheel as they catch Hofland. But there's 50 seconds to make up on lone leader Waeytens - and only 3km to do it in!

i.imgur.com/LAmMYOU.jpg

Nibali knows how dangerous these three are and usues the slipstream of Hofland to attack!
Vuillermoz
Vicioso,
Alaphilippe's teammate Cavendish,
Gesink annd
Waeytens' team leader Geschke try to follow.

i.imgur.com/clEp7BZ.jpg

Poor guy - just 2km to go and Waeytens is caught by another Alaphilippe surge. the situation:

Waeytens

Vuillermoz
Martin
Gerrans

i.imgur.com/28UpVp4.jpg

Gerrans bonks! Just 1.5km to go and Alaphilippe's persistence pays off - but since he's been at the front 2km it should play right into the hands of Dan Martin! Anyway, you can hear the sighs of the home crowd!

i.imgur.com/M0ivIvV.jpg

500m to go and it's a race of dying men as the two leaders launch their sprints around the final corner - on paper Alaphilippe is superior here but he's been attacking for 2km! Meanwhile Waeytens is dropped again, can he beat the pack on his own?

i.imgur.com/4T8Yhar.jpg

It's too close to celebrate - but not too close to call! The clear strongest man today Alaphilippe takes a well-earned victory here in South Australia! Martin is, of course, 2nd, while Gerrans hangs tough for 3rd.

i.imgur.com/yurhoxH.jpg

Too little too late for these two - Nibali in 4th, Vuillermoz is 5th. There was no catching the three clear favorites today.

i.imgur.com/2fMb3ky.jpg

The crowd cheer him on - Waeytens takes an amazing 6th place ahead of the pack sprint - where Gesink leads in Caruso, Kelderman, and finally Geschke respectively to give you your top 10. That's all from me, so shall I say what a stunning performance from Alaphilippe once more, and commend Waeytens for a gutsy solo performance.

Anybody who is having a bit of time at the moment is welcome to PM me when interested in writing reports. Reporters are always needed and right now we could need 1-2 more.

You need PCM16 to report right ?

PCM15

Question: will next season be reported on PCM15 as well or will we move to a newer game?

It`s PCM15 or 16.

PCM15 would be easier as then stage files would exist and PCM15 is cheaper or available more often.

PCM16 would need lots of further testing and potentially several new stage files.

Alright, thanks for answering Wink

Is a question as potential reporter on a specific version?

I'm considering it at the moment. That's why I asked on which version next season would be as my most recent copy is PCM11 and I'm thinking about going for a newer version.

PCM15 is the most likely tbh due to stage file reasons.

Avin Wargunnson
And other thousands of reasons, you would be mad to use PCM16 for man-game, that would be the probably nail in the coffin for the whole game. Wink
I'll be back

That is just clearly wrong. Maybe just try to play some "objective" PCM16 with a "control team", and you see that there is a pretty equal amount of worse race scenarios than in PCM16 as there is in PCM15...

The problem would be with how stat ratings control different things in PCM16. The biggest would be the complete failure of puncheurs to win against climbers on hilly stages something the DB team had to find ways to work around. Would have to find ways to adjust stats significantly without being unfair which isn't going to happen.

Tests with MG Stats though proved surprisingly fine. So this would actually work.

Wow, great report mate (y)Grin Only very minor thing I'd say is make the results table 100%. Asides from that I love it, well done!
24/02/21 - kandesbunzler said “I don't drink famous people."
15/08/22 - SotD said "Your [jandal's] humour is overrated"
11/06/24 - knockout said "Winning is fine I guess. Truth be told this felt completely unimportant."
