No Galibier on the Alpe d'Huez stage.
Spoiler Google translate: "The CG of the Isère confirms that the Galibier will not be on the agenda of the stage of Alpe d'Huez"
There have been some works on a tunnel on the descent of the Lautaret which were going to finish before the Tour but now it looks like they're running over. Probably just going to replace it with the Croix de Fer, creating a very similar profile, meaning we would have Croix de Fer/Glandon on three consecutive stages

Madeleine and Croix de Fer combo from Modane would necessitate a 250km stage via Iseran The only way to get round that would be doing the Col de Chaussy about 2/3rds up the Madeleine and then returning back to the valley but then that would end up as a carbon copy of the previous stage with only the finishing climb being different.

They should go other way from Modane over Iseran, Madeleine, Glandon to alpe d'huez so we'd have a proper mountain stage of over 5 hours.
Those 130 km mountain stages are for pussies

Agreed, would be godlike. Actually glad the Galibier is stripped if they find a somewhat decent solution, 2 stages under 130 is too much for my likening |

Oh ok, that would be probably a little too much then. Any suggenstions?

Just replacing Galibier with Croix de Fer/Glandon is the only I can think of that ASO would realistically do; they could include some smaller climbs in the Maurienne valley but they probably wouldn't influence the race much and the only other possible option if they didn't do Croix de Fer/Glandon was to go all the way around via Grenoble which would just be a boring ______/ stage.

No, this was clearly planned, so that ASO could go ahead with the stage, where they will climb Alpe d'Huez three times. What could be better. So new and original...
On the serious note though, I was really looking forward to Galibier. It has been 4 years since the last time, and even though the original stage was too short for my liking, I enjoyed it in 2011. Now they will just do the old boring Croix the Fer so they will climb one climb from three different directions on three consecutive days. That is just silly. |

Cant they just start in the bottom of Galibier (after the downhill on that stage) and go Madeleine, Glandon and Alpe? That would be perfect and not too long for their liking |

The problem is that Modane probably has a deal, that they will have a stage start. But they should really promise them, that they will get sth. next year and just start in Albertville (Madeleine - Glandon - Alpe), or Briancon (Galibier - Croix de Fer - Alpe). |

No, he is stopped doping.
Contadope with Fuentes and Clenbuterol (2007-2010) = Win.
Contador without Fuentes and Clenbuterol (2011-20xx)= Max 4-5.

@Arberg
You can say what you want, but Conta won his last 2 GTs and proved in stage-races, especially last year, that he's still one of the best climbers, maybe even the best, in the peloton
That said I can't see him winning either, simply because Giro-Tour double is nearly impossible nowadays.

You can not collection TDF with all other races. TDF requires something completely different! |
