Sooooo...Avenir rules change. All U23 riders can participate from now on, that includes WT teams...not sure about this move.
Anyway, Colombia already nominated their team, it includes Angel Lopez, Sebastian Henao and Dayer Quintana. Well this will be a murder
Gotta feel sorry for likes of Power who would be challenging for honours, and now has to compete against rider with 2 GTs already under his belt.
Appeals more to casuals fan. I like a lot since i dont know any of those U23 riders on smaller teams, looking forward to waching the youngsters on the WT teams. |

Very stupid move. Not sure why it was made because we get no explanation.

For Avenir its the year date that matters I think, he's eligible though since it appears their team is finalized bar injuries.
The whole team is: Lopez, Henao, D. Quintana, Contreras, Ramirez and Gaviria.

Exactly the issue. Avenir isn't covered entirely live anyway so who needs to appeal to the usual cycling audience.
Avenir is the GT for the riders that can't ride a GT yet.

Who knows if they plan to do it in the following years. Name recognisation is alfa omega for me (as many others I suppose) to follow races and this one Ill definetely follow much more now |

Well I followed it so closely exactly because I didn't know the riders that much (well to be fair, I still know them a lot better than most others do because I follow the U23 circuit).
There's nothing quite like knowing a future star before everyone else.
But everyone to their own, we'll see how that affects the racing.

I'm with Cio here, I don't like the decision either...
It was great to follow and nice to see the new generation(not known to the wide public) battling it out.
Plus obviously WT schedules will now influence the lineup a lot, while in the U23 circuit, this would be the race to ''peak for'' for a lot of riders.

Stupid rule change.
Hehe, reading comments here one could think following Avenir is the hipster thing in cycling.

Must be said with Avenir that the current U23 Nat. Team set-up has only been in place since 2007 and has only been an U25-only race since 1992. I am much more a fan of this set-up and don't think it shoud be changed but it's not like they're messing up a decades old set of rules. Avenir has undergone more eligibility changes than almost any other race so this is just a continuation of that pattern. But yeah keep it as it was last year with only riders from the U23 circuit allowed

I dont imply its a hipster-thang, just that not many follow it closely (apart from cycling fanatics on a site such at this) which this change might change due to bigger names participating |

Real fans watch Le Triptyque des Monts et Châteaux
This Avenir rule change is just ridiculous. It provides a shop window for talents who are either really good at a young age (say 18/19) to show that they can compete with slightly older guys. It is also for guys who have perhaps flown under the radar in the development or are from non-traditional countries who can come and show off over a week.

Well finally a real record. The thing was a joke since the rule changes and what not and the guys holding it basically ruined all prestige it had.
Finally the record means something again.
Will be interesting to see who is the one to challenge this speed. |

I think Alex Dowsett will challenge it, the way he rode it last time makes me think he had something left in the tank and he also now has a benchmark of doing it once to work from. Something to remember with Dowsett's hour is that he did it on the Manchester track which is starting to get old as far as modern velodromes go, it didn't have the same type of climate control like a track like London has, all of that does make a difference.

I've never payed much attention to anything related to track cycling (possible since track cycling is non-existent in Norway), so can anybody explain this to me; I had a feeling the hour record was this "mythological" record broken once in a blue moon, but now it seems to be broken every month by riders who arn't exactly in the top tier.
Has the rules been altered lately making it much easier to set a new record?

They basically split it into two: The Hour Record and the Best Human Effort. Best Human Effort stands at 56.375km set by Boardman in 1996 using a "superman" position monocoque uber-bike. This is the furthest distance anyone has cycled in an hour.
The Hour Record was changed. Before you had to use what was basically a road bike and that record is held by Sosenka at 49.700km. Now you can use the same bike as you would for a team or individual pursiut, so a normal aero track bike. This change in bike makes it much easier than on a road bike hence why it was broken so often recently.
But until Wiggins it had primarily be tried by not really big names. Voigt is old, Brandle and Dennis arn't exactly big names. Dowsett isn't huge either. Wiggins is the first superstar name to set a distance under the revised rules. But now it will probably stick with Wiggins for an extended period of time.

I still think they should have kept the 'do it like Merckx' rule.
