Looks like a merger with Nippo-De Rosa for Vini. None of their old riders in though, it seems?
(not exactly an official source)

They're merging with Vini's continental team, IIRC.
Which is D'Angelo&Antenucci U23. The name at least suggests Nippo doesn't continue then? They can't sponsor two teams.

the article on cycling weekly has changed since i posted, it now says they might have a chance of surviving but need a new sponsor. i would have thought that alot of British businesses would pay good money to be associated with Nigel Mansell.
i hope they find a sponsor, they've had a brilliant season on the British domestic circuit but if not many of their riders will be in demand, i wouldn't be surprised if, regardless of if they survive or not, a few of their riders go to the new NFTO team. |

Lets hope that a new sponsor turns up pretty quickly then |

Speaking of Horner, it's worth noticing that just 18 teams applied for WT license. Thus, no one are desperate for rider points |

@crue: I am surprised no other teams have applied for WT status, like Cofidis etc. It is nicely working out for Europcar, and fantastic to see a team that was nearly sponsorless in July climbing up to WT. Will be good to see them in race they don't normally enter

Submission for WT had to be received by 1st October... If you count the number of team who have a licence and applied for a licence in 2014, you get 18, so they are all guaranteed WT status

Bernaudeau wants to bring in three more riders as part of his WT application, giving him about 25. That is quite small for a modern WT team so it will be interesting to see how they go. If there are a couple of injuries we could start seeing fatigue playing a part.

The number of disbanding teams and free riders will help with that nicely...

Well that is a shocker! I'm sure that cyclingnews has written this article every year since Schleck came to the fore, and just changed the year and his team! Doesn't Schleck target these every season?

So who might be exactly? Does Hivert already have a team? I can't remember. |

Holy .... That guy might just have the best quote ever.
"Lance had forgotten the one lesson and that if God takes your testicle for doping, then you are not God." - Matt DeCanio
I don't know much about him, how credible he is etc, but hell. That is one hell of line. |

That does of course assume the cancer was caused by substance abuse, and not bad luck or nature

Cofidis would defenetely not be interested. Not a strong enough roster and they are mainly concerned about races in France and Spain.

I just noticed this. The main issue is that to run a WT team you need a much higher budget and the company may not be willing to front up that extra cash. It also locks you in to racing places that could be completely irrelevant to your sponsor (Cofidis as a company may have no financial interest in China, for example, making the Tour of Beijing pointless for them). Finally, it means that Cofidis can't race the .2 French races and, if I am not very much mistaken, it makes them ineligible to win the French Cup. Of course I could be wrong on that final point and Aquarius or someone else may be able to correct me.

Why they have applied for WT? They get all the wildcards they need anyway..
They'll send crap teams to Giro, Vuelta, Pais Vasco,Tirreno...
They are not strong enough for WT. Their best cobble riders are gone. Voeckler is getting old and Rolland is way overrated. Coquard is good but too young.. |

DeCanio's been along for years. He was reasonably talented but chose not to dope at one point.
As with most guys who refuse to go along with the peer pressure of doping, he's not a person who's good at getting along with others - 'not a nice guy' as the general public would say.
He loves to toot his own horn and talk about his accomplishments, but over the years he's talked a lot about doping in the American scene and it always turns out to be true
I had forgotten all about him and that website, but reading the interview it all comes back to me. Fun to think back to all his "non-sense" now... |

So Contador is taking a pay cut of somewhere between 10-15% in order to help save Saxo-Tinkoff, which is a great thing to hear. But I am posting this more because we so rarely get a look at how much cyclists are paid, and it is interesting to then compare it to other sports:
https://www.cyclin...-bank-team
Contador is said to earn about 25 million Kroner annually, or roughly 3.3 million Euro. A 15 per cent cut would bring him down to 21.25 million Kroner or 2.8 million. However he apparently also has an agreement with bike producer Specialized which brings him 15 million Kroner (2 million Euro) annually.
I mean, how can people not realise how huge the potential return on investment from a cycling team is? You can get a rider like Contador, who has a huge media presence and a decorated palmares for only 3.3 million Euro! There are surely not that many sportspeople in any sport who have as much name recognition as him, particularly worldwide, and only cost that much! Even if he wins nothing else for the rest of his life, he will provide more than that as a return on his own.
Also as inrng pointed out the other day, the wage budget of Manchester United could probably cover the wages of every single rider in the WorldTour.
