Aside from the unpredictable show, and the weather. I like to watch the spectacle crashes, and who are those tough guys who still rides after being bruised and torn apart from that crash.
Also I like to see them suffer in the mountains, watching that they're digging dip and giving their all efforts.
Lastly, faces like Thomas Voeckler, etc. during a mountainous stage.

This is an excellent idea for a thread.
Having only "got into" cycling following Sir Bradley last year in the T de F (like the rest of Britain) I am totally hooked.
I am not a cyclist,I used to cycle to work for a while years ago ,but now I am an "armchair cyclist"
In my 50`s i`ve watched a lot of sport over the years and you change with age how you see things.Very little nowadays makes me say "WOW" out load if I`m on my own unlike a few years ago.
Watching Messi do something incredible, watching Darcy Ward (Speedway ) miss the gate and fight his way to the front and now seeing Cavendish sprint.
It brings tears to my eyes, the incredible speed, the daring, the never give up and the praise for his team mates and his comments regarding hymself and the history of cycling.
It really puts some of the overpaid primadonas who kick a ball around twice a week (Baratelli,Suarez,Barton,Rooney) to shame.
I also love the scenery (Corsica looked incredibly beautiful),the noise of the helicopter and the ITV4 theme
Anyone who has broken anything knows how much it hurts, and for Thomas and Martin to continue through the pain day after day because it means so much to them is truelly inspiring.
With the GF hooked also, cycling for us is the new "rock & roll" and we`ve booked our B&B already for next years race in Yorkshire.
In these celebrity obsessed times, it`s so good to see and feel reward for hard work counts and cycling for me ,really shows that.
I love this sport.
sorry it`s a bit long ,got carried away. |

Personally, I honestly don't know why I enjoy cycling so much. I guess the unpredictability and uniqueness of the races that has been mentioned by others could be a reason.
Guys you have no love for the announcers!? They are great! They know cycling

The breeze on my face when I do it. The fact I created that breeze with my own effort.
As for watching the sport, the sacrifice that lots of talented people make with the all for one mentality. The fact that no one person can be good at everything but that every type of rider can win on his/her day.

This Schleck sandwich is going to cause some serious Evans indigestion! He peeks through his elbow and hits the ground speed! His treasure chest is unleashed on the pack!
Any of the above for attacking phrases.

They're pretty much the worst announcers still around, because they constantly talk about the same 5 points for the whole of a stage, and they only know the Top 10 or so riders names. After that, they get the names wrong, and they also dont really have a good grasp of who the favourites are at all. They said Kloden is one of those riders they think can win the Tour de France f.e. He's alright, may even Top 10 if he's really lucky, but he's not winning it
All that said, they cant be any worse than the current english commentators, who just say "attack" or "we've reached the halfway point in the stage".

Yeah you are right, but I think they bring the entertainment factor into play.

Sherwen said Hincapie was the top favourite for the 2006 TdF. 'Nuff said.

I guess Phil and Paul are just commenting on their own into who's the favorite, not as a general point from the public.
Well perhaps they made mistake like on Stage 2, they thought Irizar has won. Which is quite normal considering their age.

Another thing I enjoy while watching cycling (or cycling in group myself) is the buzzing of the wheels on the tarmac. |

Ian B reminds me - the distinctive sound of a top quality road bike braking to a halt in front of you. |

They only said Irizar was in the move, they corrected themselves to Bakelants with about 4km to go, when it popped up on the timing screens.
Worst one was yesterday when Cav fell.
Sherwin: "And that's a Belkin rider, it's Vanmarcke with Cavendish" (correct)
Liggett: "Yes the young man Danny Van Poppel there with Cavendish" (dafuq!)
Sherwin: "I hope both Cavendish and Van Poppel can get back ok through the cars" (seriously?!)

I remembered another one after watching Greipel's win. I find a perfectly executed sprint train to be one of the most amazing sights in this sport. It is one of the best reminders that this truly is a team sport. While chaotic sprints are arguably more interesting (or something like McEwen at Canterbury, which is far more amazing), it just doesn't present the technical prowess of a well-drilled team setting up to make the relative gamble of a sprint into a near-certainty.

I really hope it's Tejay, such a cool guy. Hopefully Evans has taught him well.
Maybe, but all my PCM saves say that Dombrowski is the one.
is Sky doping in that too?
for me, it's the sheer admiration (for an unfit guy like me) of people that can last for up to 7 hours in a saddle and biking 300km (in the case of MSR) or riding 200km daily for 3 weeks
on my Bontrager saves?
