Currently the entire team is making a trip through Russia, with the idea to form a real team.
Some riders wrote a small piece about this camp.
Roman Maksimov: It's great that I can visit Russia again. I almost forgot how stupid people are here, and I mean car and truckdrivers now.
I also have seen a lot of places I never heard about before, like on the canoeing trip we saw this:
This rock is named the Maksimovski rock, quite funny...
Ricardo Mestre: What a weird country this is, people can't drive and cycling here, HELL NO!
David Chokheli: This is the first time I visit Russia, well even the first time I left Georgia. This team is great and the atmosphere is just brilliant. This country is stunning aswell, beautiful nature and Moscow is very, very crowded.
Anatoliy Sosnitskiy: Yay, my first holiday without parents! Got a manager watching me tho, so no alcohol...

haha, not much love for the russian drivers? Come to australia, the drivers are generally good but just hate cyclists so they cut you off all the time!

With the start of the 2013 season getting pretty close now we, Team PrivatBank thought it was time to reveal our squad for the only race in January we'll ride. The Tour d'Algerie will be our debut in the world of cycling and we can say all riders look strong, and well recovered from last season.
| Ricardo Mestre | Leader | | Oleksandr Polivoda | Main Sprinter | | Vitaliy Buts | Lead-Out | | Marco Alexandre Ferreira Cunha | Free Element | | Daniel Hoelgaard | Domestique | | Anatoliy Sosnitskiy | Domestique | | Volodymyr Dzhus | Domestique |
Goals, Expectations and Hopes
This is a race which is important to us. Privatbank wants to become the largest bank in the world and is looking to get busy on both the African and Asian markets. Therefore we'd love to win the GC, although we already know Arroyo will also join this race, which would make it pretty much impossible for Ricardo.
That's exactly why we lowered our expectations to a top 5 GC for Ricardo.
With a sprinter like Polivoda joining this race we hope to get atleast 1 stage win, with his capability to conquer the hills he should be able to outsprint some of his rivals.

We only had one race this month, Le Tour d’Algerie, a five day race with four flat stages and one stage finishing on a mountain. Those flat stages all contained some difficulty, which could hurt some sprinters.
Stage 1 – We had our loanee Hoelgaard, from AKER – MOT in the day’s break, resulting in some bonus seconds and points for the mountain jersey, at the he collected enough bonus seconds to go onto the podium and pick up his youth jersey.
At the end of the stage Buts dropped of Polivoda who searched a good position to start the sprint. At first he was behind quite a bit, but thanks to an enourmous effort he overtook everyone and won the stage!
Stage 2 – A very similar stage where we lead the pack throughout the stage to protect Polivoda. Doing so Hoelgaard gained more points for the mountain classification, enough to take the lead.
The stage again ended in a sprint, with Polivoda trying to position well, but that costed too much energy. Soupe (Alstom) took the stage, Polivoda finished in third, keeping both yellow and green.
Stage 3 – Hamza (Jaguar) was one of the escapees this stage. He took some points in the mountains and overtook Daniel for the KoM jersey.
Meanwhile the entire team was protecting the race leader and chasing the break. Succesfully, the stage again ended in a mass sprint. Polivoda couln’t position him well enough, forcing him to go early through the wind, Anton Martin (Iberia) won, Polivoda with an amazing accelaration finished second, still keeping both jerseys.
Stage 4 – Nothing out of the ordinary, really. Small break again totally under control, so another mass sprint. Both Polivoda and Buts tried to grab this one, but didn’t reach the podium spots, ending fourth and fifth. Soupe took his second stage, Polivoda keeps both jerseys.
Stage 5 – The mountain stage, but we completely failed. Mestre wasted his energy on the flat, he self said: ‘I didn’t think that mountain was that hard, I chased the break hoping Poli could hang on…’ We can’t really blame him for that, but it wasn’t smart. At the end he lost almost five minutes to surprising stage winner Rodas (MTN). Polivoda lost his yellow jersey to Moreno (Iberia).
At the end we won one stage, the green jersey, had a few podiumplaces and Hoelgaard ended second in the KoM standings. A very good team effort!

Mestre is the first victim of Cya-logic. I'm quite sure the same will happen to me this season. Still not a bad race. Polivoda showed here he is a good sprinter in a, for CT level, not bad sprinter's field. Should mean he could keep that up during the season.

| Cesar Andre Fonte | Leader | | Filipe Cardoso | Main Sprinter | | Arturs Ansons | Co-Leader/Lead-out | | David Chokheli | Domestique | | Daniel Hoelgaard | Domestique | | Anatoliy Sosnitskiy | Domestique | | Nicolae Tanovitchii | Domestique |
Goals, Expectations and Hopes
This is a race with quite some flat stages where Cardoso might do well, with some help from Ansons. Our goal is to get atleast 2 podium finishes. Also Fonte should be able to do well on the two hilly stages.
We expect a top 10 in the GC one way or another. Ansons could achieve this by attacking on the cobbles, Cardoso could get enough bonus to lose some in the hills and hang on on the cobbles and Fonte could also hang on, enough chances.
In our dreams we would win atleast a stage and get a top 5 GC, however this might prove to be too hard for the team we bring here
| Eduard Vorganov | Leader | | Cesar Andre Fonte | Lieutenant | | Filipe Cardoso | Free Element | | Marco Alexandre Ferreira Cunha | Domestique | | David Chokheli | Domestique | | Vitaliy Buts | Domestique | | Volodymyr Dzhus | Domestique |
Goals, Expectations and Hopes
This should be a strong line up here, and that’s why we set ourselves a goal to finish in the top 5, and the top 10. Vorganov and Fonte both should able to finish up high, and Cardoso is a wildcard, as he might survive those hills and win the sprint.
We expect to atleast get two riders within the top 10, whcih should be very possible.
We hope Vorganov can start well here at his new team, in his special jersey. We’d be over the moon if he’d win this!
| Ricardo Mestre | Leader | | Mykhaylo Kononenko | Liuetenant | | Oleksandr Polivoda | Main Sprinter | | Bruno Lima | Lead-out | | Volodymyr Gomenyuk | Lead-out | | Daniel Hoelgaard | Domestique | | Volodymyr Dzhus | Domestique |
Goals, Expectations and Hopes
The Tour of the Middle East is one of our official goals, so we sent a full force squad to get the stage win we need. With the train Gomenyuk-Lima-Polivoda this should be possible, and if not we always have Mestre who will get maximum support from Kononenko.
We expect to get atleast one stage here, a dozen of chances should be more than enough. Despite the long Time Trial we still expect Mestre to finish in the top 10 of the GC, and that also is expected from Kononenko.
We hope to win this stage race, and we’ve already heard there wasn’t that big of an intrest, so who knows that might succeed.

| Cesar Andre Fonte | Leader | | Filipe Cardoso | Sprinter | | Vitaliy Buts | Lead-Out | | Marco Alexandre Ferreira Cunha | Domestique | | Volodymyr Dzhus | Domestique | | Anatoliy Sosnitskiy | Domestique | | Daniel Hoelgaard | Domestique |
Goals, Expectations and Hopes
As this is a C1 race we can’t expect too much really. Fonte is an excellent puncheur at our level of racing but will have some fierce competion here, although we hope he’ll be motivated by riding in his own country and perhaps sneak into the top 10 of the GC.
We also brought Cardoso here, he should be able to score a few points here but that’s it really.
Our biggest hope perhaps is Cunha, who could win a stage from a late attack, or an early break.
| Filipe Cardoso | Leader | | Volodymyr Gomenyuk | Lead-Out | | Arturs Ansons | Lead-Out | | Marios Athanasiades | Domestique | | David Chokheli | Domestique | | Volodymyr Dzhus | Domestique | | Nicolae Tanovitchii | Domestique |
Goals, Expectations and Hopes
This is a race to our likings, flat. It has an uphill finish tho, which suits Filipe really well. We expect him to get atleast a podium finish, which should be possible when Ansons and Gomenyuk deliver him in a good position.
If this plan fails, however we a nowhere, hopelessly losing. Chokheli could prove to be an important domestique to get our sprinters over the hills.
| Eduard Vorganov | Leader | | Arturs Ansons | Co-Leader | | Marco Alexandre Ferreira Cunha | Domestique | | David Chokheli | Domestique | | Vitaliy Buts | Domestique | | Volodymyr Dzhus | Domestique | | Nicolae Tanovitchii | Domestique |
Goals, Expectations and Hopes
Planning failure… We expected a cobbler to join our team so we subscribed fort his race. Now we are left with Ansons and Vorganov to lead the team here. With some luck Vorganov can make it to the finish as most cobbles are early in the race, and because there are a few hills near the line we still hope we can get a top 10 here.
But anyways, we shouldn’t have entered this race…
| Cesar Andre Fonte | Leader | | Oleksandr Polivoda | Sprinter | | Filipe Cardoso | Lead-Out | | Volodymyr Gomenyuk | Lead-Out | | Anatoliy Sosnitskiy | Domestique | | Daniel Hoelgaard | Domestique | | Nicolae Tanovitchii | Domestique |
Goals, Expectations and Hopes
A race of C1 level again. 5 days of sprinting, climbing and time trialing. We hope Polivoda has a strong train here and bring us a few top 5 sprints. Fonte might be capable of getting a top 10 GC here, but just like in the Algarve he will have some fierce competition.
Perhaps a small tactical fail to not bring our Russian duo here, Maksimov could’ve challenged for stage 1, and Vorganov could also get a top 10 GC.
| Mykhaylo Kononenko | | Vitaliy Buts | | Marios Athanasiades |
Goals, Expectations and Hopes
A time trial, perhaps Marios his best chance to score us a few points, but we do not expect him to challenge the best. We hope either Marios or Mykhaylo can get us a top 10 and some decent points. We hoped to sign Lagkuti, but we decided to stay friends with Metinvest, which prove tob e succesful for both teams, as we both scored some cheap, talented riders.
February review will come once the Tour of the Middle East is finished.
